Just read about this hostage. The story sounds a bit strange. Hostage / escaped and hide and Hamas finds him again?

@EasterIssland i believe the story is he was being held and it was bombed and he managed to escape. He attempted to find the border but had a head injury. Apparently normal Palestinians handed him over to hamas. Which, as we have heard tonight, might have been better for him than his other options.

Thanks. Have been away this weekend so haven’t read much about those that have been released, only quickly read that a Russian guy had been released as Hamas was thankful to putin for their support so I guess it’s this guy. Just found strange the story of escaping and Hamas finding him back.

Just seen on Twitter. It’s the letter from a mum of a girl that has been held hostage and released over the weekend. Thanking Hamas for the way they’ve treated her daughter whilst in captivity

That's sick. Do you really believe this?

They have posted on other threads. So my guess is yes.

Make of that what you will

I’m not surprised she wrote that. They still had her sister, BIL and 3 year old twin nieces. They were released today.

It's either that some think that Hamas are cuddly, loveable, young individuals who really take their care to the highest levels when looking after hostages...as seen here with the 'look at this letter from a mum whos young daughter has been released' (although forgetting not others in family yet).

Or some are dreadfully naive. See Hamas aren't that bad.

Or something else.

Guardian reporting 30 Palestinian children and 4 women have now been released. There doesn't seem much media presence. Hopefully it has been peaceful, as the G not reporting any shooting. Also they have a short video of a boy meeting his mother again.

Sorry, that's 3 women.

Some tweets available showing the reunions from available but not seeing much from tonight

Apparently they are making them tone it down to stop mass celebrations because of the risk in the current situation it will turn into a little riot again. Seems fairly sensible really.

Reallifelurker · 28/11/2023 07:38

Ben Gvir:
Like I said, a bit racist.

“While there were scenes of jubilation in Ramallah in the West Bank as a group of released prisoners met their families over the weekend, Itamar Ben Gvir, Israel’s far-right national security minister, issued directives cracking down on such celebrations in East Jerusalem, where the Israeli police can directly operate. “My instructions are clear: there are to be no expressions of joy,” he said. “Expressions of joy are equivalent to backing terrorism, victory celebrations give backing to those human scum, for those Nazis”

Reallifelurker · 28/11/2023 08:08

Staring to think the moderate Palestinians and the moderate Israelis should just join forces and chase their respective extremist lunatics off.

Parkingt111 · 28/11/2023 08:21

@Reallifelurker I don't know if views have changed now but from a poll in March this year according to the Jerusalem Post atleast half of people thought he should be fired. So I suppose it depends if you see it glass half full or half empty but it does indicate that he doesn't have support of the majority

When asked whether Netanyahu should fire Ben-Gvir, half the respondents said yes, 40% said no, and 10% didn't know. Among the Likud constituents, 19% said Ben-Gvir should be fired.

Parkingt111 · 28/11/2023 08:48

Now this is truly shocking. Its from sky news

Almost 100 freed Palestinians 'were never charged'More than half of those Palestinians released from Israeli jails in exchange for hostages were never charged, CNN has reported.

Some 98 of the 150 prisoners freed were detained without charge, according to the news site.

Parkingt111 · 28/11/2023 08:51

That means almost 2/3 of the released 'prisoners' were being detained in prison without charge??

It also says that the government refused to disclose figures on how many they have detained from Gaza.

Efacsen · 28/11/2023 08:56

It's appalling

But good that the true state of affairs is reaching such a large audience

Parkingt111 · 28/11/2023 09:01

@Efacsen yes I think it's certainly bringing these issues to the forefront. It remains to be seen if anything will be done but raising awareness Is the first step

Edited

And probably many of Those that had been charged never had a fair court

Stomacharmeleon · 28/11/2023 09:47

Ben-gvir will do nothing to help the peace process, is an extremist and should go. @Parkingt111

stormy4319trevor · 28/11/2023 11:26

Extremists in politics seem to arise all over the world. They have a blinkered focus on an agenda that appeals to an often disenfranchised minority. On the other hand, I think they don't last that long. I don't know much about the political make up in Israel. I have looked at the 1977 founding charter of Likud, and as they are committed to no 2 states and expansion of settlements, I can't see how that's a road map for peace - unless they modify it perhaps. As for Palestine, when I listen to Humza Zulot, who represents the PLO, he sounds quite moderate and committed to non violence. I wonder if there's any hope there.
