Ah yes . The notoriously unbiased Al Jazeera...

Might as well be Hamas putting out those figures.

US spokesman said last week that published figures were likely an under-estimate

If you want to see more than Al Jazeerah reporting it's maybe a good idea to stop targetting reporters

TodayInahurry · 14/11/2023 07:57

I don’t actually believe this.

Paulrn · 14/11/2023 08:39

The killing of innocent people is awful on both sides however it is clear to me that This site is being used extensively in the cyber and disinformation information war and Hamas are winning that hands down. Please do not take these random posts and spurious links as the truth.

ssd · 14/11/2023 08:39

I guess its easier putting your head in the sand than facing the truth.

Parkingt111 · 14/11/2023 08:45

@BeggyMitchell well what's your estimate then? How many people do you think have been killed?
Atleast give the dead have some dignity.
Extremely disrespectful

If you had any empathy and still disagreed you would have worded that very differently

Is this your way of questioning the number of people killed so far with total impunity by Israel? Try harder.

That's the problem, it is circular but very few people think (as Israel is purporting) that it began on Oct 7th. News reporting, social media etc have highlighted the oppression that Palestinians have been facing for decades. Honestly speaking, I think this takes some of the 'tragedy' element of Oct 7th off for many people. You don't kill, torture and purposely humiliate a population over decades and then get much sympathy when they retaliate. The "security measures" rhetoric is failing fast, and the government have done themselves no favour in speaking the way they have. There are more people listening now than ever before. I can't imagine when this is going to end 😭

Thar argument only works if you genuinely believe that oct 7 was a 'retaliation' (not a pogrom), or if you genuinely believe that Israël hasn't faced a real security threatened over the decades, or if you genuinely believe that it was just lovely for Jewish people living in Palestine before they had their own state, or if you genuinely believe that antisemitism began and ended with the Holocaust. If you take the rose tinted spectacles off, however ...

TodayInahurry · 14/11/2023 07:57

I don’t actually believe this.

You don't believe what?
Hopefully you meant that you are so horrified by the number of innocent people killed mercilessly by Israel that your mind can't comprehend it.

Probably. I was even told here on Mumsnet after quoting some prominent individuals, who happen to be Jewish, condemning Israel and speaking out against the genocide that they were antisemites!

I never really consider this due to why would people care about what mumsnet people are saying, but after reading some replies to this. Surely some of the posters on this are not actually real people and just bots. Like I know we not allowed to troll hunt but a bot and a troll can be different things. Surely someone reading a statment to say highest number of children killed. And their first reaction is 'there are too many post about this and its to guilt trip'like who thinks like that. Some posts on my thread about children just seems so far off a regular human would think first. I definitely think there is an Internet war too. 🤔

Israels greatest allies the UK and US have expressed concern at the alarming casualty rate. Whereas many on here are still denying the number of deaths and are attempting to justify it, or downplay the horrors

over the last few days appeals to Israel to exercise restraint have been stepped up, with US President Joe Biden and UK PM Rishi Sunak both pushing for greater protections of Palestinian hospitals and civilians.
Biden told reporters at the White House yesterday that he hoped for less intrusive action around Al-Shifa, saying that Gaza City's largest hospital must be protected.
Meanwhile, Sunak last night spoke of the "terrible suffering" of Palestinians in Gaza, saying too many civilians are dying. He also called for pauses in the fighting.

Here we go again. Are there not enough threads already on this issue? They all become echo chambers for people who have a very specific viewpoint. Ive stopped bothering to read them

You're reading this one, though. Why bother if it irritates you so much?

He's got a bloody cheek, we won't forget him standing shoulder to shoulder with Netanyahu saying we hope you win. And the US has given Israel $$$ for bloody weapons.

Sorry it just makes my blood boil, the hypocrisy of our "leaders"

The sheet OBSESSION with this conflict on Mumsnet is staggering. There are other wars happening; other countries ejecting refugees and killing people. Why is this one being pored over with such glee?

Utter rot. I’m an atheist, I don’t hate anyone of any religion because they’re all equally nonsensical to me but each to their own. Like most people, though, I feel distress when I see pictures of blood covered, maimed children on my screen every day as I felt distress when I saw the terrible reports of 7th October.
Feeling empathy with people does not equate to anti-semitism.

I do hope they 'win' in the sense of getting rid of Hamas. It would be pretty awful if after all this Hamas are still in power! I don't hope they 'win' in the sense of killing thousands more in Gaza, and I'm sure that's not what the PM envisaged at the beginning of the conflict either!

Yes I do believe Hamas and resultant attacks are the result of decades of oppression, violence, murder of Palestinian people. Neither Israel nor Hamas are right, but from a epistiological view of terrorism, the creation of Hamas is not in any way unsurprising.
