I’ve read that in the last few days Starmer is concerned about the Muslim people not voting labour cuz of his position

https://amp.theguardian.com/politics/2024/jan/30/labour-acts-on-fears-muslims-will-not-vote-for-party-over-gaza-stance

do you think this will have an impact on this years general elections ? I guess whatever they do they’ll lose votes

Too little, too late. He can be PM without my vote.

BelleHathor · 07/06/2024 10:17

Yes, no vote from me, Keith can fuck right off to the far side of the fence that he sits on.

The racism that has been unleashed by his little control freaks on their targets is ugly. His new friends can vote for him.

AdamRyan · 07/06/2024 10:20

Are you not worried about the Conservatives getting in? There's been some very worrying anti-Islam sentiment from some of them e.g. Gove, Braverman

Hopefully no.

We're on a messed up trajectory, the racism that has been unleashed is unimaginable, I have seen open posts on social media about preventing race mixing, sending us all back etc.

I can't vote for Labour, at first it was about Gaza but the shit they put Diane Abbott through was too much for me and a lot of people of colour.

We're the one who grew up with the SUS laws, deaths in Police custody, institutional racism etc and the she was a pioneer in getting many of the equality laws passed, she was owed a minimum of respect. As was Faiza Shaheen who was deselected.

So I'm philosophical about it, whoever wins we all lose.

The Conservatives, Labour and Reform are all Islamophobic. I can't vote for any of them. If I lived in a constituency where there was a small margin between candidates, I might hold my nose and have to reconsider a tactical vote, but fortunately I live in a constituency where I can vote for a viable alternative who's likely to win by a large margin.

EasterIssland · 07/06/2024 11:20

Also, you shouldn’t vote out of fear but what you feel aligns more with your values. I’m from Spain normally it’s tories vs labour but in the last few years there have been other parties who are obtaining more and more votes and they are the ones that can change things (unfortunately for me some of these popular parties are far right) what I mean is that you just need x amount of people to change their mind and think I won’t vote labour or tories and vote someone else for the things to change. They might not win but those winning might need a coalition in order to govern and that’s where these parties can change things. It’s thanks to this type of party that Spain has just recognised Palestine as a country. They’re not doing enough in my opinion and they could change more things but if it wasn’t for them then nothing would have been done.

I can’t vote in the uk but if I could I’d not be able to vote for starmer. He is only willing to help Palestine because he’s realised that his attitude in this conflict is making him lose votes

Yes I can appreciate that.
The blatant Islamophobia of parts of the right wing is making me sick though and I cannot stand the thought of the Conservatives and their divisive approach getting in due to voters leaving Labour over this. I'm white and not Muslim though and if I were I would probably feel the same way about it, so no criticism from me.

Jonathan Ashworth lost what was a very safe labour seat to a Independant candidate. There was outrage after he abstained from the Gaza ceasefire vote and it looks like it lost him his seat.

AhNowTed · 05/07/2024 11:43

I am hopeful they will strengthen their stance now they've been elected.

I can understand (though not agree with) the messaging pre-election.

The "ming-vase" and all that.

I don't know why this would have anything to do with our election.

What did we have to do with Hamas raping and torturing women and then claim victim because they're losing a war they started.

I think everyone in this country forgets that the UK is no longer a colonial power. We have zero influence in the middle East and have had for a very long time. There's nothing we can do to stop anything.

I'm sick to death of this. The UK has enough of its own problems and Palestine shouldn't be a factor in a UK election.

Oh for fuck sake.

A genocide, but nothing for us to be concerned about.

Well I and an awful lot of other people care about our Goverments stance on what is happening in other Countries, how we are viewed by the rest of the world does matter. But also humanity matters very much, i dont want to hear politicians in our Country supporting the slaughter of a whole nation.
