In addition, it is now illegal in Israel to publish anything about the war that is opinion, allegation, rumour. It has to be verified.

Source?

Actually if only all press operated like that - at least regarding allegation or rumour - it would be a lot better. Half of journalism these days is simply quoting without checking anything.

SomeCatFromJapan · 05/01/2024 13:46

Analysis of the video by experts has been inconclusive. He is staggering, slipping and bent over clutching his midriff.

Do you have links to the conclusions of these experts?
I, alas, had to rely on my eyes. What they saw was a man roughly manhandled through a hospital foyer, and either struggling or attempting to maintain his balance.

@Hellenika

You said literally kidnapped.

Arrested isn't the same. Isn't that obvious?

Detained. Arrested. Not kidnapped. And not an independent source. Has it been verified by say, Reuters or someone like that?

Haaretz (Hebrew: הָאָרֶץ lit. 'The Land [of Israel]', originally Ḥadshot HaaretzHebrew: חַדְשׁוֹת הָאָרֶץ, IPA: [χadˈʃot haˈʔaʁets]lit. 'News of the Land [of Israel]') is an Israeli newspaper. It was founded in 1918, making it the longest running newspaper currently in print in Israel. It is published in both Hebrew and English in the Berliner format. The English edition is published and sold together with The New York Times International Edition. Its Hebrew and English editions are available on the internet. In North America, it is published as a weekly newspaper, combining articles from the Friday edition with a roundup from the rest of the week. Haaretz is Israel's newspaper of record.[4][5] It is known for its left-wing and liberal stances on domestic and foreign issues.[6]

As of 2022, Haaretz has the third-largest circulation in Israel.[7] It is widely read by international observers, especially in its English edition, and discussed in the international press.[8] According to the Center for Research Libraries, among Israel's daily newspapers, "Haaretz is considered the most influential and respected for both its news coverage and its commentary."[9]

I read an account of children on their bikes being used by Hamas to recce and allowing them to follow up by killing Israeli soldiers

I got a bit emotional. They’ve been detained without charge.

Arrests require an arrest warrant and being charged with a crime, so that doesn’t apply either.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 05/01/2024 13:50

Sharon Cunio said herself she is “broken”. In everything she suffered, the trauma and shock- an injury that she got quick and adequate medical care for, isn’t going to register as much as being reunited with her missing 3yr old daughter.

Oh my God so you think you know better than Sharon Cunio what actually happened to her because she's traumatised?

StarbucksSmarterSister · 05/01/2024 13:52

I think you'd better have a lie down.

So much twisting and turning to try and portray terrorists as caring

Awful

MSN says he was being “held up”
”Another hostage was seen being held up while walking in the hospital hallways.”

Their article implies they have more footage than the clip circulating which only shows the entrance.

What’s with the outage? You were just minimising her ordeal by saying
She makes absolutely no big deal of it..
(it being injured in a bomb blast that almost killed her, her husband and her 3yr old leaving her other 3yr old an orphan, who was god only knows where then and I’m sure it crossed her mind, what if a bomb got Emma).

But you are outraged an my saying stop minimising her ordeal as a hostage of Hamas and almost dying in a bomb blast. The fact her injuries were not immediately life threatening doesn’t make it any less traumatic.

Humdingerydoo · 05/01/2024 14:02

I can see how going to these lengths to defend Hamas would lead to someone getting a bit emotional. You'd have to dig pretty deep. Must be exhausting trying to figure out how to defend terrorists while still trying to appear to care about the hostages.

SomeCatFromJapan · 05/01/2024 14:05

MSN says he was being “held up”

Oh, I thought you meant you had expert analysis not just a journalist who is about as qualified as I am looking at the footage.

This is just gaslighting. If he's held up it's because he's being dragged so violently he'd fall over otherwise. There is no indication in their handling of him that he is injured.

The journalist has also missed the machete. Maybe my eyes are better.

It’s not gaslighting. I can post more links where more reputable news sources have stated similar. In the absence of being able to hear from that hostage himself or any eyewitnesses, it’s the best we have. The gaslighting is you saying it’s settled. That he was definitely being manhandled in there. That’s still an unknown.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 05/01/2024 14:09

You gave me a quote saying that a "palestinian source says".

You then said
it is now illegal in Israel to publish anything about the war that is opinion, allegation, rumour. It has to be verified.

But you have not shown any source for that.

Why was one carrying a machete? Maybe he was going to perform emergency surgery on the hostage he'd kindly helped across the border into Gaza?

In fact, maybe that's why Hamas took hostages? They were all injured by Israeli friendly fire, and Hamas, frantic with worry for their wellbeing, raced them to hospital?

Well, my using a slightly emotional word kidnapped for detained without charge, isn’t as bad an error you claiming Sharon Cunio was held in the hospital for weeks and up until she was released when this did not happen according to her interview.

SomeCatFromJapan · 05/01/2024 14:16

You are getting worse!

She barely mentions it in her own interview and you are quite simply making up the fact that they nearly died in a bomb blast. She NEVER said that.

You've also contradicted yourself in one post saying both
being injured in a bomb blast that almost killed her, her husband and her 3yr old AND
The fact her injuries were not immediately life threatening

You are embarrassing yourself and nobody will take anything you say seriously again.

Yes, here you go. Because it is a wartime for Israel, everything an Israeli newspaper publishes has to clear IDF censors. Which means it has to be verified as accurate, true to be published. It would break the law for Haaretz ri publish anything that were even remotely suspected of being anti-war propaganda.

Attacks, arrests, threats, censorship: The high risks of reporting the Israel-Gaza war - Committee to Protect Journalists

Since the Israel-Gaza war began on October 7, journalists and media across the region have faced a hostile environment that has made reporting on the war exceptionally challenging.   In addition to documenting the growing tally of journalists killed an...
