Eliminate Hamas……At any the cost ?

Itoosurvive · 24/01/2024 20:55

Israel’s aim is to eliminate Hamas’ fighters.

So far it has cost 25,000 Palestinian lives.
Approximately 300 members of the IDF have been killed.
According to US intelligence (Rad 4 news 18.00 21-1-2024) between 20% and 30% of Hamas' fighters have been killed.
Approximately 65% of buildings have been destroyed.

So, the IDF is about a quarter of the way through the task they have been set.
The following question is directed at anyone who supports the current campaign to remove Hamas.

When does the loss of life become great enough to call a halt to the operation, or should it carry on until Hamas is eliminated, regardless of the cost?

edit, Title should read "At any cost"

@Fussandmisery 🤔It is confusing, reading the thread back!
That was in reference to the deleted post who was saying that she could write a book titled "Palestinian non-violent resistance"...

There has been nonviolent Palestinian resistance over the years. It has not been 100% terrorist groups doing terror attacks on behalf or behest of the Palestinians.

For example, there was Palestinian resistance to Hamas when they took over Gaza- there was an online #theykidnappedGaza record of the protests. Hamas killed the leaders, a few fled, most were only students.

In addition, Palestinians have held peaceful protests in East Jerusalem to try and stop their cemeteries from being demolished to make way for illegal Jewish settlements or community centres.

So it follows that not all tunnels are suitable to be flooded (to avoid contaminating the aquifers)

The IDF do not care! Before Oct 7th, 90% of the water in Gaza wasn’t fit for human consumption. On Oct 7th, they turned off the water supply between West Bank and Gaza. Under pressure they turned some of it back on. But most Gazans have been drinking salty, contaminated, unsafe water from agricultural wells these past four months. With their approach being stop Hamas by any means and no civilians are innocent, they won’t even bother to think about contaminating fresh water for civilians in Gaza.

Lanabigbanana · 01/02/2024 18:16

@AdamRyan "Really? Is that like how they had no interest in destroying gaza, just going after Hamas, so it was crazy unreasonable to say they were reducing it to rubble, then oops, we destroyed 60% of it in 3 months??

I don't trust them at all. This is just their playbook and unfortunately we'll only know it's definitely bullshit once they've contaminated the aquifer, as set out in that terrifying link above."

I can't see the point in making the land unusable because that's no use to anyone.
They've also been told not to do anything that could be construed as 'genocide', so it makes sense that they've had their own 'experts' advise them.

They have obliterated a load of farmland, so already done what you can't see the point of.

And they've pretty much laughed the genocide thing off and stuck to the "But Hamas" line

And new reports now of burning homes too

Information obtained by Haaretz indicates IDF commanders have ordered soldiers to set fire to abandoned Gaza homes without legal approval.

Several hundred have already been irreparably damaged

When we think the IDF have reached the depth of depravity, they prove us wrong, again and again. Why, just why?

Why?? What's their reasoning? The house is Hamas? That sounds stupid just like burning abandoned houses down is stupid.

Their "reasoning" is that every "Arab" (they mean Palestinians - but anti-Palestinian racism dictates that "there is no such thing as Palestinians") is "Amalek". And, hence, needs to be eradicated from the face of the earth. Men, women, children, livestock, houses, wells, ...

This is, apparently, what "genocidal logic" looks like.

And ... just before I get deleted again for pointing out just how much Israelis seem to hate Palestinians: please note that "remember Amalek" is a direct Netanyahu quote. And that - in the grand scheme of things - this is "on the harmless end of the spectrum", opposite other literal government ministers literally demanding that Gaza be nuked.

They say it and the "reasoning" is because: they genuinely don't think Palestinians are equally as human!

@HeidiInTheBigCity What a hate-filled radical post.

Israel is not looking to eradicate Palestinians. They are not aiming to kill babies and children and they most definitely are not out to kill animals. Just yesterday I saw a clip of soldiers giving dogs and cats water and food in Khan Younis.
Israel are fighting to get Hamas out of power and are determined to accomplish this and ensure their borders are once again secure.

And I'd like to point out that saying that Hamas is Amalek is just a turn of phrase to refer to all enemies of the Jewish people. It is not used to mean literally wiping out of a nation.
But I do agree with you that it is far from the most appropriate phrase for Netanyahu to use in this highly sensitive conflict.

Efacsen · 02/02/2024 07:33

There are currently 30,000 people trapped in Khan Younis unable to evacuate because of the intense ongoing battle there. Half likely are children mainly under the age of 10. They have no access to food, water, or healthcare. Source yesterdays Guardian

So that's nice that the soldiers got to have their photos taken giving food and water to the animals in the same town

TomeTome · 02/02/2024 08:31

Imagine being forced out of your home and running across the country to live in a tent with your family and then someone burns your house down. Imagine defending that?

An ongoing battle requires more than one protagonist

If only Hamas would return the hostages they took and surrender.

No more raging battle

JustMaggie · 02/02/2024 09:40

Cats and dogs get food and water while people are being purposely starved to death. Well how generous. 🙄

Hamas have been willing for a ceasefire and return of all hostages for sometime

It's Israel who don't want that

Februaryfeels · 02/02/2024 09:59

Really @Efacsen
That's great then

So they'll surrender and no longer ask to swap hostages with the Hamas terrorists who were part of the barbarism on 7/10. - actual brave Hamas fighters as opposed to the Gaza civilians that went along for the ride?

Great news

Isn't it so cute that after all that's happened people still think this is about the return of the hostages. Bless them.

Oh I am. And saw just last week Hamas turned down a two month ceasefire in return for hostages, HAMAS said no.

when did Hamas EVER offer to return all the hostages?

Parkingt111 · 02/02/2024 10:08

Interesting poll that indicates that half of US adults think Israel have gone too far in their offensive in Gaza. Was quite suprised to see this from the US

It's been Hamas position since the beginning of December that it's ceasefire first then the hostages will be returned - widely reported and a non-starter

What you are referring to 2 weeks ago was information from discussions in Paris and Washington which did not involve Hamas - Hamas have now been formally presented with the proposals and are thinking about whether or not to proceed to negotiations

What do Hamas gain from a 2 month ceasefire to return the hostages? From where I am, they lose their negotiating power and gain a two month gap before Israel resume the war, in which time there is still no shelter in gaza and food/water would be dependent on aid.

It doesn't seem like they get much out of that deal so I'm not surprised they said no. Clearly they took hostages as negotiating leverage, so the only way Israel are getting them back is by actually negotiating I.e. giving Hamas something Israel don't want to give up.

There is only one thing Hamas have said they want - the total destruction of Israel. So not sure how there's much room for negotiation on that

This is a bit of a silly statement as evidenced by the the negotiated ceasefire and return of 110 hostages at the end of November
