@stormy4319trevor yes new satellite photos this morning show that the 'compound' for refugees in n sinai has being enlarged since 15/2 photos

I hope so but I believe the Israeli government will ignore these calls.
The only way, I believe, they will stop if the US stop funding them.

Or tough economic sanctions? Israels economy is wrecked already and GDP has dropped by 20% in 4 months

Sorry that's what I meant. English is my second language so, at times, I am not as clear as I wish to be.

Your English is fantastic!

Read 'somewhere' which I can't find now that there's a possibility that Israel doesn't have enough ground troops atm to invade Rafah because a lot of reservists have been sent back into employment to protect the economy

But who knows

Efacsen · 20/02/2024 16:14

Still no sign of the IDF evacuation plan for Rafah

Tho' UN has noted a steady trickle of people leaving Rafah of their own volition heading for Deir-al-Balah and Nuseirat refugee camps in central gaza north of Khan Younis

.

Temporary ceasefire. What a joke.
there needs to be a permanent ceasefire now. Israel also needs to stop starving Gaza immediately.

That's not going to happen anytime soon unfortunately. The US vetoed again and the UK abstained. Absolute joke.

Really interesting interview with the ex UN military head and Force Commander Canadian Brigadier-General in Rwanda Roméo Dallair on Radio 4 today.
A bit of context first for those of us who don't know who he is.
He was the one who warned the UN of the impending genocide there and had asked to be send more troop so they could stop it. Instead, they had to leave the country. He suffered severe mental health problems after this.
When asked if he considered what is happening in Gaza a genocide, his answer was yes. He went on to explain why.

This resonates with me.
I worked in the immediate aftermath of the Rwandan genocide. I know what genocide looks like. This is a genocide for practical purposes.

It’s been clear for months and months what would happen as result of the Israeli response to 7/10. What is happening is a genocide. It may not meet the technical legal definition of a genocide for the IDF- the genocidal intent is inferred by deed and action this is open to interpretation by the court. This will be determined retrospectively.

Is a French door a window or a door? Is a roof light a window or part of your roof? Is a large village the same as a small town? Is the untargetted bombing of a densely packed urban area in the knowledge that civilian casualties will out number potential terrorists by at leat 2:1 a genocide or just something that is indistinguishable from genocide? Does it matter?

The term Holocaust was new in its day. The situation in Gaza is different because it is happening in real time in full view of the world- we can see the pain on the child’s face as he lies on the floor bleeding and moaning and see his shattered femur protruding as he writhes in agony. Atrocities carried out by those who said never again. In the Holy Land. By God’s chosen people . What is a word but a way of describing an idea? What will this atrocity be called? We don’t have a word to convey that much evil. Genocide will do.

The sense of helplessness is terrible. No matter who prevails on Israel, it continues. It’s like we’re screaming genocide, genocide and we just hear these lame excuses from the US administration and the Israeli government.

I mean, would God want you to take a piece of land that belongs to you by way of genocide? I think not.

You probably best not read the Old Testament and much about the original founding of Israel then 😬

Israel are going very Old Testament about this war 😢

Efacsen · 23/02/2024 11:59

Isn't today the day that Israel is supposed to submit it's report to the ICJ?

The IDF seem to be documenting it themselves which is bizarre, this was broadcast on an Israeli TV channel. They are admitting that they are arresting anyone who has ever associated with someone who they assess as a terrorist. So basically by knowing someone who has committed a criminal act you are measured as a criminal yourself? As someone pointed out in the comments section, the whole of the US would be assessed as guilty then.

This is evidence documented by the IDF themselves with a journalist embedded in a military unit. So, so odd!

Just for transparency I'm going to post this on the documenting Israel war crimes thread too as it applies there.

Israel to inform ICJ of measures in compliance with genocide case

Israel will send a formal notification to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on Monday to detail how it is complying with provisional measures handed down by the court, the Times of Israel has reported.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has asked the foreign and justice ministries to draft a report detailing how Israel is complying with provisional measures to safeguard Palestinian civilians during its war on Gaza, the newspaper said, citing a Hebrew-language report on the Ynet news site.

The document will focus on the orders to “prevent and punish the direct and public incitement to commit genocide”, take immediate steps to “enable the provision of urgently needed basic services and humanitarian assistance to address the adverse conditions of life faced by Palestinians in the Gaza Strip” and “prevent the destruction and ensure the preservation of evidence” pertaining to allegations of genocide.

Israel is waging what many governments have called a genocide in Gaza and is now preparing for an offensive on the southern city of Rafah, where over a million people are displaced, raising questions on its commitment to abide by the provisional measures set by the UN court.

I'll save you the wait, the report will be a variation of:
"......But Hamas.......... But Hamas....... But Hamas....... But Hamas....... We don't recognise the jurisdiction of the court ......But Hamas....... ......But Hamas....... You are unfairly targeting Israel which has a right to defend itself......But Hamas....... ......But Hamas....... "

I have a feeling whatever they draft into this report will largely differ from the reality of what they are doing. But of course there will be a lot of "but Hamas" "human shields" and "civilians associated with Hamas.." etc

Efacsen · 24/02/2024 16:42

And a very big chapter on ''but UNWRA''

Or maybe a large sheet of white paper with just MYOB on it

Efacsen · 25/02/2024 10:16

Very pleased to see that these starving people might be about to receive some food - the flour has been witheld for weeks plus multiple reports of babies/children dying of starvation/people eating leaves yesterday so the timing is 'interesting'

Thousands wait for possible flour delivery near Gaza City

Thousands of Palestinians in northern Gaza have flocked to a central street near Gaza City for a possible delivery of flour and humanitarian aid a day after the UN refugee agency for Palestine, UNRWA, said it was no longer functional in northern Gaza amid Israeli restrictions on food aid access.

The Palestinians have been queueing in the area since the early hours of the morning, according to footage reviewed by Al Jazeera’s Sanad fact-checking agency.

Efacsen · 26/02/2024 12:06

This from HRW

The Israeli government has failed to comply with an order by the UN’s top court to provide urgently needed aid to desperate people in the Gaza Strip, Human Rights Watch said. “The Israeli government is starving Gaza’s 2.3 million Palestinians, putting them in even more peril than before the World Court’s binding order,” Omar Shakir, the Israel and Palestine director at Human Rights Watch, said. “The Israeli government has simply ignored the court’s ruling, and in some ways even intensified its repression, including further blocking lifesaving aid.”

And more from Amnesty

Israel fails to take steps to comply with ICJ genocide ruling: Amnesty

One month after the ICJ ordered “immediate and effective measures” to protect Palestinians in the Gaza Strip from the risk of genocide by ensuring sufficient humanitarian aid and basic services, Israel has failed to take even the bare minimum steps to comply, Amnesty International says.

“Not only has Israel created one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world, but it is also displaying a callous indifference to the fate of Gaza’s population by creating conditions which the ICJ has said places them at imminent risk of genocide,” said Heba Morayef, Middle East and North Africa director at the human rights group.

“Time and time again, Israel has failed to take the bare minimum steps humanitarians have desperately pleaded for that are clearly within its power to alleviate the suffering of Palestinian civilians in Gaza,” she added.

Efacsen · 27/02/2024 07:50

@anotherlevel that Instagram post is a sad catalogue of tragic events over the last month Sad

Now that the other ICJ case has finished dominating the news perhaps we'll hear more about this one?
