Yes it was agreed on right at the last minute
I first thought it wasn't going to go through

Ahed Tamimi was released yesterday

Parkingt111 · 30/11/2023 08:57

She didn't look too good from the pictures I saw of her release
I don't think shel be allowed to give an interview it might just risk her being arrested again

stormy4319trevor · 30/11/2023 10:01

@Parkingt111 I have been wondering why little is reported about the released detainees. But now I wonder if the media is actually not covering it to protect them, because they have been told not to give interviews. Ahed was being tortured, I think her lawyer said., no doubt her family want to shield her from further arrest. I don't usually watch AJ. since I think it has too much bias, but I did check it out as the only media that was reporting on the release of prisoners. The women seemed to be saying they were being beaten and there were threats of sexual violence. It's very worrying. They also said that some women from Gaza were being held separately in the prison. I can't verify the accuracy, and as I said AJ is said to be biased, but hopefully more will come to light.

@stormy4319trevor yes they are not allowed to give interviews. I dont know how much this rule is enforced though as I saw the boy released with the fractured arm talking about how this was inflicted on him in prison and was denied treatment for it

Parkingt111 · 30/11/2023 11:42

I have just seen that Egypt and Qatar are trying to push for a further two days for the ceasefire
It doesn't mention whether it will be under the same terms or different

stormy4319trevor · 30/11/2023 15:57

Ahed Tamimi is in a short clip on the Guardian live. She also said there are 10 women from Gaza in the prison, and claimed torture is happening.

Thanks I will watch that later. Glad it is being reported though like previous posters said there may be repercussions for speaking out.

Parkingt111 · 30/11/2023 18:26

8 palestinians women and 22 children to be released today
So it seems like the truce is ending tonight
There does seem to be efforts happening in the background to extend it but no news yet

stormy4319trevor · 30/11/2023 18:30

@Parkingt111 Oh no. I didn't know it might be ending. I thought it would continue to get more hostages out.

OP posts:
Parkingt111 · 30/11/2023 18:33

@stormy4319trevor it was supposed to end last night but then it was agreed upon to be extended for one more day
I'm hoping it's extended further but I'm not sure if it will happen

stormy4319trevor · 30/11/2023 18:36

I'll keep an eye on the news.

Deadline for truce extension passes

The deadline for the extension of the truce between Israel and Hamas has passed.

The truce was due to expire a few minutes ago, at 7am (0500 GMT) on Friday.

Neither side has announced an extension to the seven-day truce.

Hamas fired a missile into Israel about an hour ago [intercepted] possibly by mistake [??] and sounds of gunfire and explosions heard in northern gaza but nothing else atm

Truly truly hope ceasefire is extended and this is more brinksmanship like yesterday morning

Oh no

Israeli military announces that it has resumed combat

Guardian

Parkingt111 · 01/12/2023 06:53

Yes it's ended
I have seen the strikes are being reported in khan younis and Rafah
Does that mean the operation in the North is now mostly over and has started in the south?

Efacsen · 01/12/2023 06:56

@Parkingt111

No not over - fighting has resumed in the north too

Parkingt111 · 01/12/2023 06:59

Blinken said this yesterday

Israel has... one of the most sophisticated militaries in the world," he said.
"It is capable of neutralising the threat posed by Hamas while minimising harm to innocent men, women and children," he added.
"It has an obligation to do so,"

At the same time the US is insisting that there cannot be a forced displacement again like was done in the north

So I'm not sure what will happen

Parkingt111 · 01/12/2023 07:00

So it seems the US is finally putting their foot down about the number of civilian deaths being unacceptable

I’ve read UN has also recognised the number of deaths

So it seems the US is finally putting their foot down about the number of civilian deaths being unacceptable

21 people reportedly killed so far, only 2 hours in - and drone attack close to un-named hospital in the south

Wonder if this is an acceptable level of civilian casualties?

And what effective measures were taken to reduce these deaths?

Efacsen · 01/12/2023 07:54

Ah leafleting again! advised to re-locate to Rafah - note 9 people already killed in Rafah this morning

UNICEF complaining about attack 50 metres from one of few remaining hospitals

Unicef spokesman James Elder has reported that an airstrike landed about 50 metres away from the “biggest still functioning hospital in Gaza.”

“This hospital simply cannot take more children with the wounds of war,” he says in a video posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. He pans briefly to children asleep on the floor of a hospital room. Elder is the chief of communications for the United Nation’s Children’s Fund. His post was accompanied with the caption “Has humanity given up on the children of Gaza?”

“I cannot overstate how the capacity has been reduced in hospitals over the last seven weeks. We cannot see more children with the wounds of war, with the burns, the shrapnel litering their body, with their broken bones. Inaction from those with influence is allowing the killing of children. This is a war on children.

Doesn't say which hospital

'Netanyahu’s government has come under increasing pressure, however, to account for how it will protect civilians in the territory, which is under blockade with no way for people to escape.

Blinken said that any resumed military operation by Israel “must put in place humanitarian civilian protection plans that minimise further casualties of innocent Palestinians”.

Israeli military officials are believed to have suggested a variety of plans, ranging from moving hundreds of thousands of people on to Gaza’s coast or back to the now almost deserted northern part of Gaza. None have been seen as either acceptable or practicable by international interlocutors'

I feel that the death toll will rise. Feel very sad for the people of Gaza who are trapped..where can they go.

stormy4319trevor · 01/12/2023 13:45

@Rachna83 There's a plan for the people in the South to use a website via a QR code which will tell them where is being bombed next. @Efacsen has the info on their thread. Not sure how to link but it's called Mainly about Al-Shifa. I'm doubtful this is going to work, but apparently it's the Israeli side response to Biden's requests for less civilian deaths.

Yes I've read about the district's and codes. Must be awful to have come from north to the south and now this. I saw a post from someone I follow who has her bags packed with essentials but not knowing if she will have time to take anything with her or even where they will go.
