What is the deal with the violence in West Bank ?

why does a mentally disabled child throwing stones deserve to be shot from 150 metres away ? The stones couldn’t have even reached them? They can’t possibly be fearing him, he is by himself, they are tons of them and they have cars and guns. How is this justifiable to all these people going on and on supporting a country where these things go on. How is this a country the west considers a democratic ally? How do these values reflect the values of the west?

I understand the outrage of parents wanting the hostages back but Fouads parents will never ever have him back.

A drone is sent close to a Palestinian family’s house with a threat

https://twitter.com/JalalAK_jojo/status/1731055472843608284

The whole message is worse than the small part quoted underneath the video. I'm sure they threatened their children too, from what I could make out.

Another Palestinian village destroyed, no doubt a settlement will appear.

"They want the land, but without Palestinians" says ex IDF soldier

Settlers and yet more violence that even the IDF is afraid to tackle. 😔

From The Guardian today:

Sanctions against Israeli settlers involved in attacking people and property in the West Bank will be discussed by EU foreign ministers at a summit in Brussels on Monday.
The US is already working on a list of names, including extremists known to the authorities in Israel and of those who disseminate.
Similar moves in the EU would require agreement of all members of the Schengen area, and diplomats say work has just begun.
The state secretary, Antony Blinken, said this week the US would be “implementing a new visa restriction policy targeting individuals believed to have been involved in undermining peace, security, or stability in the West Bank, including through committing acts of violence or taking other actions that unduly restrict civilians’ access to essential services and basic necessities. Immediate family members of such persons also may be subject to these restrictions.”
The EU cannot replicate the US system if it so wished as there is visa-free travel between Israel and the bloc.
But sources suggest one way around it would be use the US list as the basis of restrictions.

I've just seen this video which says it's the aftermath of an Israeli air strike in the West Bank. Watch with caution.

Is this correct? Are they bombing the West Bank aswell?

No they aren't bombing the West Bank. Raids, yes. Not airstrikes.

Edited to add - looks like it might have been a drone strike, in Jenin.

Parkingt111 · 12/12/2023 11:21

@SomeCatFromJapan there has been atleast one recorded air strike from what I read in the west bank
I'm not sure if the one @Toothyfruity posted is but there definitely has been

Edited

What do the drones drop if not bombs?

SomeCatFromJapan · 12/12/2023 11:31

Yes that is why I edited my original response and stated that I had done so?

That looks terrible 😔

Toothyfruity · 12/12/2023 11:37

What's the justification for bombing the West Bank? I've seen footage them blocking the roads and denying ambulances access to hospitals too. A man carrying his dying little boy down the road while IDF soldiers stand around doing nothing.

Have they explained what they're doing? Not that it's explainable but surely they have some bullshit excuse for it?

SomeCatFromJapan · 12/12/2023 11:41

No official statement as yet from the Israelis.

Parkingt111 · 12/12/2023 11:46

@Toothyfruity regarding the ambulances being blocked I have seen multiple instances of this. The PRCS have even posted up footage of their ambulances being blocked by the IDF.

Doctors and medics in the west bank have said that they have seen a shift in the nature of injuries caused by the IDF snipers. Before it was more towards the legs but after the war it has mostly been towards the torso/head and more likely to lead to fatalities

Parkingt111 · 12/12/2023 12:24

@Toothyfruity the child Ahmad has now reportedly passed away. Another innocent life lost

Depraved. The total lack of humanity is hard to get your head around. It's very depressing.

SomeCatFromJapan · 12/12/2023 14:58

@Toothyfruity here you go - IDF is saying a drone strike against men throwing explosives at troops.

https://twitter.com/manniefabian/status/1734563427136200905

It's okay if you want to respond by saying the IDF are lying, just thought I should post an update since I saw it.

I don't know if they're lying or not. The video shows what looks like a man throwing something, no explosion from it, but who knows.

I can't watch the video again to check because it's so violent.

Seeing people directly bombed like that - it's hard to watch. I'm old enough to remember the UK being widely criticised for shooting IRA members to kill. Bloody hell. Now bombing people to pieces without asking any questions is considered OK.

SomeCatFromJapan · 12/12/2023 17:26

Yes I don't know either. Both sides say something different and there's no way to tell short of being actually present.

Watching the footage, it could be an explosive device or it could be a rock. If it was the former, the response is I suppose proportionate, if it was the latter then clearly not.

BabaBarrio · 12/12/2023 17:36

@Toothyfruity
Yes, the shoot to kill is standard practice.

Remember the bus stop shooting in Jerusalem? Turns out a former policeman Yuval Castleman saw the attack unfolding on his way to work, pulled over, jumped out his car and shot and killed the two Hamas terrorists. Didn’t even attempt to try and arrest them or hold them there until IDF arrived. IDF arrives, and what do they do? They shoot Yuval Castleman. Wounded, he tosses his ID card and starts shouting in Hebrew that he is a Jew and an Israeli and not Hamas. IDF responds by shooting him in the head. Then it was tried to be covered up but Yuval’s father and enough Israelis protested such that there is now going to be an investigation.

IDF spokespeople are naturally saying oh no we don’t train our soldiers to just shoot to kill, that’s totally not normal. Which is odd because IDF have been shooting to kill for decades when they think the person is Palestinian. There was that British student and aid volunteer, Tom Hurndell, shot by IDF in 2003 while helping children cross the road years ago.

ChickHenLittle · 12/12/2023 18:36

The IDF have very little regard for life, it seems. I knew they generally don't care for Palestinian life, but reading about Tom Hurdall and Yuval Castleman, there is a lot of recklessness and lack of care for others. They do seem very keen to shoot/kill first, ask questions later.

Parkingt111 · 12/12/2023 18:39

@ChickHenLittle yes I have been told generally when it comes to dealing with the Palestinians the default is guilty unless proven innocent and not the other way round
Which is why there are so many deaths and injuries
