Conflict in the Middle East

“Pause” ends tomorrow. Anyone else filled with dread ?

Desertrose2023 · 27/11/2023 15:28

Just that really. I’ve felt such relief the past couple of days that my phone won’t be filled with a constant stream of murdered Palestinian kids and wailing parents. That all ends tomorrow and I have such a sense of foreboding even though I’m safe and comfortable thousands of miles away. I can’t begin to imagine the dread the Palestinians in Gaza must be feeling tonight knowing their genocide resumes tomorrow. When will it end 😞

Hamas will not be allowed to extend the temporary ceasefire indefinitely by releasing a couple of kidnap victims every few days. In the end, it is more important for Israel to destroy the psychopathic rabble of Hamas than it is to save every last hostage; they cannot allow Hamas time to regroup and re-arm as they prepare for the next outrage.

Note the only genocide being attempted is that of the Jews, by Hamas. Commenters who claim otherwise are merely anti-Semitic propagandists.

I am full of dread as well. Might need a bit of help to get to sleep tonight.

Your sleep will be aided by unclutching those pearls. I do find it makes for a more conducive sleeping position.

I see the genocide deniers have showed up. Lovely.

Not just deny it but then appropriate it as happening to them

20k people have been killed and deaths live streamed but calling it a genocide is being hysterical. But hey use the word genocide as happening to Israel, a colonial, illegal and oppressive power, otherwise you are AN ANTI SEMITE

Make it make sense

Experts are saying that it is impossible to destroy Hamas through total war.

Of course it is impossible and Israel know this very well. It’s just a land grab and their policy of “mowing the lawn” ie population reduction. They have created a whole new generation of people who have nothing to lose and will grow up hell bent on trying to harm Israel. The orphans, the maimed, the traumatized, the mums and dads carrying their kids in plastic bags. I’m sure the pro- Israeli posters will be on here asking us to condemn what this generation do in 10 years and acting incredulous that it’s happened.

The truce has been extended by 2 days. Let's hope and pray for a ceasefire.

LimeCheesecake · 27/11/2023 17:11

Just coming back on to say it’s been extended. For all the press comments, it does look like conversations are happening.

thelonemommabear · 27/11/2023 17:15

@Depdawg

Not insinuating but just find it strange their names haven't been released and yet they were taken together.

Chaitales · 27/11/2023 17:16

But during the pause, please be careful not to smile or have a sweet to celebrate a loved one coming back from being an Israeili hostage (the ones noone likes to talk about, bc, um, awkward) because Israel, in its moral and democratic state, said smiling is criminal. Please don't argue with me otherwise you are an anti semite.

Pssst - that doesn't work anymore. Wrongly labelling anyone who disagrees with you as antisemitic trivialises the real and unacceptable issue of antisemitism.

I am concerned too, OP. I see photos of Gazans returning home and worry that they're going back simply to be bombarded and shot at again in the coming days.

@Desertrose2023 Maybe stop streaming horribly toxic intrusive war porn onto your phone. Why are posters investing so much emotional energy on this when it clearly is damaging to their mental health ? Can’t sleep at night, well switch off the Hamas news feed.

Where did you concoct the "Hamas news feed" from?

PurpleChrayne · 27/11/2023 20:02

You do realise that it isn't just a one-sided thing; Hamas are constantly firing rockets into Israel.

So the main "dread" I'm filled with is for my family and friends in Ashkelon, Lod, even Tel Aviv, who will be returning to the routine of herding their children into shelters every half hour.

There is SO MUCH people fail to realise about this conflict. You are so blinded by anti-Israel rhetoric.

and wouldn’t you prefer if they weren’t doing that as often? Would you prefer if they had to do it like they had in the last month? There is no real ceasefire as both sides keep breaking it every now and then with smaller attacks/arrests than in the last month

ps a pic of kids in Gaza enjoying the beach during the weekend

Accusing everyone of being blinded by anti-Israel rhetoric is a sweeping generalisation.
I am concerned for civilians regardless of where they live, but Gaza is hell right now and there is literally nowhere safe to hide once the fighting starts again. No shelters, even hospitals aren't off-limits. No medical supplies, limited amounts of basics, after a period of not even having fresh water, which may well happen again.
It's terrifying for everyone in the vicinity, and the humanitarian crisis cannot continue.

roarrfeckingroar · 27/11/2023 20:09

petuniasandpetals · 27/11/2023 16:20

There will be a ceasefire when all the hostages are returned and when Hamas hands themselves over to Israel.
Or when Israel kills Hamas leaders.
And there is now a further 2 days truce ... hopefully we will get to the end point sooner rather than later.

Exactly

Katharineblum · 27/11/2023 20:12

@PurpleChrayne absolutely. It’s also possible to completely defend the right of Israel to exist, to defend itself exactly how other countries would do (which invariably ends up with babies, children and women, aka innocent people being injured and killed in the crossfire) and to mourn those people from both sides who’ve lost their lives. All we seem to hear is about big bad bully Israel whilst the behaviour perpetrated by oh so oppressed Hamas is conveniently being brushed under the carpet. Don’t know what the answer is to this whole depressing situation but the pretty constant demonisation of one side against another really isn’t helping.

Nobody is blinded by anti Israeli propaganda. Isreal have killed in excess of 20,000 people in the past six weeks

That's 20 times the number of people Hamas killed on 7/10.
20 TIMES

that's not revenge or defending themselves!

And yes I 100% feel that Hamas need removing from Gaza. But this is not the way to do it!!!!

Killing more innocent children won't bring back the lives lost.
Killing more people won't make Isreal safer.

The ONLY way Isreal and Palestine will ever be able to move forwards is to stop the violence!!

Katharineblum · 27/11/2023 20:16

@EasterIssland we know about these children. The biggest question is will Hamas back down, accept the right of Israel to exist and reconciliation can begin (hopefully with different leaders in charge on both sides). Those children will then be able to live peaceful, happy lives next to their Israeli peers.

These are my feelings as well; everyone, both Israelis and Palestinians alike have the right to live without fear of being bombed, but the intensity of the indiscriminate Israeli bombing, the targeting of hospitals, water salination stations and food markets makes me fear that the death toll of Palestinians once the bombing starts is going to rise horrifically.

I believe that attempts should be made to evacuate the children and babies before the bombings start, otherwise they are going to be killed again in the thousands, especially as the IDF are now planning on targeting the South which is where they have sent all of the displaced Palestinians from the North! They are literally going to be sitting ducks.
