Afternoon all,
Hope you're having a good day. It's been awhile since I posted in here - apologies for that - I didn't want to spread my doom & gloom about too much... Lord knows I love raking up a self-pity fest - LOL.
However I didn't want to not catch up with all of you..
Cavemum I love the term chillax too - - I really am wishing hard for some chillaxing..Congrats on the exam result too
Florin My fingers are crossed for you conceiving..the yacht story is fabulous.
For all the rest on holidaying with family - that is hard. We typically do half and half and I got to say when it's just DH and me - - it's fabulous. With the in-laws I take it upon myself to please them about everything and hence becomes really stressful.
Halo the list is all tidy - thank you Hope you're recovered from Sat night
Lanky best of luck with the scan this week and also on your house hunting -- between the two hopefully it'll keep the 2ww manage-able.
kkas and others who plan to poas this week - best of luck - - LIke cavemum says - rely on the stats and wait as long as you can. Having said that - I am kinda peeved I don't get to Poas because ERTD always shows up - grrr.
Mrswajs Terribly sorry for ertd showing up - I really really wanted it to be your month... Hope you bounce back quickly.
Bellaby You amaze me with the bikram yoga stories - you go, girl.
kaloki I think what you're experiencing is all goodness-- I wd suggest putting off the poas till post CD 33 at least... it's something haloflo encouraged me to do and I agree it's been less stressful that way for me..
Zippys Glad your SWI sessions are going well -- fingers crossed for the tests.
lanky - more strength to you to stay away from the poas..and hope ERTD will stay away too.

MrsWajs · 06/07/2010 20:40

Hello??

Tis a wee bit quiet in here today....

I'll rake out the self pity with you, since no-one else is here!!

CaveMum · 06/07/2010 21:08

I'm here! I'm always lurking around, just don't have much to post about at the moment!

I'm watching the sex-ed show on channel 4. Anyone else watching?!

Bellaby · 06/07/2010 21:47

Enlighten us cavemum

Bellaby · 06/07/2010 21:49

Just finished watching the football - very happy for the Oranges

CaveMum · 06/07/2010 21:53

It's quite graphic, in that they've got real naked people showing their bits off (via video link) to teenagers. Not in a pervy "look at my willy" way, but demonstrating that everyone comes in different shapes and sizes and it's all normal.

Also talking about "taboos" such as old people, disabled people, people with learning difficulties having sex.

Sex-Ed was nothing like that in my day

Bellaby · 06/07/2010 21:57

I'm sure we just looked at diagrams in a textbook and of course we had a copy of Judy Bloom's 'Forever' that got passed around the class

cherrycobbler · 06/07/2010 22:28

I think our sex ed was also a sneaky copy of Forever, and a film of a woman giving birth - incredibly graphic, including showing the baby's head crowning and explanation of vaginal tears and everything. Cue thirty five shell shocked young teenagers thinking "ok, adoption it is". Its probably left me with some mental scars that explain why my body refuses to get pregnant....

Florin - yacht holiday sounds AMAZING!!

Lanky - oooh exciting re house number two. Some prices are just silly at the moment - esp in London.

MrsW - I am so gutted for you re ERTD, commiserations. I know what you mean, what more can you do. Just keep trying... and go to the GP as soon as 12 months is up, and be demanding. Hopefully your next GP appt will be an antenatal one though. And am excited to have a cycle buddy with you and aries!

Bella Bikram yoga - so impressed. My mate loves it - is completely wiped out every time she does it but think it has done wonders for her. I feel exhausted just thinking about it!

Kaloki..... I don't want to get your hopes up but... sounds very promising. right, I am not going to say any more about it but will be waiting with fingers crossed for POAS news. Almost good luck with your test too...

Zippys do hope tests go well - keep us posted. Yay for imminent hols!! Boo for manic week pre hols - always the way.

to everyone else.

Ok best go and get some beauty sleep - in early for work tomorrow as have some awful pitch to prepare for. Spent all day in tears today as dad's health has taken turn for the worse and he was upset and my mum was upset and... blugh! Tomorrow will be much more together and efficient and... well, maybe.

Night all!

Kaloki · 06/07/2010 22:33

Cavemum I think I OV'd on CD14, because there were copious (sorry!) amounts of EWCM. However it's also the day the cramps and spotting started. So quite confused.

I will keep my fingers crossed that you get a normal cycle this time, I know what you mean about it being a weight off your mind!

almostknockedupgirl I will keep my fingers crossed for you too. Hopefully it's good news for both of us rather than our bodies being weird. Though if it is the latter at least we know we aren't alone!

zippys Going to try and wait until ERTD is actually late. Probably 2 weeks after it is due after the randomly late ERTD last month. That is unless I can actually get a Dr's appointment (apparently there are none free until Friday - even with the nurses!) and they want me to test then.

