Has anyone changed their mind from what they have read on here?

we’ve argued a lot. We’ve backed up our arguments with lots of proof. Has anyone changed their mind or viewpoint - I’m just interested?

it would be lovely if we didn’t argue here and just let everyone state their views.

I’ve spent most of my life in Ireland, where you’d be hard pressed, in the present day, to meet someone who doesn’t agree that the Israeli authorities treat Palestinian’s terribly. It wouldn’t be controversial here to say - isn’t it awful what’s happening in Gaza - in any situation whether when I lived in the UK it was a lot more controversial and wouldn’t be a suitable thing to mention in work for example.

I haven’t changed my mind but I’m a lot more educated about anti semitism and have more understanding of the viewpoint of people who support the Israeli government.

No it’s made me realise the antisemitism problem is even worse than I ever imagined

Not changed my mind at all. I researched a lot of the history about 15 years ago after becoming part of a Muslim community where deep hatred of Jewish people was totally normal and acceptable. They ran the world, controlled all the money, caused all the wars, they should be wiped out etc. I hadn’t known anything about it before and after having quite a few arguments about it and getting no intelligent answers as to why they felt this way, I started reading up on it. I think there may have been another conflict happening there and it was on the news at the time.

In my view, Israel is the victim and Palestinians (and their backers) are the aggressors. It’s no wonder Israel has had to take a hard line after years of being declared war on 9 times, constant suffering rocket attacks, suicide bombings, stabbing rampages, kidnappings perpetrated on civilians etc. There could have had peace 75 years ago and both sides lived alongside each other in shared prosperity and safety. The Arabs were never going to allow that to happen. Totally bit their nose off to spite their face and then cry victim. It’s a religious war, not a land war and the fundamentalists running it cannot be reasoned with. They will accept no less than Israel’s annihilation.

It’s terrible that so many civilians have been killed but that’s all on their government, and they and their supporters (which seems to be a high proportion of the adult population) hold responsibility for that and should answer to their children for that.

The one thing I have changed my mind on is that I thought I could no longer be shocked at how downright dumb people can be and that anti-semitism is so widespread.

That so many people have fallen for the blatant terrorist propaganda campaign and false information by Hamas supporters (including a large amount on here!), denied and minimised the shocking large scale atrocities of October 7th, denied that these cuddly, friendly terrorist ‘freedom fighter’ murderers and their civilian supporters would actually be capable of rape and surely wouldn’t hurt children, rip down posters of kidnapped children, or that anyone can actually support supporters of these absolute scum of the earth. It has absolutely shocked me to the core.

Excellent post.

Im really concerned as to why nobody except a vocal few of us seems to care that Holocaust 2.0 seems to be high on many people’s agendas, and the scary thing is - it could happen to us again.

Do pro-Hamas posters understand how terrifying that is? And don’t dare come at me with “What about the Palestinians”. To make Jews collectively responsible for Israel as deeply anti/Semitic

Mouthouch · 16/12/2023 12:40

I have changed my mind about Israel. I always knew the Gaza situation was a bit dodgy but on the whole expected the Israeli government to behave as a civilised First Nation and thought it was more rogue army members causing issues. But their arrogance is shocking in interviews and their statements, and their behaviour clearly barbaric.

And yes obviously I am holding a supposedly civilised nation to a higher standard than hamas as they are a designated terror group. In the same way I would hold U.K. gov to a higher standard than isis.

Through these threads I learnt about the definitions of antisemitism. That was interesting also.

Thanks for knowing about my ideas better than myself.

do you also think idf are trash? They’ve tortured and raped people or only if you’re a terrorist. If you’re an army person and you commit those acts then it’s ok. Carry on

LeaveBritneyAlone · 16/12/2023 12:51

The antisemitism that’s allowed to stand on MN is disgraceful

Thereissomelight · 16/12/2023 12:53

For all those saying (accurately) how terrible Hamas behaviour was, killing almost 700 Israeli non-military citizens (according to Israeli social security records)on Oct 7, how do you feel about Israel having killed thousands of Palestinians since the Naqba - and having killed thousands of innocent children (and maimed thousands more) in the last few weeks alone?

usernameofnames · 16/12/2023 12:53

@LeaveBritneyAlone please report any antisemitic posts and MN will take them down. If they aren't being removed then I surmise that MN doesn't deem them antisemitic. But if you don't report them they can't be moderated.

Exactly. The cognitive dissonance is wild.

If only people would read this.

There is so.much hate and made up rubbish on X etc. It fuels so much misinformation which leads to a rise in anti semitism. It's awful.

Ha.

I’m sure they’d rake down a post that says something extreme like ‘death to all Jews’ but I’m talking about anti demotic micro aggressions. Today alone I have seen THREE posts telling Jewish People to STFU about their Jewish experience. That is anti-semtism, it’s every day and MN doesn’t care. It’s just one part of a world That still hates Jewish people. If you think otherwise you need to educate yourself

whattheactualfrog · 16/12/2023 12:58

Not necessarily true, I reported a post for being antisemitic and MN said they saw my POV but thought it best to leave it up with a reply explaining why it’s antisemitic. So they don’t always delete. Just because it’s still there doesn’t mean it’s not antisemitic.

But Hamas is more than a terrorist group, it is the governing body in Palestine. If Palestine wants to be a recognized state in and of itself (which I support), surely their leadership should be held to the same standards as all other political leaders worldwide? Hamas was elected in 2006. They're not new to governing a nation, so there is no excuse as to their constant failures to their people and blatant disregard to International Humanitarian Law. I understand that Palestine's political system is not democratic, so there is no blame from me towards Palestinian citizens.

It is very possible to be horrified by all the world’s atrocities and still stand with the PEOPLE of a country who deserve safety, land and a home in a world where they are welcomed absolutely nowhere else.

Palestine don’t want any a two state solution. Do not forget that

I haven't seen anyone post favourably about the Netanyahu government's actions. Even those who are vocally pro-Israel have (to my knowledge) been openly against the IDF.

I do hate that posters criticize "Israel" as a whole, but specify "Hamas" for criticisms. The people of Israel are innocent, just as the people of Palestine are innocent. It is the IDF/Netanyahu government and Hamas that are problematic. Using "Israel" as a whole isn't anti-Semitic as such, but it certainly fuels the fire.

That's not a nice thing to say. What makes you think it's ok to say all Palestinians hate Jewish people and those who talk about co-existing are deluded?

Palestine do it want a peaceful two state solution either - they want to exile Jews from their land
