Justifying the rape of women

Something I keep coming back to.. for the people whose sympathies lie with the Palestinians and think an eye for an eye and that Hamas have been pushed to act the way they have, how do you justify the brutal rape of women by Hamas?

Gaza hasn't had elections for years but, again, how do you deal with that in practical terms? Never go to war against any country that isn't a free and fair democracy? Every country led by despots and gangsters gets a free pass to do whatever it likes and you can't respond because nobody voted for them? Nevertheless, Hamas aren't some rogue terrorist group within Gaza, liable to be prosecuted by the Palestinian authorities if they can catch them. They are the government. They have billions, they have allies, they have thousands of trained fighters, they have infrastructure (the infrastructure they essentially robbed from their own citizens).

I don’t know how many times this needs to be repeated here but Gaza is not a country. Gaza is a tiny strip of land with a security perimeter built around it by Israel where millions of Palestinians, forced from their homes by Israel decades ago, are now effectively held prisoner. Israel controls what goes in and out - as demonstrated by their current war crimes of withholding food, fuel, water and medicine. They are not allowed to use their port. They are not allowed to have an airport. Palestinians in Gaza can’t leave without permission from Israel, which is often denied. language matters. stop talking about Israel being at ‘war’ with Gaza. what’s happening is a genocide against the people forced to live in Gaza. One side is a nuclear state, the other side is 48% children under the age of 18.

and since when is it acceptable to collectively starve and dehydrate people for the acts of their government ? Should the US and the UK civilian populations have been carpet bombed and starved for the illegal invasion of Iraq ?

Op can you point at me at one comment exactly where a poster has
“how do they justify brutally raping them first? “ ? Cuz I’ve not seen a single comment justifying it.

Btw Israel idfs have raped Palestinian women as well

https://www.dailysabah.com/world/mid-east/deceased-israeli-soldier-boasted-about-raping-palestinian-woman/amp

https://www.timesofisrael.com/ending-censorship-idf-admits-officer-jailed-in-2017-raped-a-palestinian-woman/amp/

so in my case , I’m horrified by both scenarios

The difference here is that the IDF soldier who raped a Palestinian woman (absolutely disgusting) was imprisoned for his crime. I don't see that happening to anyone from
Hamas.

I feel the 'Allahu akbar' has been associated with jihadists and it has been misunderstood. It literally means 'God is great' and I've heard it used in a wide variety of contexts - men carrying really heavy stuff, women in labour and even on TV you can see men digging dead bodies out of the rubble saying it.

Or crowds of angry men swarming through a fence to rape, maim and kill, as in the video.

@Itsaharddlife Why were you quick to show disgust at pro Palestinians supposedly celebrating but when I point out Israelis do the same you don't seem to hold the same level of disgust?
Because I haven't seen them do it publicly, en masse, in the streets of cities?

Private celebrations are understandable, on both sides, but these huge demonstrations...?

Admittedly I'm not watching TV news etc so I might have missed something.

I think the pervading narrative of "This is Gazans fault" makes it easer to justify the genocide. I guess it's not any different from those who justified the holocaust, Bosnian genocide, Iraq war, Rwandan genocide, bengal famine, amritsar massacre.... All these threads going in circles just saying the same thing - they did it to themselves, while Israel, the moral army and supreme democracy, was giving them all they needed. Maybe it must makes it easier for all the posters to sleep in their beds at night.

How is protesting against genocide and coming to streets in tears at a generation of children being killed... celebrating?

I'd much rather celebrate all the kids in the world going to sleep in their beds at night feeling warm and loved by their parents.

@Desertrose2023 and @Dinkydaisy1 your blatant anti- semitism is showing again, like it has on other threads. I am glad you find it funny that the lies posted in the media about that hospital bombing led to yet another increase in anti - semitism around the world. Shame on you.

Itsaharddlife · 25/10/2023 23:11

"Private celebrations are understandable, on both sides, but these huge demonstrations...?"

Wtf! Private celebrations are understandable??? Celebrating deaths and cheering and clapping at deaths of children is understandable as long as no one see? Wow! I honestly have no words I don't know whether to laugh at this or not. I think if anything you proved my earlier point. Thanks

Another example how rape is unfortunately not new to Israels war against the Palestinians.

I guess Israel (and its supporters) are just better at hiding it

Wtf! Private celebrations are understandable???

Oops, silly me. Of course, in private, both Gazan and Israeli brutalized victims shed a tear when bad things happen to the other side.