Haven't been on the grads thread recently, hope they are all ok. Might pop over in a minute.

lankylegs Hope your new offer gets accepted. I think having something else to focus on will do you good.

mrswajs It wont change my plans for the day, it will however mean I will leave putting the dress together till much closer to the date, so that I can adjust it. Talking about the dress, I've got the mocked up dress done and it's really flattering. And I've ordered the material!

It's frustrating TTC isn't it? You feel like you should have more control. When it really does seem to be pure chance.

womanlytales I've been staying away because of feeling very self pitying too. But we really shouldn't worry about putting a downer on the thread.

cavemum again Can you tell I'm going through the thread in chronological order? Is that a repeat with Anna Forgotten-her-last-name? I watched it before and thought it was really well done. She's a fantastic presenter.

CaveMum · 06/07/2010 22:47

kaloki yup Anna waasername! This is a new series, it's on every night this week at 9.

It's not just about sex, though that's the dominant theme, but also sexuality and body image. It's quite interesting actually, might learn something .

Having been brought up with a total lack of decent sex-ed - school covered the basics, overly religious mother basically said I'd go to hell if I had sex before marriage [rolls eyes] - it's good to know they are actually taking the subject seriously now.

From my experience, and that of friends, the best method for stopping your teenage daughter getting pregnant is to buy her a pony! That way they're too busy looking after it to go galivanting around with boys! Worked for me, though I never had a pony if my own, all my time and money went on riding lessons, etc. I didn't get round to having a boyfriend till I was 19!

Kaloki · 06/07/2010 23:15

Will have to watch that then, the series I saw was really good

Morning, less than a week till my hols and getting quite excited, started putting clothes on thr spare bed last night

Lanky good luck with the ultrasound today. Mines tomorrow, hope you manage ok with all the water drinking Also keeping my fingers crossed for re the house offer. Its all very exciting and I echo comments that it may tkae your mind off ttc a little (I know easier said than done!)

Mrs Waj I think thats a good plan re the docs at least if you do await the full year then they cant fob you off. Hopefully they will at least do the intial test that Lanky and I are going through. Although of course I am hoping you wont need them as will have had your BFP by then!

Womanly dont worry about doom and gloom round here, thats what we are here for, its so emotional this TTC malarky you need to get support whereever you can.

Cherry so sorry to hear about your Dad. (Massive hugs)

Kaloki I think you are being sensible about waiting to test. Its weird for me if I get a blood test done which comes back negative it doesnt seem as bad as when I poas - weird I know! Oooh so exciting re your dress, at least if you are making it yourself you can alter it.

I still havent got my ring DP says he has a time in mind when he wants to poropse and he hasnt forgotten! SO hopefully it will be soon.

Kkas have you got your new car yet? (sorry if I missed you mention it). I still keeping finding little things on my new car that it didnt realise it does!

Well we have decided to put SA off until after hols, my appointment with the consultant is middle of August and we are only away for a week, so my thoughts were to get SA done when we get back which will give time for tests to be back before consultants appointment. This also means it will be more likely to fall when ERTD is here rather then wasting sperm around OV

I agreee re sex ed, we had so little, I also read Forever and and also 'Are you there God its me Margaret' re ERTD. Dont think we even watched a child birth video, although that maybe a good thing! I think that series is a good idea and also gets people talking. Not that we need much encouragement on this board!!

Hello to everyone else

LankyLegs · 07/07/2010 10:15

Ugh - football was on in our house so no sex education for me last night Loved the post reminding me of Judy Bloom's Forever - god I remember reading those and feeling enlightened! SE was non-existent in our house when we were young - can you believe it - we were 5 girls and neither our mum or dad thought it would be good to tell us about the birds and bees!

Zippys do we really have to drink a lot of water - my letter says have an empty bladder or if you are a virgin then drink 2 pints an hour before and don't pee! Anyway - I will fill you in this evening once i have had the scan. Good that you have decided to leave SA till after holiday - best you o on holiday and shag to your hearts content with little stress - best way!

Cave I am loving your parenting advice - If I have a little girl I am definitely going to advocate riding lessons now!

Kaloki and Womanly please don't stay away because you think you would put a downer on this thread. That's exactly why its here - so we can vent the emotions associated with TTC - especially if you cant do it in RL. Kaloki how are you symptoms?

Bella well I was kind of hoping for Uruguay to win - did you see their last goal and them trying to go for it to equalizer? Poor blokes. Anyway - am pleased the football is nearly over - was starting to get annoyed how it dominates an entire nights TV if its on!

Cherry sorry about your dad as well - its not easy and especially for your mum - try and be strong for her. Have been there myself.

