Why is this not in the mainstream news? I thought there was a ceasefire!

It was reported in the Guardian.
1h ago
19.07 GMT
Palestinian health ministry: Eight-year old and 15-year old shot dead by Israeli forces in West BankTwo boys, one 8-years old and the other 15-years old, where shot and killed by Israeli forces on Wednesday in the occupied West Bank city of Jenin, the Palestinian health ministry said.
In a statement reported by Agence France-Presse, the health ministry said, “Adam al-Ghul, eight years old, and Bassem Abu el-Wafa, 15 years old, were killed by bullets from the occupier [Israel].”
CCTV footage circulating online shows what appears to be one of the boys running for cover in the street before being shot and falling to the ground. Someone else then runs towards the boy and drags him away, leaving behind a trail of blood.
Another video shows what appears to the other boy getting shot and falling to the ground. The boy can be seen struggling on the ground for over half a minute.
According to an official with the Palestinian Red Crescent who spoke with AFP, the boys were on a side street of central Jenin’s main thoroughfare, which is an area theoretically off limits to the Israeli army as it is under sole control by the Palestinian Authority, AFP reports.
Asked about the deaths by AFP, the army said that “a number of suspects” had hurled explosive devices toward troops.
“The soldiers responded with live fire toward the suspects and hits were identified,” it said in a statement.
According to the health ministry, since October 7, violence in the West Bank has increased significantly, with nearly 240 Palestinians killed by Israeli soldiers or Israeli settlers.

@ThickPinkSocks it's absolutely terrible and such a sad waste of innocent life
This happened in the occupied west bank where there isn't a ceasefire
The ceasefire is only in Gaza
It doesn't make it any less upsetting

stillholly · 29/11/2023 20:24

Absolutely horrific. Beyond belief. Surely the other heads of countries should be denouncing this action.

Please just stop.

stormy4319trevor · 29/11/2023 20:26

But what I find very strange is that it seems to be acceptable. IDF does not say it's investigating, and no other countries are commenting. It seems to be legal now to shoot kids in the WB.

ThickPinkSocks · 29/11/2023 20:29

Sorry I must have missed that article in The Guardian.

In the West Bank too. 😰

I don't believe a single IDF soldier has been tried or sentenced or even dismissed for any of the killings of the Palestinians in the occupied west bank. Or has there been an odd occasion they have?

I don't think anyone was even charged for the killing of journalist Shireen Abu Akleh even though that made mainstream news

@Parkingt111 You're right. It's so insane. Imagine the outcry if police shot 9 year olds in the UK. It would be all over the news, and there would be a hefty inquiry and prosecutions.

OneHurtSpaggettio · 29/11/2023 21:13

I’ve seen the CCTV footage and it’s just awful. You can see the kids trying to run away (and a cat) and then they get shot. They’re all unarmed.

It’s an execution.

MissyB1 · 29/11/2023 21:16

It was on channel four news this evening and they showed footage 😢
They were interviewing an Israeli official, and confronted him with it. He said it was during a raid on the West Bank to capture a specific suspect. Oh well I guess they just accidentally started shooting at kids whilst they were there eh?! 😡

MissyB1 · 29/11/2023 21:19

The harassment of and shooting at Palestinians in the West Bank by the IDF has increased during the pause in Gaza. It’s like they have to be killing Palestinians somewhere.

ThickPinkSocks · 29/11/2023 23:32

It was 2 of them. A 15 year old and a 9 year old.

Abhorrent.

This morning on BBC radio the 3 killed in the shooting in Jerusalem was reported on, but absolutely no mention of the 4 killed in the West Bank, even though that shooting involved the death of 2 children.

If that doesn’t send a message that Palestinian lives don’t matter, I’m not sure what does.

Rocknrollstar · 30/11/2023 11:54

3 Israelis have been shot and killed in Jerusalem and another 6 people are in hospital as a result of a terrorist attack. Why is this not mainstream news? I bet it won’t be in The Guardian.

You obviously didn't even bother to check the Guardian website before flaunting your ignorance - it's the main headline and has been all morning

It's not a football game where we choose sides, these are the lives of human beings. But an army operates under discipline and that makes its actions more shocking and should not be on a par with the actions of random murderers

Dulra · 30/11/2023 12:16

BBC news had it as its headline story last night with footage of what happened. They were unarmed no excuse. IDF are murderers

It was headline news on bbc news at 10pm last night with footage of them being shot and interviews with their family

The sad thing is that events like this, shooting boys as they run away are no longer shocking. The good thing though is that now it is being seen and being spoken about. The IDF for years have been lying and covering up murders, now their trueselves are out in the open and questions are finally being asked.

Depdawg · 30/11/2023 12:46

They were suspected of throwing explosive devices at troops.
Just thought I would add that crucial point.

stormy4319trevor · 30/11/2023 12:53

@Depdawg Crikey. Are you justifying shooting 9 year olds because you suspect them now? That's terrifying.

The level of violence in the WB is out of control. International community needs to step in and keep the peace there.

Have a look at their ages, they were children fgs executed. Plenty of young people commit crimes in other countries and don't get executed for them! Have a look at the footage they were running away so no threat when shot. Maybe you want to live in a world where kids get shot for their actions but I certainly don't.
Many teenagers in Northern Ireland threw petrol bombs at British soldiers who for the most part did not shoot them dead without impunity

Parkingt111 · 30/11/2023 12:59

Note the word 'suspected' which is very different to proven
Is there any proof of this?
And regardless who shoots a 9 year dead for a 'suspected crime'

No, I live I a real world, where I see the bigger picture/threat.
