@inkworks273 i agree it's extremely hypocritical seeing as the US provides alot of the ammunition for this 'over the top' response.
Can he stop it at any time? Maybe by threatening to stop further aid but apart from that I'm not so sure if he can. Netanyahu seems like a mad man who isn't likely to listen to anyone

He can stop sending weapons as well

Biden had the power to take meaningful action that would protect Palestinian civilians, and he chose not to.

By enabling Israel to act with the unconditional support of the US he has helped to create the conditions in which anger, hatred, revenge and cruelty are out of control.

He has helped to create the necessary conditions for an ‘over the top’ response.

Will he turn his recent words into action? Showing he was miscalculated in his support, rather than somebody who doesn’t value the lives of ordinary people?

Or, is it a hollow attempt to escape responsibility, and play the good guy?

Efacsen · 09/02/2024 10:13

And this too - IMO Biden is getting his excuses in early

Food in Gaza is becoming food is becoming 'so scarce that people are resorting to eating grass', says ActionAid

An international charity said that food is becoming so scarce in Gaza that people are resorting to eating grass. “Every single person in Gaza is now hungry, and people have just 1.5 to 2 litres of unsafe water per day to meet all their needs,” said ActionAid in a statement published on Friday that warned intensifying attacks in Rafah would have “disastrous consequences”.

PeasfullPerson · 09/02/2024 10:26

I am not only incredibly worried and disturbed about Gaza, I am concerned that Biden’s actions mean Trump will come back into power. If that happens then Biden will have potentially sacrificed our (the Wests) idea of democracy, however flawed, in addition to the lives and homeland of Palestinians. He would do well to turn his words into something meaningful, like show respect for international law, with actions.

Parkingt111 · 09/02/2024 10:30

There's probably various reasons for his comments, not only his but Blinken and Kirby's too. Food scarcity and starvation is a huge concern and Blinken expects Israel to do more to stop the protesters from blocking aid into Gaza.

A recent poll showed 50% of democrat voters consider Israels war in Gaza as a genocide against the Palestinians. Now that is certainly something that he should be worried about.

Efacsen · 09/02/2024 10:41

Israeli protesters blocking Nitzana crossing, says Al Jazeera Guardian

This is new and very worrying - it's where Israel security checks all humanitarian aid going into Gaza - already a slow process. The recent protests at Kerem Shalom have interfered with the passage of aid after it has been checked so can still go in via Rafah instead

Blocking aid at Nitzana creates a tighter bottle-neck strangling aid into Gaza

IDF could easily stop all this but won't because of bad PR wrt hostage situation and the fragility of the Israeli government

Hopefully ICJ will be taking note

@Parkingt111 "I'm of the view, as you know, that the conduct of the response in the Gaza Strip has been over the top," the US president said.
"There are a lot of innocent people who are starving, a lot of innocent people who are in trouble and dying, and it's gotta stop."

Isn't he the one starving innocent people by defunding UNRWA based on zero evidence? He's acting like he doesn't have the power to stop this at any time.

Pure lip service! He is after optics because the situation is costing him domestic support - and political capital on the international stage!

Yes it could very well be lip service. The US have also said they won't support the planned military actions in Rafah without necessary protection of civilians but will that be enough of a deterrent? I am extremely worried of a ground invasion of Rafah, there has already been multiple airstrikes where many children and babies have been killed even in the last 24 hours.

A military invasion there would probably result in a massacre like not seen before in Gaza as it is extremely densely populated and majority of the civilians only have tents for cover

Parkingt111 · 09/02/2024 11:07

Netanyahu has said preparations are going ahead like planned. I'm wondering if he is bluffing to pressure Hamas to agree to a deal or if he actually means it. I can't see how any other ally would support this either. It's terrifying for the civilians there

He could stop sending weapons and table a UNSC resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire. He could impose sanctions - not against four individual settlers, but against the state.

He could deal with Israel the way he has with Russia.

He could even just ... abstain at the UN.

But that is something he never will do. Lip service!

IDK @Parkingt111 maybe this is the point at which part of the border wall 'accidently' gets destroyed? Or people are herded out of Rafah to a new 'safe zone'

Parkingt111 · 09/02/2024 11:14

@Efacsen yes that could be one plan i suppose. It would be a big operation to move over a million civilians with their tents and belongings out of Rafah. And the question would be to which 'safe zone' seeing as the rest of Gaza is more or less rubble.

Efacsen · 09/02/2024 11:35

If enough panic is created people will flee without their tents and 'housing' them in Sinai will become someone else's problem/responsibility who then can be criticised for not coping with the mayhem

Whatever the solution it will be deeply cynical and cause further harm to innocent Palestinian people

Lack of an independent free press will help in the cover-up

Efacsen · 09/02/2024 12:05

@NerdWhoEatsMedlar would 1.4 million people fit in that very narrow strip of land even if they were standing up shoulder to shoulder?

Israel's interest in occupying the Philadelphi Corridor is to completely surround Gaza and take full control of the blockade - it has joint responsibility for the corridor with Egypt who have already protested these plans

But then again, I see no reason why the IOF would want the Gazans to go anywhere.

What does this mean please? Have you been following any of this?

Aid groups warn of Rafah 'bloodbath' if Israel advances

“No war can be allowed in a gigantic refugee camp,” said Jan Egeland, secretary general of the Norwegian Refugee Council, warning of a “bloodbath” if Israeli operations expand there.

“Expanded hostilities in Rafah could collapse the humanitarian response,” NRC added in a statement.

BREAKING NEWS

Netanyahu orders Israeli military to prepare Rafah evacuation ahead of expected invasion

Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered Israel’s military to prepare for evacuating Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip ahead of an expected invasion, reports the Press Association.

More details to follow …

ConnieCounter · 09/02/2024 14:49

Oh Jesus I can't bear this. Where the fuck are they expected to go?

Parkingt111 · 09/02/2024 15:21

@Efacsen I just read this too
@ConnieCounter same thoughts, I have no idea

Parkingt111 · 09/02/2024 15:26

Praying for an intervention that it can be prevented somehow, I was reading in this morning's BBC article that some of the displaced civilians in Rafah have moved atleast 6 times. The damage in Gaza is so severe, I can't imagine where it will be safe for over a million civilians

NerdWhoEatsMedlar · 09/02/2024 15:27

20,000 of the 27,840 deaths have been declared as active Hamas operatives.

Israel will need to vet everyone as they evacuate (Dair al-Balah?). Should that ratio continue, the refugee camp won't need to be very big.

Do you have a link for that information?

Efacsen · 09/02/2024 15:32

IDK @ConnieCounter maybe Al Mawasi - tho' longstanding problems getting humanitarian aid there plus moving any place away from Rafah decreases access to aid

But anyway - it's job done - we told them to move out of harms way - we're a moral army etc etc

NerdWhoEatsMedlar · 09/02/2024 16:12

Killed, wounded or captured more than 20,000 terrorists 7th Feb. (about 1:30) https://twitter.com/netanyahu/status/1755339455303418311

9,000 out of 23,000 are Hamas 14th Jan https://www.timesofisrael.com/liveblog_entry/idf-says-it-has-killed-more-than-9000-hamas-operatives-in-gaza-since-start-of-war/

Then there are multiple X and Telegram accounts, who 'know' because they were in the IDF for '5 years':
Only 14,000 Hamas terrorists were eradicated plus an estimated 3,000 buried in their tunnels ...

Remember 70% ish of deaths are women and children. Therefor, it seems all male deaths are Hamas.
