Conflict in the Middle East

How effective is Israeli bombing, anyway?

mushti · 25/10/2023 11:47

According to Hamas figures, Israel has dropped 12,000 tonnes of explosives on Gaza. 6000 people have died.

Hamas terrorists killed 1400 Jews with just what they could carry on trucks and motorbikes.

It almost looks like Israel is trying to minimize casualties, doesn't it?

Well, the US has spent billions building the iron dome.

@Struggggggling I was thinking about that this week. I like reading about cults and a lot of the features here are the same. Also when you hear from people who are former Zionists it all sounds extremely cultish. Also hearing the same lies and lines and justifications over and over and over from people all over the world. It's like a script or like politicians from the same party being given the same press lines and parroting them out.

It’s a strategy called Hasbara

you can read all about it here https://mepc.org/speeches/hasbara-and-control-narrative-element-strategy and here

Their aim at the moment will be to destroy buildings. They are going to send in troops to invade shortly. Sending troops into an urban environment is difficult as buildings offer lots of ways to conceal trabs and snipers. They will raise as much of the city to the ground as they can before they send in their troops.

Another one whose husband is an expert. Well if you bomb every building in a block on a individual basis, you still bomb a block. Look at the photos! Unless you think those have been photoshopped by Hamas.🙄Jesus wept!

Auvergne63.

You really couldn’t make it up. 🙈.

Whole areas being destroyed and we have an armourers wife saying precision bombing is only taking out individual buildings. Im embarrassed for her. That she didn’t understand even if it was precision bombing going on 40 targeted attacks would indeed take out a city block.

And her husband could tell immediately who’d bombed the hospital etc? In that case I think the Israelis need to employ him because even they couldn’t tell for a long time who had bombed what.

miniegg3 · 25/10/2023 20:07

BorgQueen · 25/10/2023 17:19

Unlike the armchair munitions ‘experts’ on here 🙄, my DH actually built bombs for a living as a RAF armourer and worked in bomb disposal in the RAF and as a civvie.
Israel are performing precision strikes, taking down individual buildings, not city blocks. He could tell immediately that Israel hadn’t bombed that hospital or the refugee convoy heading South.
Why would anyone believe the casualty figures coming from Hamas anyway?

Exactly 👍

immigrant002 · 25/10/2023 20:09

The world can see it! Their aim is to obliterate palestinians
They do not care about hostages they refused to receive them.
They threaten UN they act above the lea and they get angry whenever someone dares to mention palestinian civilians
Is so easy to see through their lies and the only argument is but hamas ...

Toothyfruity · 25/10/2023 20:12

Look up hasbara. Lots of great academic articles about it but you need a login to access them. Long story short it is the method by which Israel aim to control narrative and restrict demand for credible information in order to bolster support and whitewash their crimes. So that 'script' you are referring to is very carefully produced, and as you said repeated time and time again until messages become internalised. I just came across an article about how hasbara was deeply rooted in the early Zionist movement, which makes a lot of sense.

They fled their home and the strike hit them in the camp.

Family of Al Jazeera journalist killed in Israeli air strike

The family of an Al Jazeera journalist in Gaza have been killed in an Israeli air strikes, the news network has said.
Wael al-Dahdouh's wife, son and daughter were killed in the attack, which the Hamas-led health ministry for the region killed at least 25 people.
Al Jazeera said the strike hit the area where Mr al-Dahdouh's family had fled to following an Israeli warning.
"Their home was targeted in the Nuseirat camp in the centre of Gaza, where they had sought refuge after being displaced by the initial bombardment in their neighbourhood, following Prime Minister Netanyahu's call for all civilians to move south," it said in a statement.
Other members of Mr al-Dahdouh's family were buried under the rubble, it added.
The network broadcast live footage of him crying as he saw family members laying lifeless in hospital.
"The network strongly condemns the indiscriminate targeting and killing of innocent civilians in Gaza, which has led to the loss of Wael Al-Dahdouh's family and countless others," the network added.

queenofarles · 25/10/2023 20:39

It’s patently clear that Israel’s intent is not to kill Palestinian civilians.

I can’t even begin to express the anger I felt reading this , what sort of heartless human thinks like this.
Just now An Aljazerah journalist lost all his family his wife and two kids , that’s more than 400 deaths in the last 24 hours alone .

everyday I think it can’t get any worse and some how it does , so no I don’t agree with you , I don’t think Israel is doing a sterling job at minimising death of civilians .

