This is running on Al Jazeera and others - apparently Israel refused to take back two hostages.

Alarabia is very watered down ,

Puzzledandpissedoff · 21/10/2023 22:52

Al Jazeera is Qatari - state sponsors of Hamas

FWIW they claim that Al Jazerra is completely independent of the Qatari regime

And for all I know someone may actually believe it ...

Not really it is called having inside sources. For every few really good decent bit of journalism the drop in properganda pieces that fan hate. They are trying to make issues between the middle east and the west or Israel. This suits the regimes of more extreme states. Whereas the most other States or countries are working there way to peace between the east/west/Israel. Plus is is very dodgy in a sly way about reporting most Jew related stories.

DontLeanOnTheKeyboard · 21/10/2023 22:53

The hostage release was engineered by Qatar on the back of Biden’s pressure, and nothing more than a gesture. Things won’t improve because the bombing continues, but behind it, it’s a land grab, the same as any war.

This isn’t to do with Hamas, but will strengthen their cause more and more.

@TakeMe2Insanity
Good God the disinformation and propaganda coming from Hamas. The tragedy of those desperate to believe the terrorists. 😥

These threads are kind of pointless as they don't debate or inform, instead they just degenerate into preaching one conviction against another.

They are targeting their views not other news outlets! Or governments.

They are gentle swaying the way people think to their own narrative of the west and Israels actions. Neither I always agree with I will add. The slow drip feeding of sly barely noticeable properganda or hate makes people support regimes that have appauling rights issues and the death penalty etc. However they gloss over these regimes issues as much as they can get away with. Yes like I said they have some really good pieces majority of the time. However they have properganda and fake news pieces too.

True. I like a good old exercise of my brain for a few days once in a while. So I try to plant the odd helpful bit of information about the situations or debate a bit. People that are very pro anything rarely change their stand point though. You are right.

I suspect there are many of us who have not been happy with Israel’s actions for a long time, but have been afraid of being called anti-Semitic. I’m very averse to Hamas’ actions, absolutely gut wrenching. That doesn’t mean I’m condemning Islam. I’m condemning the actions of a specific group. I also condemn the Israeli land-grab and oppression of the Palestinian people. Not Judaism.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 22/10/2023 12:15

Israel are renowned for doing anything they can to get hostages back, even the bodies. Does anybody seriously think they would reject an offer to take back 2 of their own? Either the conditions attached to it were absolutely ridiculous or Hamas are lying which they do constantly.

Trulywonderful · 21/10/2023 22:42

Haven't heard of your suggestion thanks

I saw a very good interview where a female journalist from Al Arabiya was giving Hamas's Khaled Mashal a real grilling, far more so than I've seen any Western interviewer do.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 22/10/2023 12:32

1dayatatime · 21/10/2023 22:38

So the way these threads generally work is:

  1. Excuse my ignorance as I don't know much about the Arab Israeli conflict but could someone please explain to me [insert something emotive]
  2. post some factually incorrect comments and deny certain events took place
  3. when countered / challenged or corrected immediately shift to whataboutery
  4. quickly moving on to conspiracy theories
  5. once seeds of doubt are planted revert back to denial

The thing is both sides of this debate are driven by conviction and will dismiss any factual information that shows their comments to be fake news. Nothing will ever change both sides views and unless we stop emotive opinions and instead stick to the facts then it will be impossible to reach a peaceful solution.

Couldn't agree more.

It actually doesn't seem to matter who does what and what someone has done because opinions are so entrenched and people choose to believe what they want to believe.

It worries me, considerably.

queenofarles · 23/10/2023 21:45

They’ve been released , just saw a clip on X ,
why is there no coverage ?

Trulywonderful · 23/10/2023 21:49

How many? I heard red Cross say just two more women.

Brilliantlydone · 23/10/2023 21:52

I have heard a lot about 'no negotiations' over hostages. So perhaps Hamas was trying to negotiate.

Additionally I've also heard a Hamas spokesperson tell radio 4 that they never took any hostages. So.

queenofarles · 23/10/2023 21:57

perhaps it’s true they wanted them released earlier on Friday , they look so frail. I hope they get proper medical assistance and plenty of rest.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 23/10/2023 22:01

What do you mean by that?

Trulywonderful · 23/10/2023 22:46

Hamas are just constant with these lies

The Hamas leader today in an interview for western media outlets. He claimed that on 7th October they had never planned on killing civilians.

He said of civilian deaths: "If there was any killing, this was definitely not intended. Definitely."

I mean there are lots of live views and Hamas used victims phones to live stream or send photos to their Jewish relatives. Sick lying fuckwits. Still a large number of western idiots will believe Hamas.

Brilliantlydone · 23/10/2023 23:50

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 23/10/2023 22:01

I mean I can't see how they could be believed to be telling the truth about whether or not they've offered hostages back, when they tell such outrageous lies about other things.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 24/10/2023 00:09

Oh ok, so how do you offer something you don’t have in first place?
