"Yemen, Yemen make us proud, turn another ship around!" was being chanted on the streets of London yesterday and last week.

I'm just interested in whether people think this is a reasonable thing to be chanting or not, because there were quite a few people chanting it. So a quick poll:

Striking ships heading to Israel in an attempt to stop an ongoing genocide. No fatalities as far as I'm aware. I'm finding it hard to feel outrage about that tbh.

That sounds very much like support for terrorism

I must be misunderstanding. I'm sure you're not cheerleading for them

inkworks273 · 23/01/2024 15:24

The only thing I support is an end to the genocide.

Ah the genocide in Gaza not the genocide against the Yemanis which appears less important. She is naturally concerned about the deaths in Gaza but less so about who killed many more in Yeman.

So support the houthis who have committed genocide on their own people?

Yeh but no but.....

I wonder what the difference could be?

Umm I wonder 🤔

Since many more killed in Yeman, then its not about how many people die.

Rishi Sunak says that there will be a zero tolerance approach to those glorifying the Houthi attacks https://x.com/heidibachram/status/1749782256791814166?s=61&t=U9XrcF693-JpMxeIueYG7g

Interesting to see how that pans out when the next large group starts chanting.

I really hope he means it @noblegiraffe - we need to stop accepting anti-British hatred being chanted or acted upon and absolutely stop the anti semitism in Britain today.

XRAYTHIS · 24/01/2024 07:17

Interesting that some people in the west are turning the Houthis, (who have caused massive death and destruction in Yeman) into celebrities 🤔

'As Sky News has shown today, the conflict is making celebrities of the Houthis, like the man they are calling Timhouthi Chalamet, a young photogenic Houthi online influencer.
And the Houthis have successfully drawn Britain and America deeper into the Middle Eastern conflict that's swirling around Gaza'

Houthi social media sensation compared to Hollywood stars calls on UK and US to 'stop this war'

Rashid al Haddad said Yemen stood with Palestine and was "being bombarded for this solidarity" - while British and American forces have taken action following attacks by rebels on ships in the Red Sea.

How obscene that people find terrorists attractive, does highlight the shallow nature of their understanding though.

evangelion0 · 24/01/2024 08:25

inkworks273 · 23/01/2024 15:09

Yes, I agree that they should only be targeting Israeli ships.

So terrorism is fine as long as Israelis are the target?

inkworks273 · 24/01/2024 08:48

@evangelion0 Blocking ships with the aim of stopping the Israeli government committing a genocide against the Palestinian people is quite low on the list of things I feel outraged about.

Now if you want to talk terrorism let’s talk about a man made famine against 2.1 million people, bombing hospitals & refugee camps, killing journalists & their families, bombing ambulances, using white phosphorus on civilians, digging up graveyards, deliberately withholding aid including anaesthetic for children having limb amputations, blowing up universities… I could go on and on. Now that I’m pretty outraged about.

quantumbutterfly · 24/01/2024 08:58

Passion without perspective is a dangerous combination.

It appears that terrorists targeting Israelis = good.

Targeting terrorists (The Houthis) who attack ships = bad

Same terrorists (The Houthis) targeting their own people = ignore

Interesting. I wonder why

Passion without perspective is a dangerous combination.

It's a useful weapon that terrorists can harness.

So that's a yes? You support terrorism as long as its against Israeli?

Incidentally, do you know what the Houthi slogan is?

inkworks273 · 24/01/2024 09:15

@evangelion0 If you think trying to prevent a genocide is terrorism then I don't know what to tell you.

quantumbutterfly · 24/01/2024 09:16

It appears you don't know much at all.

etmoiandme · 24/01/2024 09:17

It's really fucking concerning that there's visible support for the Houthis on this forum, and not just on this thread it seems. MN needs to get its house in order.

Humdingerydoo · 24/01/2024 09:18

Do the Houthis still have (non-Israeli so therefore innocent because obviously every Israeli is a criminal) hostages? Or have they finally been released?

Oh @inkworks273 . Really? You think the IDF have been digging up graves for shits and giggles? You don't think it might have something to do with looking for buried hostages who were held by terrorists in the nearby hospital?

evangelion0 · 24/01/2024 09:18

inkworks273 · 24/01/2024 09:15

I think a terrorist group attacking ships is terrorism yes.

Do you actually believe the Houthi terrorist give a shiny shit about people in gaza?

So you support terrorism against Israelis? By and antisemitic terrorist group?

inkworks273 · 24/01/2024 09:29

I would support sanctions on Israel by western governments until it stops the genocide but they're too busy enabling it.

@Humdingerydoo I really do think they're that depraved, yes.

Ok, but they're not. Hostages, about 30 of them, were held in the hospital (yes, medical professionals working there were aware) just next door. So they're looking for their bodies so terrorists can't use them as pawns in their sick games anymore. Now that you've been informed of this, I really look forward to you not spreading misinformation anymore. If you do, you'll be wilfully spreading terrorist propaganda and while I can see on here that you have an awful lot of sympathy and empathy for terrorists, I'd hope you'd consider that being some kind of volunteer spokesperson for them l a step (or 20!) too far?

So instead you support terrorism by a group responsible for massive death, displacement and sexual violence?

noblegiraffe · 24/01/2024 09:54

So you are now aware that they are not targeting ships headed for Israel even though they said that they were, but you still believe everything else that they say?

Someone asked you upthread what the Houthi slogan is.

Once you have googled it, can you then explain what the Houthi position on a genocide of Jews is likely to be?

People often forget about slavery.

I don't get it, I really don't

Do they have some sort of romantic Pirates of the Caribbean fantasies?

These are murdering scums terrorists that have terrorised their own country and are now targetting the global food chain

But, muuh, Israel
