Has anyone changed their mind from what they have read on here?

we’ve argued a lot. We’ve backed up our arguments with lots of proof. Has anyone changed their mind or viewpoint - I’m just interested?

it would be lovely if we didn’t argue here and just let everyone state their views.

I’ve spent most of my life in Ireland, where you’d be hard pressed, in the present day, to meet someone who doesn’t agree that the Israeli authorities treat Palestinian’s terribly. It wouldn’t be controversial here to say - isn’t it awful what’s happening in Gaza - in any situation whether when I lived in the UK it was a lot more controversial and wouldn’t be a suitable thing to mention in work for example.

I haven’t changed my mind but I’m a lot more educated about anti semitism and have more understanding of the viewpoint of people who support the Israeli government.

I sympathise with you.

I don't agree that questioning whether military actions of one group will prompt a change of agenda in another group (who have publicly documented their hatred and desire to harm) is a discussion that some people should be trying to clamp down on though.

It is reasonable to discuss the cycle of terror, hate, war, radicalisation in any conflict, including the one in Israel/Gaza.

Thanks @whattheactualfrog I have had a look at what the CST do, it's really interesting. For people who don't have time to read the main gist from wiki is here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Community_Security_Trust#:

Their online work is outlined as - 'The CST has been active in monitoring and attempting to combat extremist activity online. In 2019, the CST recorded 1,805 incidents of antisemitic abuse, 697 of which were online.'

This is interesting piece of work too: 'In 2012, the CST provided the model for a new anti-Islamophobia project, Tell MAMA(run by interfaith organisation Faith Matters), with which it now works closely.'

So as @LolaSmiles states they too see it as reasonable to work on systemic reasons for terror - including providing modelling for the cycle of terror, hate, and radicalisation.

They're an interesting organisation Weddingpuzzle. They do research into extremism and radicalisation as well with a view that this will benefit society as a whole as well as the Jewish community.

Thereissomelight · 19/12/2023 16:50

I’m glad to see they’re not an extremist organisation but rather the reverse.

Because I was going to query if any posters were reporting the Islamophobia on these threads to an external organisation.

stomachameleon · 19/12/2023 16:55

@Thereissomelight of course it should be reported and too PREVENT.
That's what they are there for.

whattheactualfrog · 19/12/2023 17:12

I don’t know if there is an equivalent to CST for anti-Muslim hate but will of course do the same if I am pointed in the right direction

Scirocco · 19/12/2023 20:03

@whattheactualfrog there's Tell MAMA, as mentioned a few posts ago, aa well as MEND and others.

whattheactualfrog · 19/12/2023 20:58

Thanks

I’m completely on board with efforts to stop anti-semitism and Islamophobia. However, I don’t want to live in a country where people are vilified for daring to have a different perspective, and I think it’s important to check we don’t swing too far the other way. We need to protect vulnerable groups while also protecting our democracy and right to free speech.

I’m pleased Suella is gone. I don’t want us to end up like this.

We know who created Syria’s torture programme and how

And we have enough evidence for courts to hold them to account.
