@BelleHathor and the US

BelleHathor · 26/01/2024 14:11

@Parkingt111 of course US too, remember when that weasly spokesman said that the case was Meritless, turns out he was wrong.

I still maintain that the Biden administration will drop Bibi and his crew if there is a threat of America losing power. Always remember America doesn't have friends, it has interests. Also never underestimate some national security agencies who will be keeping accurate records in order to mount a defence if America needs it.

Parkingt111 · 26/01/2024 14:14

@BelleHathor yes the US are going to be struggling internally with this ruling, especially as the case will now proceed and it could conclude that Israel has committed genocide.

This is from the times of Israel:
The Palestinian Authority says a ruling by the UN’s top court that Israel should do everything it can to prevent any acts of genocide in Gaza shows “no state is above the law.”
“The ICJ order is an important reminder that no state is above the law,” Palestinian Authority Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki says in a video statement, adding that the ruling “should serve as a wake-up call for Israel and actors who enabled its entrenched impunity.”

It’d be good to know what

  1. Does pro Israel posters think
  2. What the news say in israel
SomeCatFromJapan · 26/01/2024 14:26

I'm glad that the ICJ has called for the immediate release of the hostages.

I was just coming on to ask the same thing. They've been very quiet on this...

Apart from @SomeCatFromJapan who has just posted.

Not trying to be goady at all but: how do you see the bit that is, arguably, the most significant part of this - no, that is not actually even the provisional measures: it is the fact that the court finds it at least plausible that israel is committing acts of genocide!

That is pretty huge in my opinion - even if I would have wished for more concrete measures!

Yup Biden's approval rating is in the toilet with Under 35's who are mostly pro Palestine and Ethnic minorities who see and feel the similarities between Slavery/Segregation and the Democrats mostly silence on this.

Additionally Bibi's government were extremely clever in ensuring that it was known and seen that it's mostly American weapons that are being used to carry out the atrocities.

It's sad that Palestinians will still have to suffer, but there is more leverage now seeing as the ICJ recognized that there are likely breaches of Article 2 of Genocide convention.

Text of the tweet:

BREAKING: ISRAELI DEFENSE MINISTER YOAV GALANT OFFICIAL STATEMENT

“The State of Israel does not need moral preaching to separate terrorism from the civilian population in Gaza.

The International Court of Justice in The Hague went above and beyond when it granted South Africa's anti-Semitic request to discuss the claim of genocide in Gaza, and added sin to crime when it did not reject the petition outright.

Whoever is looking for justice, will not find it on the leather chairs in The Hague, but in the Hamas tunnels in Gaza where our 136 abductees are kept and those who murdered our children are hiding.

Those who are looking for justice will not find it in the operating instructions found in the pockets of the Nohva terrorists, who were instructed to "drink the blood of the Jews", but in the "Spirit of the IDF" document found in the pockets of our fighters working to protect human dignity.

The State of Israel will not forget the 7.10. - The IDF and the security agencies will continue to act and dismantle the Hamas regime, eliminate its military capabilities, and bring about the return of the abductees to their homes.
Trusts the commanders of the IDF and all the soldiers and members of the security forces.”

I have a feeling Gallant does not quite see the same level of "win" ... his statement:

In his defense: it must be supremely embarrassing to be personally called out for your statements ...

And

Yoav Gallant, Israel’s defence minister said Israel did not need to be lectured on morality.

“The ICJ in The Hague went above and beyond, when it granted South Africa’s antisemitic request to discuss the claim of genocide in Gaza, and now refuses to reject the petition outright,” he said in a statement.

starfleet · 26/01/2024 15:02

I'm back to a PC.

BN statement on the ICJ ruling is what was expected:-

"israels commitment to international law is unshakeable.

equally unshakeable is our sacred commitment to continue to defend our country and protect our people israel has a right to defend itself, the vile attempt to deny israel this fundamental right is blatant discrimination against the jewish state and it is rightly rejected

the charge of genocide levelled against israel is not only false, it is outrageous and decent people everywhere should reject it....

and so it goes on in the same vein.....

From bbc
Sami Abu Zuhri, a senior Hamas official told Reuters news agency: "The International Court of Justice ruling is an important development that contributes to isolating the occupation (Israel) and exposing its crimes in Gaza.
"We call for compelling the occupation to implement the court’s decisions."

Jon Trickett has tweeted the following:

the ICJ ruling means the Britain must cease granting arms export licences for weapons to Israel pending the court’s final determination

Probably.
They look clean and healthy, which is quite impressive given the conditions in Gaza.
