“Pause” ends tomorrow. Anyone else filled with dread ?

Just that really. I’ve felt such relief the past couple of days that my phone won’t be filled with a constant stream of murdered Palestinian kids and wailing parents. That all ends tomorrow and I have such a sense of foreboding even though I’m safe and comfortable thousands of miles away. I can’t begin to imagine the dread the Palestinians in Gaza must be feeling tonight knowing their genocide resumes tomorrow. When will it end 😞

"It was all over the Israeli news yesterday. I watched it live at my in laws house, so I don't have links right now. Sorry. No one I know in Israel was surprised that fighting resumed today, the signs were all there." @Humdingerydoo

It seems like a good bit of prep work was put in. Between the leaflets and the early morning bombing. And giving a reasonable excuse to those watching at home (i.e blame Hamas) would have been part of that.

notimagain · 01/12/2023 10:23

@MrsSkylerWhite

I don’t care whose fault it is. It has to stop. On both sides, it’s innocent civilians who are suffering.

Understood but I was addressing the point you were making specifically about the IDF's actions this AM and hostages.

Early morning bombing following rockets fired from Gaza. And before all that, Hamas not providing a list of hostages to release, which meant the ceasefire was over.

Israel has been preparing for when the fighting started again, they haven't kept that secret. They knew they would eventually have to resume and they decided in advance where they would go so they had leaflets already printed. Hamas have also been preparing. That's how they once again have enough to fuel to fire rockets into Israel.

Literally everything Israel says and does is somehow twisted by you to make it bad. Including them warning civilians to evacuate.

I take it your five minutes of sadness are over now, then.

I was asking for 5 minutes without people making posts blaming the victims, or anyone other than Israel, for the Israeli bombings. No one is forcing Israel to bomb Gaza. They're not putting and end to Hamas or getting hostages released by doing it.

You don't have to be so dismissive and flippant of me. It shouldn't be beyond belief to you that there are people out there who are sad to hear that a civilian population that is already on its knees with no services or healthcare is being bombed by one of the most advanced military forces on earth.

I'm not twisting what Israel is saying or doing. Only Israel is saying that there were rockets from Gaza first. I can't find anyone else saying that. They are bombing civilians. That's a fact. I'm not twisting it. It's gross and horrendous beyond belief but that's on Israel, not me.

Ok well the ceasefire was broken by Hamas when they didn't hand over a list of hostages to release, so even though you don't want trust Israeli media Hamas are still the ones who broke the ceasefire.

I'm leaving this thread now as it's obviously not going to go anywhere.

I hope things get better soon.

Hamas took responsibility for yesterday's two terrorist attacks, 3 murdered including a heavily pregnant teacher. Rockets started at 5:42 am, (ceasefire was until 7 am), with sirens in Sderot, Ivim, Nir Am, Gavim, Sapir College. They don't appear to care about or want a ceasefire.

If Hamas are blatantly breaking the ceasefire, I don't understand how pressurising Israel not to respond will help. If they see they can keep breaking the ceasefire, they will just escalate the attacks, which is exactly what happened in the year leading up to October 7th. We were holding in a ceasefire with Hamas, and they continuously sent terrorists over who killed civilians during this 'ceasefire', interspersed with rocket attacks, until they finally culminated in committing the massacre in October. At this point, the ceasefire was broken beyond repair, and Israel went to war.

Pressure needs to be brought on Hamas, whether from Qatar or anyone who they will listen to, to respect the ceasefire (and ideally for Hamas to surrender), or the ceasefire is only a ceasefire for one side. They have made it very clear that October 7th was a 'practice run' and they want to repeat the atrocities again and again. I do NOT want war, every single Palestinian death IS a tragedy, but unless pressure is put on Hamas, calling for just Israel to stop, and not for Hamas to surrender, is asking us to sign our death sentences.

Yes, I am filled with dread, for Israel, and for Gaza.

Jupitersstorm · 01/12/2023 12:02

I haven't seen one Pro Palestinian poster criticise Hamas for breaking the ceasefire. It's this organisation's fault - pure and simple. They started it and then broke the truce. Wake up and smell the coffee! Every casualty on both sides is a tragedy but Hamas wanted this and won't stop!

Stomacharmeleon · 01/12/2023 12:44

@Decemberdaily well said.

This. Hamas know what to do if they want it to stop. Hand over all the hostages and surrender and take part in meaningful peace negotiations. If you attack another country they will retaliate.

And this is a death sentence for Gaza. There are ways to fight a war other than bombing civilian neighbourhoods and hospitals and schools. This is about causing terror though to ethnically cleanse the area so that's why they're doing it this way.

Stomacharmeleon · 01/12/2023 12:58

@Toothyfruity then why aren't Hamas playing ball? Why commit more atrocities in Israel? Why not hold them to account?

stormy4319trevor · 01/12/2023 13:02

Aid has stopped going in. Rafah crossing closed due to bombardment. Somebody asked if it was still going in, so just read that in the G.

I didn't see anything on the news about Hamas breaking the truce. News where I am is saying it looks like Israel broke it but no one is saying for sure. But all international health and human rights agencies agree Israel should stop.

Israel are the ones who've killed over 30 people this morning alone so I just want them to stop.

stormy4319trevor · 01/12/2023 13:07

IDF Raids, arrests, and killings have ramped up massively in the WB there and a 9 year old was shot yesterday I think. Whether you agree with that or not, tensions in the WB do inflame the situation. Any new truce should have conditions for some kind of break in hostilities in the WB also. I would hope mediators could persuade both sides of its importance.

So just to be completely clear on that point: You've really, genuinely not seen any mention of the Hamas sponsored attack on the bus stop in Jerusalem yesterday (I posted a link to the generally not IDF friendly Guardian report on the attack upthread a while back) or the launching of rockets from Gaza towards Israel in the early hours of this AM?

The truce wasn't in the West Bank. If murdering people in the West Bank breaks the truce then surely Israel broke it on Wednesday when it shot 2 children dead? Or do Palestinian deaths in the West Bank not count?

News here is not saying that Hamas fired rockets first. It's saying it's unclear but Israel resumed bombardment early this morning and have killed 32 people.

So Hamas said the rockets/missiles fired towards Israel a few hours before the ceasefire ended (and before Israel fired back, after the ceasefire ended) were 'a misfire' or mistake. Where have we heard that before.

@Toothyfruity

The Israel-Hamas truce has ended: What we know so far

Israel resumed its deadly aerial bombardment on Gaza, minutes after the truce expired.

Yes, in that case Israel broke the ceasefire.

XRAYTHIS · 01/12/2023 16:05

Apparently Hamas blame Israel for stopping fuel coming in. Ah, good enough reason to launch rockets into Israel then 😟

Israel say Hamas wouldn't name any more hostages for release.

EasterIssland · 01/12/2023 14:54

It's heartbreaking. Most of the international community will be too late to condemn the Israeli government, I fear. Their actions must never be forgiven or forgotten, which I believe will be the case, but it's too little too late to condemn them in hindsight.

XRAYTHIS · 01/12/2023 16:08

So again the war resumes. It could stop if hamas surrender and give up hostages. Let peace keepers in to rin the country.

They won't do that though their aim is to continue to attack Israel, who won't sit back and take it so more and more people die. Its awful.

I think the current situation shows that won't happen. Israel was always clear that fighting would resume after a temporary ceasefire and once hostages were released. One thing I can say is that they are very open in their intentions.
Their disproportionate attack on Gaza is unjustifiable. No amount of mental gymnastics can make anyone believe this is self defence at this point.
