In honour of thread 2, here is Nelson Mandela famously saying that America's enemies are not South Africa's enemies.

"Our attitude to any country is determined by their attitude to our struggle"

Mandelas Message to USA , "YOUR ENEMIES ARE NOT NECESSARILY OUR ENEMIES TOO"

#Mandela #mzansi #SouthafricaTown Hall Interview , June 21 , 1990. In 1990, Nelson Mandela visited the U.S. for the first time after being freed from 27 year...

I’ve also been reading the Guardian this morning.

Ayalon said most Israelis believed that “all Palestinians are Hamas or supporters of Hamas”

Now off to read the other SA article.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2024/jan/14/shin-bet-ami-ayalon-calls-on-israel-release-intifada-leader-marwan-barghouti

He's probably on to something here - but his ideas won't satisfy the needs of either Netanyahu or his extreme right coalition partners.

@HeidiInTheBigCity He says his views are extremely unpopular. Do you or anyone else know what is happening with Netanyahu’s corruption case? And what the likely outcome (the case and wider impact) of that may be?

EasterIssland · 15/01/2024 13:10

Thanks @HeidiInTheBigCity

stomachameleon · 15/01/2024 22:56

I apologise. Wrong thread. I will report.

ssd · 15/01/2024 22:57

@Parkingt111 , that footage is horrific. And people are having to live amongst that destruction. Its unimaginable.

EasterIssland · 15/01/2024 23:00

Thanks @stomachameleon I saw the allegations and agree it’s concerning but wasn’t sure what it had to do with this thread hence why asking

It really is, and I'm glad the BBC posted it as too often the destruction of Gaza is minimised.
Even when the war ends, many will be living in unsafe and dangerous conditions

ssd · 16/01/2024 08:32

So many lives ruined and for what?

No one is coming out of this well.

I agree what exactly is being achieved by all this death, destruction and hatred? We now see increasing escalation throughout the region, sadly our own Government willing to be a part of that escalation. Absolute madness 😡

Parkingt111 · 16/01/2024 09:23

I really wanted to share this but wasn't sure which thread. Hope it's ok to share here. The BBC shared this clip of a young girl in Gaza who talks about her life in the war and the effects it has had on her. She lost her home and her brother was killed, aswell as being displaced twice. She dreams of becoming a doctor one day. When it comes to Gazans, we often only hear of them as numbers and statistics, so this is a opportunity to share a name and a face

Nadin Abdullatif

'This is my home’ – a 13-year-old's life in ruins

Nadin Abdullatif moved home three times since the war began, and an Israeli air strike killed her brother.

Efacsen · 16/01/2024 09:30

@Parkingt111 thank you for posting this so much de-humanising even if unintentional

Seeing that girl all bundled up against the weather reminded me that there are now reports of young children dying of hypothermia in addition to malnourished mothers newborns at a few days old
