This is running on Al Jazeera and others - apparently Israel refused to take back two hostages.

the families of the hostages must be desperate right now.
It is an impossible situation for them to be in
I'm sure they will want the government to do anything possible to be re united with their loved ones

Stomacharmeleon · 28/10/2023 20:23

@Parkingt111 it's going to be an impossible task if the Hamas hierarchy supposedly don't know where they are. More psychological torture for the families.

Parkingt111 · 28/10/2023 20:32

@Stomacharmeleon latest update

Netanyahu said prisoner swap idea has been discussed in cabinetWe reported just now that Hamas has offered exchanging the more than 220 hostages they kidnapped on 7 October in exchange for the release of all the Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.
Israel's PM Benjamin Netanyahu commented on this earlier at a news conference.
He said the idea of a swap deal involving hostages for prisoners had been discussed within the Israeli war cabinet but declined to give details about specifics, saying this would be counterproductive.
More from our correspondent Paul Adams in Jerusalem in a moment on the hostages and how Israel's leadership is coming under fresh pressure to secure their release as ground operations intensify.

Latest update was Hamas said they would release all hostages in exchange for all palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails

They stated that last week didn't they?

https://news.sky.com/story/impossible-to-know-how-many-israeli-hostages-are-still-alive-says-hamas-official-12985674

However have failed to list what hostages they have and said yesterday don't even know where all the hostages are etc.

6,000 prisoners must be freed in exchange for hostages in Gaza, says Hamas official

The Israeli military said on Monday that 199 captives were being held in Gaza - a higher figure than previously estimated.

@Trulywonderful my last post was jusf reported a few minutes ago on bbc

Parkingt111 · 28/10/2023 20:43

@Trulywonderful latest update is defeating Hamas is primary objective and bringing hostages home is secondary
So I'm not sure if a deal will be made

Maybe they have started it again then. However it was said last week too. All the media reported it.

I wonder if the terms of it this are different or maybe it is just them stating it clearly again

No idea

Yes hostages have always been secondary from the start. I think the general feeling is that if they don't defeat Hamas then more people are at risk of being taken long term. As in it will seem to terrorists that is a tactic that works

When Iran took 70 American hostages. It took 440 days to get them released and half were killed before release. Then we have what happened to the Munich Olympic Israeli hostages that Arafat I think it was had killed. They were negotiating but the people got killed anyway.

In general the governments don't like negotiating with terrorists for hostage release. It tends to not work very well and just be a game. Also it makes the possibility of more hostages being taken at a later date increase

However let us see what Israel says/does next.

EasterIssland · 28/10/2023 22:50

Hopefully they’ll be released soon

RIP Shani

Now saying that they have confirmed her death not that her body has been found

And deleted their previous tweet

Parkingt111 · 30/10/2023 11:43

How very sad, her poor family
I'm sure I read I think last her week her mother said she was alive at a hospital I believe having suffered head injuries

Efacsen · 30/10/2023 11:45

Yes very sad indeed

Trulywonderful · 30/10/2023 11:50

Shani Louk was the poor girl they stripped naked and drove around with people spitting at her wasn't she?

I don't want to think about what else she must have gone through before she died. Poor girl it is horrific.

May her memory be blessed 🌺

Edited

There seems to be conflicting reports on different news sites
On bbc it says that her DNA was matched on a bone fragment which concluded that she must have died
Either way it's extremely sad
I'm sure her family must be asking for a clearer explanation
And if her body has been found that it be brought back home to be given a dignified funeral

Efacsen · 30/10/2023 12:01

Yes slightly garbled from the Guardian - BBC clearer

Tweets as reported

Trulywonderful · 30/10/2023 12:05

Like all news coming out straight away is too early to know the facts. I think the only thing we can be sure of is that the mother has been told officially she is dead.

Efacsen · 30/10/2023 12:15

Lovely picture of her

Visegrád 24@visegrad24 Rest in peace, Shani Louk.

Efacsen · 30/10/2023 12:21

Not sure what happened there - now 2 pics at 2 hour mark if you scroll down

Sorry

StarbucksSmarterSister · 30/10/2023 13:33

I saw the video, it was obvious she was dead on the truck. Not only was there the head wound she had a severely broken leg with no swelling or bruising which indicates she was already dead.

Her poor Mother was obviously desperate, understandably, to believe she's still alive

Silence1 · 30/10/2023 13:40

@StarbucksSmarterSister It may not have been her on the truck. Her mother said " Speaking to the German TV news channel RTL/ntv on Monday, Ricarda Louk said she now assumed her daughter had been dead since 7 October and may have been shot in the head during the Hamas attack.
"At least she [Shani] didn't suffer," she said, adding that it was good to have certainty."

Hamas originally claimed the person on the truck was a female Israeli soldier and the list I read did have 2 of them listed as missing.
Who knows.

The whole thing is horrible.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 30/10/2023 13:55

Her family had originally identified her from the video (which was on 7th October) as she had distinctive leg tattoos and hair. I doubt a IDF soldier would have waist length dreadlocks. And yes she had been shot in the head, you could see it.

Hamas said she was a soldier, they tried to pretend everyone was at first.

Stomacharmeleon · 30/10/2023 14:05

Yes the rave attending, dreadlocked, tattooed shani was a soldier so deserved to be mutilated and spat at. Because that's ok as far as the Geneva Convention goes....

Please can we remember Hamas did this. And Hamas should be held accountable. And anyone else who supports Hamas financially. This is barbaric....
