How effective is Israeli bombing, anyway?

mushti · 25/10/2023 11:47

According to Hamas figures, Israel has dropped 12,000 tonnes of explosives on Gaza. 6000 people have died.

Hamas terrorists killed 1400 Jews with just what they could carry on trucks and motorbikes.

It almost looks like Israel is trying to minimize casualties, doesn't it?

Those evil evil people. They literally put out that statement about Hamas being in hospitals minutes before the Internet was cut and the heavy bombing started. Nobody can report from inside Gaza. By the time they can again it will be too late
They are telling the world we are going to bomb the hospitals and this is our excuse

I'm sure we all feel helpless in our useless leaders doing less than nothing, but in fact supporting these acts.
I can only hope that it's sooner rather than later that the world condemns these acts, and that Netanyahu and his government are tried for war crimes. Despicable beyond words. Really, I don't know any words strong enough to display my disgust and condemnation for these barbaric actions.

It’s being reported that the internet has been cut in Gaza.

There’s a blackout and heavy bombing.

God save them.

It’s true. I live in the Middle East and the Pictures we’re currently seeing are horrendous.

In a hypothetical situation If there was a Hamas member in a hospital, full of hundreds of injured patients, medical staff and thousands of civilians taking refuge. Would you give the go ahead to bomb the hospital?
If the trigger was in your hand would you do it?

No I wouldn't. We're not talking about one of course, but potentially far, far more but I wouldn't bomb a hospital with patients in it.

Israel have just said that one of the largest running hospitals I'm gaza no longer come under the protection of international law and have told the medics and patients to move. The medics said they have nowhere to go and moving the patients could be a death sentence and they will stand by their patients even if it means they will be killed.
An hour or so later all Internet In Gaza has been cut off and heavy intense bombing has started

Martin83 · 27/10/2023 19:27

Does anyone think there will be a ground operation? I am more skeptical, I think they lost the momentum.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 27/10/2023 19:32

I'm convinced they'll be going in soon. That why they've upped the bombing I think.

Signs are it may have started within the last hour or so, the IDF was quoted not long ago as saying that this evening "troops are "operating forcefully" on all fronts..

ChickHenLittle · 27/10/2023 19:37

For goodness sake, will our spineless leaders demand this stops already?! The images alone are horrific, communications cut... this is barbaric.

I never thought there would be. It is too dangerous and massive loss of life both sides will happen. My belief was they were banging the war drum to make it look like they wouldn't back down. Cutting water, fuel etc to force the release of hostages and to stop Hamas daily missile attacks since 7th October.

However Hamas has stocked up and stolen enough Palestinian and UN fuel now to keep the ventilation system going in their tunnel system. They have managed to sway enough world opinion to just about hang onto the hostages for the time being without losing all support. Therefore they don't need to comply with Israeli demands. This means they plan now to sit tight and wait for a ground attack.

Israel has held off the ground assault for as long as they could and tried to sound as determined as possible etc. However Hamas is calling their bluff well and truly. The language is changing and Israel has declared the ground assault will likely take 18 months now. Unlike before I think this is going to happen. It will be horrific and brutal. Even the return of hostages and Hamas stopping firing missiles won't end this now. Israel have agreed with western Allies and some surrounding state plus the PO to finish Hamas in Gaza. So this is what they are planning. Personally I think another even worse group will pop up in a few years because they always do. Then slowly it all starts again. People don't learn from history it seems.

So much for Israel only targets Hamas and not indiscriminate bombing

immigrant002 · 27/10/2023 20:39

They cut off all communications no one in gaza can be reached ! Imagine having family there is so horrific! No electricity no phones ... something big will happen tonight 😢😢

Reports saying they have killed 50 hostages in their air strikes too.
Journalists and aid workers, and their families, do seem to be being targeted. Now a communications blackout. Gaza is being silenced.

But doesn't the death of the hostages give you a clue about the real targets?

Sorry, but I don't for one second believe they are targeting only Hamas. With the amount of strikes, no-one in the vicinity would survive. The amount of journalists and their families who have recently been killed while hiding out at home doesn't make me any less doubtful.

I really hope the PM grows a spine and condemns what is happening.
I just know I'll wake up to reports of yet another hospital being destroyed because "Hamas were using it as a base". 😔

To be honest, I think it takes more spine to stand up for Israel in the face of relentless anti-Israel protest, and antisemitism of one flavour or another, particularly since the overwhelming majority of peoples and governments in the region consider Jews the enemy. Plus those in western countries who share those ‘values’, of course.

Unfortunately the Israeli government can, some of the statements they've made regarding Palestinians are horrifying. Truly.

Why would people consider Jews the enemy? This is on the Israeli government. Not Jews. Not Israelis. The government and the IDF.

A completely impossible situation Bibi has put the country in.
You have pressure from the families of the hostages, pressure from Hamas, pressure from your enemies as well as your allies. As soon as the coffins come home of Israeli solders there will be no support at home.

His policies of alienating moderate Palestinian authority and unofficially supporting Hamas has backfired so dramatically that I can not understand why on earth he is not thrown out.
