JazakAllah khair, @HeidiInTheBigCity .

I think people forget that there are real people, real lives behind all this political point-scoring and trying to "win" at the internet.

I'm here if you need to talk too.

May Allah grant all our loved ones Jannat al-Firdaus.

It sounds like you did exactly what you needed to do for that young boy. He had somebody he trusted there with him, telling him that it would be ok.

... but it was NOT okay!

His name was Rami, and he fucking died!

So true, I was just thinking that after reading yours and HeidiInTheBigCity’s recent posts.

And there will most likely be other people reading, also affected, one way or another. Most of us here though will not have any real idea of their raw apprehension of the reality.

TakeMe2Insanity · 04/04/2024 22:58

Thank you so much for sharing @HeidiInTheBigCity .

Sometimes, that's all I can do for people too. There have been people where I've sat with them as they've bled out, and all I could do was tell them to look at me (so they didn't see everything else) and tell them that it's going to be ok and they're not alone.

And that's not a lie. For them, for him, there was an end to pain in this life and a loving welcome into the next iA. A child killed unjustly - the angels will have welcomed him and he will be safe, at peace and in Jannat al-Firdaus iA.

It's for the rest of us that it's not ok. We live with what we've seen and what we've lost. Someone told me that our lives grow around the people in them, and when those people are no longer with us in body, we still grow around their memory and the space where they were - it's just another way that they shape us.

I'll remember Rami in my duas these last nights of Ramadhan, insha'Allah.

Unlike you, I am not religious!

I have tried many times and have read many books - but that moment of "I believe this!" continues to elude me.

But this means the world! I think of him almost every day! [Maybe that is how us non-religious folks do the equivalent of dua ... I have just been thinking of him and will until the day I die!]

You seem like such a lovely person, though!

This morning's supportive post of the day over in the "To think..." thread.

  1. Western doctor posts
  2. Poster immediately posts comparison between Western doctors today and Mengele.

Yes saw them, I can't get into more discussions with them I am taking the ignore and move on approach like stepping over a tantrumming toddler.

@HeidiInTheBigCity So sorry to hear what you have experienced and I can imagine how much you have replayed those last moments of Rami's life over and over in your head, but accept you did your best there was nothing else you could have done, being with him brought great comfort. Go easy on that 20year old girl xx
I was standing right there: none of my boys threw a single stone that day! But ... even if they had: I would still have to fundamentally disagree with the death penalty for kids throwing stones at tanks
This is what I cannot ever understand, on what planet is execution without trial a normal sentence for kids or anyone throwing stones! I grew up in Ireland during the troubles those kids were firing petrol bombs at the British army, setting their cars and trucks on fire and never were they fired on directly to kill. Petrol bombs are a far bigger threat to life then stones fgs. It is a calculated decision to kill not a last minute reaction to a threat.

@Scirocco

WHO finally given permission to visit Al Shifa today

“The team witnessed at least five dead bodies during the mission. Most of the buildings in the hospital complex are extensively destroyed and the majority of assets damaged or reduced to ashes. Even restoring minimal functionality in the short term seems implausible,” he said in a post on X.

“An in-depth assessment by a team of engineers is needed to determine if the remaining buildings are safe for future use. WHO and partners’ recent effort to support the revival of basic services at al-Shifa are now lost, and people are once again deprived of access to lifesaving health care services.”

EasterIssland · Today 20:19
470 doctors and nurses killed

And for every one of those 470 deaths will be the multiples of deaths they might have helped prevent in the near future in this war zone.

Scirocco · 06/04/2024 21:21

And with that I'm going to step away from the internet for a few hours. It's important that we see this. I'm not strong enough just now.

A bit more on the 5th April visit to al Shifa from OCHA

It concluded that “substantial efforts” were needed to clear unexploded ordnance in Al-Shifa and to “assess the potential for making the facility safe and accessible” again.

It added that northern Gaza has been left without any CT scanning capabilities, significantly reduced laboratory capacity and with only one source for medical oxygen production following the hospital’s destruction.