I think I am going to stop commenting on these threads because I cannot comprehend how people can defend the genocide of Palestinians. If they are not killed by bombs, they are trapped under rubble, starved and much more. All this because of, well, Hamas. Before some of you start calling me pro Hamas and anti semitic, the Zionist government is creating the monsters they so wish to destroy in Gaza.

Thank you for sharing this. I’ve just watched the video of this poor man carrying his dead baby and kissing his son goodbye. I can’t even begin to imagine his devastation.

Israel intentionally targets journalists, we’ve seen that more clearly than ever in recent days.

what burns me is the lack of solidarity by other journalists in the western media for their colleagues.

Sorry would you mind posting that evidence please.

I'm currently on mobile, though if you look for the cardinal's briefing on the warnings they got on YouTube, you can find his testimony about the IDF warnings.

Also, days later Al Quds was targeted. It's not a large stretch to say that the air force that has already targeted and bombed hospitals did so in this instance, as opposed to a munition Hamas has never once showed evidence of having used.

Now, there are still some oddities such as the use of an airburst when they don't seem to be using that for other strikes of similar targets and lack of fragments. However, the simple fact that you can call into question the official narrative with evidence we do have to hand and with already having a party that has form for such attacks, should make one consider that the intel agencies fully know what went on. They just won't say what happened because it will jeopardise their case.

Of course if an actual video comes out showing said rocket or other evidence, then I will concede on this. On balance, though, I don't buy the IDF claims given they were the jackasses who made out that Shireen Abu Akle was killed by Palestinians, before later saying they did it.

Given that Hamas get voted in every time and cheerfully killed innocent Israel civilians I rather doubt Israeli people worry too much that civilians are being killed in Palestine

But it’s ok for Illegal Israelis settlers to continuously steal the land and homes of Palestinians. It’s ok for IDF to kidnap children daily from Palestinian families and put them in prison. Why are families being targeted and killed in West Bank? What have they done?

Wow. Do you have children? I've seen videos of newborns and small children screaming in the worst possible agony as illegal white phosphorus used by Israhell has rained down on them. And when being treated little kids are having amputated limbs worked on as doctors have run out of medical supplies, denied to them by israel. The ignorance and pure stupidity of people like you.

I wonder how long they can use the hamas card to enact hell on earth

Bombing isn’t as effective as you think when it comes to killing people and the people of Gaza have lived under bombardment for years. They’ll sleep in cellars and under stairs to stay protected. Whilst they aren’t specifically targeting civilians, they aren’t being particularly careful about protecting them either.

The problem the IDF have is that in order to protect civilian life the you’ll have to risk your own troops life.

Bombing isn’t as effective as you think when it comes to killing people

If this is true, it only reinforces my point: the use of bombing is further evidence that Israel's goal isn't to kill people. If that were the country's goal then the IDF would use a more effective method of killing.

Luckily, Israel has the bigger weapons and is clearly not cowed from using them.

War is not a boxing match where you only square up to people your own weight for a "fair fight". When you fight a war, you fight to win. Britain firebombed Dresden. The US dropped two nuclear weapons on Japan. The laws of war have change since then, but the goal hasn't. Israel is being quite restrained.

By the way, the weapons Israel have dropped on Gaza have nearly the same explosive power as the nuclear bomb detonated over Hiroshima, that was about 15 kilotonnes. That killed an estimated 140,000 people. How many dead in Gaza?

OP posts:
Trulywonderful · 26/10/2023 00:16

Bombing unless nuclear or a real big missle is a very unreliable way to kill people in general. What Israel are currently doing is taking out missile lurchers, hamas supplies, weapons storage areas and Hamas leaders homes etc. If Israel go in then the ground assault will mean way more deaths on both sides Killing people with guns granades is much easier and quicker.

If you look at coverage of Ukraine they showed whole building blocks with the front blow off. However the numbers of people that dead were amazingly small for the danger done. That is why Hamas death figures often seem inflated. I can imagine only half the numbers they are saying will be found dead at the end of all this. However that is still thousands of civilian lifes potentially. So a terrible lose and very tragic.

I can’t believe you’re actually attempting to justify the deaths of 2000 children and more than 6000 people in total. What Israel is currently doing is genocide.

if anything the civilian deaths reported are likely to be much lower than the real number. There are estimated to be thousands buried under the rubble.

shame on you.

Notaflippinclue · 26/10/2023 00:31

One death is too many but don't believe the numbers coming from Hamas
