Conflict in the Middle East

To think Israel won't exist much longer?

Support in the west is declining, and when Israel doesn't have weapons and defense funding they won't be able to defend against their neighbouring countries on their own. AIBU to wonder how much longer it can exist given they are losing support?

You're kind of right. Eradicating indigenous populations is a western government specialty.

Indigenous populations indeed.
....

If making that ridiculous argument, you might want to look at who was there first !

@calyrex Avigail is on many platforms though? And her story is the same, she's been advocating for peace for decades so I don't understand your hesitation
It's not like she's got a gun to her head when talking about this.

But you could also quote/share "Son of Hamas", urging us to back Israel against the danger of his own father's Hamas... We could go on for ever with this tit-for-tat social media point scoring.

You really couldn't go on forever, you'd be very hard pressed to find more than a few Palestinians that would call for a backing of Israel. On the other hand, the amount of Jewish people standing against Israel is growing. Jewish Voice for Peace said approx 40% of young Jews in America believe that Israel is an apartheid state.

Unacceptable and offensive rhetoric about palestinians by the Israeli government.
About time the western governments started calling it out
Many of the right wing in the Israeli government makes the likes of Farage seem almost angelic

What is the rhetoric you are describing.

Also - which western governments are calling this "rhetoric" out?

Your screenshot is about a party in opposition - not our Government who has certainly not called Israel out for any "rhetoric."

You can read the full article in the guardian if you want
I'm assuming you don't know much about Itamir ben gvir and his inflammatory comments
And it's not just the UK, even Biden is seriously annoyed

I don't want. Thank you for the invitation.
I repeat , the UK Govt has not" called Israel out" - you said "And it's not just the UK." I live in the UK and the conservative government is in power.

And I'll be sure to give Joe a call to ask he is seriously annoyed or just annoyed.

HoldOnMiGenna · 07/11/2023 12:27

Why are the words " right wing" used as a perjorative vis a vis the Israeli government and even Nigel Farage, but the cultural, religious and political Right Wing nature of EVERY other country in the Middle East is not talked about perjoratively by those who pointedly subscribe "right wing" to the Israeli government?
And the right wing nature of Hamas makes the Israeli Government look like Jimmy Carter's Democratic government .
Considering the environment, it is Israel that has been very late to the hard Right Wing party and even then, Israel isn't culturally and socially right wing, so she still has some way to go in order to catch up to the countries that surround her.

Eh, are you aware there are Jewish people outside of Israel? 🙄 The post specifically said America.

Are you referring to the people of Canaan, who Palestinians have strong genetic links with?

https://www.researchgate.net/publication/11802415_HLA_Genes_in_Palestinians_The_Origin_of_Palestinians_and_Their_Genetic_Relatedness_With_Other_Mediterranean_Populations

A lot of them were likely Jewish before converting to Christianity under Christian rule and/or converting to Islam during Muslim rule.

You can read more about them here (for lack of a more easily accessible website):

People don’t know/pretend not to know what ‘right wing’ means.

They seem to think it’s synonymous with white nationalism or something.

Parkingt111 · 21/11/2023 07:42

It would also be interesting to know that if he no longer serves as prime minister then who would be the best candidate to take over?
Who would further a two state solution?

Stomacharmeleon · 21/11/2023 14:31

@Parkingt111 you surely don't agree with the title of this thread?

Parkingt111 · 21/11/2023 14:34

@Stomacharmeleon the thread title is misleading in a sense. If you read the OP's later posts they clarify that they themselves are Jewish and what they meant in terms of what affects the war would have on Israel in the long term but I do see if that's what they meant it's not the best choice of words

For those interested this is a article in the guardian today which discusses the 16 years of Netanyahu in power and how his policies, attitude and corruption contributed in the mess we are seeing today

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/nov/21/the-netanyahu-doctrine-how-israels-longest-serving-leader-reshaped-the-country-in-his-image

It's a pure opinion piece and Israel has aright to defend itself and it is Hamas who won't release the hostages and continue to make their people disposable.

Just release the hostages and let your people get out of harm's way.

Israel is going to be around for a long long time.

whatswrongwiththeworldddd · 21/11/2023 17:05

@Jupitersstorm Israel refused to accept the hostages Hamas tried to release before didn't they.

Xenia · 21/11/2023 17:08

Lots of deletions above
. Israel will have a long life. There are 67m of us in the UK and many support Israel as does the UK state, as does the US state. Israel is not going away, but hopefully Hamas is.

Along with Netanyahu and his far right Government hopefully.

Yes.
Lets hope the new plans aren’t scuppered. I understand the Israeli Govn started meetings at 4pm today on this and their next strategies.
