Sorry getting over-excited and reading BBC headline wrong

No extras i'm afraid

Thanks.
For a tiny moment I wondered if the previously released and since re arrested had been let go too.
At least it’s all going ahead despite earlier worries.

Readingallnight · 28/11/2023 19:49

Due to misinformation and the avoidance of doubt and because I also assumed this Muslim phrase was hate speech ( I’m not Muslim so I trusted the UK news )
This from The Department of Linguistics at the University of Colorado
it is quite relevant to todays news

I don't know where else to watch, so looked at AJ English. There's a 14 year old boy being released. Poor kid looks like he's been through hell.

I think the side of his face is bruised.

@Readingallnight yes thank you for that. All it means is God is great and its a part of all the 5 daily prayers
It's unfortunately been used by some terrorists who have twisted the use of the word to justify their actions

If you look at the videos of the Palestinians who are freed you will see similar. Shouting clapping and using the same phrases. It's a very cultural thing in that part of the region as a form of celebration

Readingallnight · 28/11/2023 20:10

Palestinians to be released

15 women all of whom have been arrested since October 7th !!! ( assuming these are all adults as there’s no detailed information )
and 15 children
are to be released.

No idea of names or anything. No one, it seems, is reporting…or
maybe their names haven’t been made public….or
no one can be bothered…or
the information is being withheld
if so that’s very sad indeed.

Parkingt111 · 28/11/2023 20:11

@Readingallnight I have read one of them is a journalist
I will see if I can find it

Parkingt111 · 28/11/2023 20:13

Like the Qatari foreign minister, the advocacy organisation reports that 15 of the group are women and the same number are children.
On the list is Marwat al-Azza, a freelance journalist who has previously worked with American broadcaster NBC. The network cut ties with al-Azza following her arrest relating to social media posts about the 7 October attack.

stormy4319trevor · 28/11/2023 20:13

Well, AJ English is all I can find. This 14 year old looks really terrified and traumatised.

Yes thanks
Thats really why I thought I’d look it up
It was being shouted when the Israelis were being released but also when the Palestinians were…which I thought was bizarre.
It just goes to show how misunderstanding due to propaganda here in the U.K. and elsewhere can leave so many people to judge wrongly.
Im glad I know now.

Pennina · 28/11/2023 20:21

Genuine question, why were they shouting that as they murdered the Israelis in October, and dragged bloodstained women out of the back of jeeps? is it due to the hijacking of the phrase by the terrorists?

Sorry just saw PP clarified that it had been hijacked. Apologies for the derail.

The 14 year olds family are being victimised whilst they wait for his release.
They must be terrified hiding in their home and worried about being raided whilst the IDF stand outside.
Shame on them for terrorising the family aswell

Parkingt111 · 28/11/2023 20:26

@Pennina hello I'm glad you asked
if they were then yes unfortunately it would be for that.
The literal meaning of the phrase is 'God Is great'

It's meant to be used as praise. So not exactly the same but perhaps similar to Hallelujah

stormy4319trevor · 28/11/2023 20:35

@Readingallnight I think their house was raided a few times today to make sure they weren't preparing celebrations.

Just catching up on the posts. Sad that the families are not able to celebrate but I guess it's another form of control and intimidation.
'One of the Palestinian children released from an Israeli prison has told Al Jazeera he was beaten by Israeli guards last week and his hand and finger were broken. Mohammed Nazzal, a teenager originally from Jenin, said he was given no treatment in the prison in the Negev desert despite his injuries and had only had his arm put in a sling by the Red Cross after he was released'
Been seeing this in my social media feed today. At least the guardian are now calling them children and detainees.

stormy4319trevor · 28/11/2023 21:00

@Rachna83 Many thanks. I had not heard about this child. There is so little information. I watched a little bit of AJ live and was very shocked by the appearance of the 14 year old. I've never seen a child's face look like that. I'm sorry I didn't get his name. It's good to see a change in language from the G. They may report a bit later as well.

I really hope they release Ahmed Manasra. I have been really saddened to read his story.
'Ahmad Manasra was arrested on 12 October 2015 in relation to the stabbing and injury of two Israeli citizens in Pisgat Zeev, an illegal Israeli settlement in occupied East Jerusalem. Despite being found by the courts not to have participated in the stabbings, he was convicted of attempted murder in 2016 in proceedings marred by allegations of torture, and despite the fact that he was below the minimum age of criminal responsibility at the time'

Israel/ OPT: Palestinian prisoner arrested as a child, Ahmad Manasra, still in prison despite worsening mental health

Israeli authorities must immediately release Ahmad Manasra, a 20-year-old Palestinian man who has developed serious mental health problems since his arrest as a child seven years ago, Amnesty International said today. On Sunday 19 June a parole board w...

One of the stabbing victims was 13. Didn't they have cctv footage? Or am I wrong?

Rachna83 · 28/11/2023 21:32

He was below the minimum age of criminal responsibility at the time so should not have been imprisones. Courts found he had not participated in the attack. His case has been plagued with torture, abuse and is quite distressing.

Rachna83 · 28/11/2023 21:36

'Ahmad Manasra was 13 years old when he was arrested in 2015 in relation to the stabbing and injury of two people in Pisgat Zeev, an Israeli settlement in East Jerusalem. At the time, Israel’s Youth Law did not allow imprisonment under the age of 14, and the court proceedings were delayed until he had reached 14 years of age.'
'Despite being found by the courts not to have participated in the stabbings, he was convicted of attempted murder in 2016 and sentenced to 12 years in prison, which the Supreme Court reduced to nine and a half years in August 2017.'

stormy4319trevor · 28/11/2023 21:44

I don't know much about the case, but if he didn't participate in the stabbings I wonder how he could be convicted of attempted murder. It's a strange justice system. The whole lack of proper legal procedure sounds like a travesty.

OP posts:
Rachna83 · 28/11/2023 21:47

Yes its the lack of due process and the horrific ill treatment. If there is a fair legal process that applies to both Israelis and Palestinians that would be different but the more you read it is quite eye opening.

He was found in the courts not to be involved.
Please have some respect for these victims in Israeli jails

What sort of ‘adults’ beat up children
Can we even imagine the mindset of these animals because I am really struggling with this
