@Efacsen thanks for the update. I was just coming on to post the same thing.

www.aljazeera.com/news/liveblog/2024/5/20/israels-war-on-gaza-live-al-awda-hospital-runs-out-of-drinking-water

The link is reading as a different story but let me know if it directs you to the ICC arrest warrant article please.

Reaction from Israel

“Placing the leaders of a country that went into battle to protect its citizens, in the same line with bloodthirsty terrorists - is moral blindness,” wrote Benny Gantz. “Accepting the position of the prosecutor would be a historical crime,” he added.

Yair Lapid, the Israeli opposition leader, condemned as a “disaster” the announcement by the International Criminal Court prosecutor that arrest warrants had been requested against Israel’s prime minister and defence minister, Reuters reported.

Israeli hostages’ families have rejected the ICC prosecutor drawing “symmetry” between the Israeli leadership and Hamas, Haaretz reported.

Reaction from Hamas

Hamas official: ICC prosecutor’s decision ‘equates the victim with the executioner’

The decision by the ICC prosecutor to seek arrest warrants for three Hamas leaders “equates the victim with the executioner”, a senior Hamas official told the Reuters news agency.

Sami Abu Zuhri also said the ICC decision gives encouragement to Israel to continue its “war of extermination” in Gaza.

Thanks @Efacsen

let’s see what USA has to say about these arrest warrants

ps yes I’ve posted about icc here knowing they were different but related.

Efacsen · 20/05/2024 13:42

And if you were missing a contribution from Smotrich here it is

Smotrich compares Hague court to 'Nazi propaganda' and says arrest warrents for Netanyahu and Gallant are 'arrest warrants for all of us'

We haven’t seen such a show of hypocrisy and hatred of Jews like that of The Hague Tribunal since Nazi propaganda. Haters of Israel come and go, Israel’s eternity will not lie.
These arrest warrants will be the last nail in the dismantling of this political and antisemitic court. The friends of Israel and the truly enlightened countries will not be able to allow its continued existence and functioning.
The same is true of the Palestinian Authority, which is behind the proceedings at the court. The time has come to bring it to an end and stop the damage it is causing to the state of Israel in the world.
I would like to strengthen the hands of the prime minister and the minister of defense. Their arrest warrants are the arrest warrants for all of us. Israel will continue to defend itself and eradicate its enemies and history will judge those who sided with the Nazis of Hamas and against the light and goodness of the State of Israel.

Thank you. Will be looking out for their judgement, surely they need to agree with SA.

Efacsen · 23/05/2024 15:23

Unfortunately this is Israels likely response @MissyB1

Asked whether Israel would comply with a possible ICJ ruling against it, an Israeli government spokesperson said:

''No power on Earth will stop Israel from protecting its citizens and going after Hamas in Gaza.''

Law unto themselves and they get away with it 😡

Not sure about this ICJ can't impose sanctions so would have to refer to UNSC where any threat of sanctions would likely be vetoed by the US

Israeli newspaper Haaretz is reporting that several “senior Israeli officials” voiced concerns today that the court will take a tougher stance against Israel’s assault on the Gaza Strip in tomorrow’s ruling.

“The main concern in Israel is that the court – which a few months ago compelled Israel to increase humanitarian aid entering Gaza but did not issue an order to stop the war in the Strip – may take a more hardline position this time against Israel, potentially exposing it to international sanctions,” Haaretz reports.

Efacsen · 24/05/2024 08:23

The international court of justice is expected to issue a new ruling on Israel’s conduct of its war in Gaza at 3pm (1400 BST) on Friday, as the US expressed concern over Israel’s growing diplomatic isolation among countries that have traditionally supported it.

Thanks for the update
I'm really hoping the ICJ see sense and order the immediate halt to the brutal attack on Rafah. Aswell as ordering that Israel allow in more aid to the starving Palestinians

BelleHathor · 24/05/2024 14:24

Court orders Israel to immediately stop it's Rafah offensive.

BelleHathor · 24/05/2024 14:25

Israel must allow unimpeded access to the Gaza strip of official bodies to fully investigate and preserve evidence of Genocide.

Parkingt111 · 24/05/2024 14:26

@BelleHathor Where was this reported? I was checking the live updates on bbc and saw this

He says the court has observed "with regret the catastrophic living conditions of people in the Gaza strip has deteriorated further", especially prolonged and widespread deprivation of food.

Parkingt111 · 24/05/2024 14:27

But it hasn't reached the actual ruling yet on there although what the judge is saying sounds pretty damning

Parkingt111 · 24/05/2024 14:29

It's updated now

The court rules that Israel must immediately halt its military offensive and other actions in Rafah, citing the "immediate risk" to the Palestinian people.

Parkingt111 · 24/05/2024 14:30

@BelleHathor thanks

So so glad to see this ruling
Although it's too late for so many 💔

It's very "woolly" legalistic language, such as the Rafah offensive must be halted where it might impede on the Palestinians right to not be subject to genocide.

You're right too little, too late, though 💔. The most important thing is do get all these atrocities documented by "Western agencies" so that the evidence can be preserved, as so many people unfortunately do not believe Palestinians.

ConnieCounter · 24/05/2024 14:35

A positive ruling. I'm relieved.

Efacsen · 24/05/2024 14:44

Bit less woolly but there'll be dispute about who is keeping Rafah closed

Israel has been ordered by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to open the Rafah border crossing for humanitarian assistance. It has also ordered Israel to allow access to the Gaza Strip for investigators.

It is the correct ruling, but will war criminal Netanyahu listen and will western powers continue to turn a blind eye to this genocide in the making? I need to check if BBC have bothered reporting this.