Itsaharddlife · 25/10/2023 23:17

I'm not arguing that both sides celebrate I'm just shocked you think israelis celebrating is understandable (your words not mine) yet Palestinians doing it isn't. Why can't they both be sick?

Bigminnie1 · 25/10/2023 23:18

@Dinkydaisy1 I pulled you up on another thread already and here you said yourself you found it so funny about what theOnion published.

SadTimes96 · 25/10/2023 23:20

I think the problem is that Israel does discredit itself often. Like the fake intercepted Hamas call and fake report of 40 babies being beheaded. These claims were widely deemed as being fake.

Many people are waiting for investigations into evidence before commenting. Channel 4 Fact check has said the evidence for these accusations is still emerging. I will wait for the fact check first.

Itsaharddlife · 25/10/2023 23:23

"I pulled you up on another thread already and here you said yourself you found it so funny about what theOnion published."

I just read the article on the Onion, I'm a bit confused what was antisemitic about it?
Genuinely interested if you could help me understand

Bigminnie1 · 25/10/2023 23:18

@Dinkydaisy1 I pulled you up on another thread already and here you said yourself you found it so funny about what theOnion published.

It was pulling up a sad reality - the Israeli govt has, on a number of occasions, blamed Palestinians for attacks whuch were then proven to be done by IDF themselves - murder of the journalist Shireen Abu Akleh being a case in point. Murdered while wearing a press vest and helmet, Israel denied responsibility and blamed all other parties, then accepted responsibility when the proof was clear, and still attacked her Funeral, causing her coffin to be dropped.

So yes, a headline pointing out a penchant for blaming everyone else, is a sad reality.

I'd much rather not laugh at these things because they simply don't exist, but we don't live in that sort of world do we. I'd much rather laugh at silly movies and antics my children play and have a laugh wth strangers in a coffee bar than a headline about open murder being denied.

Bigminnie1 · 25/10/2023 23:29

@Dinkydaisy1
No one is laughing about that. But you think it's ok to laugh at the Onion article. Do you understand that the the immediate decision by many media outlets to put the blame on the IDF with no proof (and it was proven to be Hamas) immediately led to more antisemitism? I think you do understand what you are doing and you really don't give a shit.

JuvenileEmu · 25/10/2023 23:30

Itsaharddlife · 25/10/2023 22:56

"You think Gazans shake their head sadly at the misfortunes of the Israelis? Hmm"

I'm just pointing out neither side holds the moral high ground.
Why were you quick to show disgust at pro Palestinians supposedly celebrating but when I point out Israelis do the same you don't seem to hold the same level of disgust?

But you do think you have the high ground, don't you? You and your fellow travellers. Sure, what Hamas did was awful, but but but ..

I visited Auschwitz a few years ago. It was horrifying, of course, but I guess I could comfort myself that I wouldn't have been on the side of the Nazis. But the past couple of weeks have made me realise that my lovely, left wing, on-the-side-of- the-underdogs friends would have just as capable of shoving Jews into cattle wagons as the Nazis. But but but...

The onion article is upsetting you more than thousands being killed and made homeless and their lives, families, homes, dreams, hopes, destroyed.

Okay.

Itsaharddlife · 25/10/2023 23:34

"But you do think you have the high ground, don't you? You and your fellow travellers. Sure, what Hamas did was awful, but but but .."

Where did I defend/justify hamas? Please show me. I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy. You seem to be confusing me with someone else perhaps?? I didn't claim to have the moral high ground, but I can genuinely whole heartedly say that it pains me to see innocents on either side suffer. Which is more than many of you can say. You just go on ahead and celebrate in private at the state of the world

" I visited Auschwitz a few years ago. It was horrifying, of course, but I guess I could comfort myself that I wouldn't have been on the side of the Nazis"

I wouldn't sit too comfortably at that thought. Give it a few years maybe when the people of Gaza are all dead and everyone has moved on, Israel may decide they committed one of these atrocities (they do admit to them eventually I guess..when people have long forgotten). But then again you're probably sat comfortably in your home knowing the scary nazi children of Gaza are no more

Itsaharddlife · 25/10/2023 23:41

Can someone genuinely point out what was antisemitic about the onion article? I read it and still don't know. It was mocking Israel but is that the equivalent of hating Jews?

Luckily I don't know anyone in real life quite as revoltingly cynical as some posters on Mumsnet- I mean, that Onion article- funny?. I guess it's possible that people I know are thinking such grotesque, anti-semitic things, but I'm hoping it's just an internet thing where the monsters see each other and group together. Hopefully we'll away from normal people.
