@Rachna83 and @Readingallnight Should use my posts more wisely. I'm easily side tracked but I'm going to really focus just on what's relevant to the thread from now on.

A 14-year-old Palestinian who was released by Israel today said he witnessed beatings while he was detained in an Israeli prison.
Ahmad Salayme embraces his mother upon his arrival at home in east Jerusalem
The first day of the war there were a number of beatings, female inmates were beaten. He said he had been told not to celebrate upon his release from prison, and that he was not allowed to leave his house, raise any banners or use a megaphone, “If I break any of these rules I will be taken back,” he said.
He added:
We are very happy but our happiness is incomplete because we mourn those who are lost, those who are wounded and those who are missing.

Parkingt111 · 28/11/2023 23:08

I have now seen a number of prisoners who have been released say very similar that they were treated much more harshly and at times even beaten, deprived of food etc after the war started
It seems the anger of what happened on the 7th of October was taken out on them

Rachna83 · 28/11/2023 23:09

That's so sad to read. I do wonder what is there to stop all the freed Palestinians from just being arrested again. I would have thought a caveat of sorts would have been in the agreement?

stormy4319trevor · 28/11/2023 23:13

@Parkingt111 I saw Ahmad Salayme earlier being released. I think he said he heard the women being beaten in the cell next door. He looked to me like he had a bruise on the right side of his face, but hard to be sure I suppose. He looked absolutely terrified and traumatised, I must say.

@stormy4319trevor yes he did
It's very upsetting to think what they have been through and the sheer number of children who are charged without trial

stormy4319trevor · 28/11/2023 23:17

@Rachna83 I don't know about re-arrests, but there's been a surge in arrests generally - from the G:
More than 3,290 Palestinians have been arrested in the occupied West Bank since 7 October, according to figures by the Palestinian Prisoner’s Club.
The list includes 125 women and 145 children, a statement said.
At least six Palestinian detainees have died in Israeli prisons since the conflict started, it said.
Israeli forces have arrested 168 Palestinians during the duration of the ongoing temporary truce alone, it added.

Ahed Tamimi was beaten her first night in prison. It was reported to her family by a lawyer that was visiting the inmate next to Ahmed’s cell.

stormy4319trevor · 28/11/2023 23:20

I am afraid she will be treated particularly badly because of her fame and popularity. It does sound as if female prisoners are being physically abused more.

I remembered this from the 2011 prisoner swap
Article from the guardian regarding re arrests.
There are no guarantees and especially worrying for all those being returned to the West Bank at the moment.
One source noted dozens have been re arrested.

Parkingt111 · 29/11/2023 13:13

Just seen that the US is pushing for the truce to be extended

Rachna83 · 29/11/2023 20:38

Just come back from a local vigil on Palestine solidarity day. They spoke about a lot of the things that we have mentioned on this thread. There were 2 Palestinian speakers with family in Gaza. They spoke of how we are seeing lovely pictures of the Israeli families reunited with their loved ones but the same can't be said of the Palestinian side. They are being threatened not to speak or to celebrate. This is to censor and prevent media coverage. They don't want the world to see their horrific system of arrest and treatment of the Palestinians.

Rachna83 · 29/11/2023 20:40

They had pictures of children killed since October 7. I've attached some but it's important to remember that they had families, dreams and aspirations too.

Thank you so much @Rachna83 The vigil sounds lovely. I do feel the apartheid in media coverage.

Rachna83 · 29/11/2023 21:05

Yes @stormy4319trevor it's so important to see the humans behind the numbers and to try and see their story and life. This is exactly what is being censored because it doesn't fit the narrative.

Thank you for sharing this
It is so disheartening to see
So many innocent lives loss for something they had no part in

Parkingt111 · 29/11/2023 21:47

There will be 30 palestinians released today
From there 16 will be aged under 18 and 14 are women

Parkingt111 · 29/11/2023 21:51

Sky is reporting that Qatar is hopeful that the truce will be extended
So maybe talks are still ongoing

stormy4319trevor · 29/11/2023 23:34

There is only a few hours to go. I hope the truce will be extended,

Temporary ceasefire renewed for a further 24 hours at literally the 11th hour - 30 mins or so before due to expire

Hamas sent a list of '7 women and children and 3 bodies' which Israel has variously been described as refusing/not saying if they will accept. No mention of detainees yet. Israel has just announced it has a list of 10 women and children

Another nail-biting day for all the families involved

Efacsen · 30/11/2023 08:41

Seems to be a bit of ceasefire-challenging stuff going on in Khan Younis but only being reported by Al Jazeera ATM so usual caveats - though they've been correct about previous potential breeches

Seems more fragile than ever this morning - people in gaza are very frightened