Our offer was rejected but we are going in with another one today. The thing is that DH is so rational about these things and when I fall in love with a house I fall in love with it - have already in my head figured out the decor and furniture and sit here and daydream about summer drinks parties I would have on the HUGE lawn! Will keep you all posted on scan news - its this afternoon but then am off to my last upholstery class of the term in the evening so will try and post at some point!

kkas · 07/07/2010 11:10

hi all - thanks for the good luck wishes re testing on sunday. i just hope i can hold out that long as starting to feel the first few twinges of cramps so i think it's not long til ERTD shows up. saying that, temp is still above what it normally is at this time of the cycle (which i can tell using the cool chart overlay/average line function of FF - such a geek i know...!) so maybe there is still hope. i certainly don't feel pg though - no sore boobs or nothin'...

zippys we picked up our car about 3 weeks ago and it is fab! really cool ipod docking system and also has automatic reverse parking, which actually works really well. all you have to do is control the break and it turns the steering wheel for you so you can get into those really tough spaces. amazing!!! we're driving it to edinburgh for a few nights at the end of the month and then to wales with my bro next month so we're really looking forward to our road trips now!

hope everyone else is doing well

MrsWajs · 07/07/2010 11:54

Richardson!! Anna Richardson! I always get her and Dawn Porter confused!

So, yep, I was watching the sex ed show as well!! Have never heard of this 'Forever' book tho? Maybe should look it up! I remeber my parents having a copy of the joy of sex and looking at the pictures reading that!! Freaked me right out and managed to put me off having sex til 16! Not exactly brilliant but better than most of my friends who got started at about 14!

Kaloki I forgot you were making the dress, that's good you'll just be able to adjust it nearer the time! Do you have a picture of the mock up?
I totally agree with you re: lack of control. I was visiting a friend yesterday who was telling me about another girl we know who has just found out she is pregnant. Get this - she and her on/off boyfriend were trying for about 6 months with nothing, they then split up because he didn't think it was what he wanted after all etc etc and lo and behold now she's pregnant by him after a one-off whilst they were seperated!!
So now they'll be having baby that he's not sure he wants!! They are back together but for how long? I just think it's so unfair that DP & I really want a baby and are in a stable relationship and can't have that and they are all over the shop and split up when she manages to conceive. I guess it goes to show the get-drunk/one night stand approach is more effective than carefully planned SWI!!

Ugh and while I'm on a rant I might as well get the DP's ex off my chest as well! Because our holidays and the wedding last weekend clashed with times we should have had DSS, we arranged for other members of the family to take him a) so we weren't slacking on our end of the arrangement and b) so that DSS gets to bond with other members of his family. So DPs mum had him while we were on holiday and as far as I was aware everything was fine. And this weekend just past DP's dad and partner had DSS - I think this is where the problem is stemming from. According to she-who-shall-not-be-named DSS returned from his grandads and, I quote, 'smashed up her tv'!! So now she's saying that if we are going to be away when we should have him, he's not allowed to stay with members of DP's extended family because it's affecting his behaviour, she thinks, because he is being spoiled and not disciplined properly!! This has totally pissed me off a) because she would be moaning if we weren't sticking to what was agreed and b) I don't think she's considered the fact that DSS has not long started nursery and IMO is when the bad behaviour started and also that her sister has just had a baby and there were complications with that so DSS probably wasn't getting the usual amount of attention that he normally does! How the hell can a 2 year old smash up a TV???
Might head over to parenting thread for some ideas!!

Anyway, that's enough of that! Back to TTC! Ooh my thermometer broke this morning too Keeps sayin 'err' so gonna have to get another one although am not sure I'll bother for this month as I am starting night shift soon and it's going to be almost impossible to chart as for half the month I'll be getting up at a normal time and for the other half I'll be in back to front mode - not sure how temping can be consistent that way and definitely can't use CBFM so might just wing it wth OPK's and hopefully it will remove some of the pressure therefore making this month the lucky one! That's my thinking anyway!

Cherry I didn't realise your dad was unwell, so sorry to hear that. I've been there before and I know it can't be easy.

Zippys I would have ants in my pants waiting for that ring!!! At least you know it is coming at some point tho, my DP just keeps fobbing me off with 'yeah we will get married one day' I've already told him we'll be doing it after DC1 is born!! Not immediately, obviously, but soon after! Although I'm not strictly religious, I do have issue with all our chidren being born out of wedlock! Funny that eh, I'm sure it has nothing to do with my VERY catholic grandparents!
As for the GP visit - I could go now as already told a little fib about how long I'd been trying last time I was there (only an extra month) but I think if I wait until the 12 month mark it will look as tho I've given it an extra month too so even less reason to fob me off! Good to know that you and Lanky are having tests now though - you will be able to keep me informed when it's my turn!
I was once told by a tarot reader that I wouldn't be able to have children without intervention and although I'm not an avid believer in all things super natural it is starting to seem more likely that this might be the case!! According to her I would need some kind of medication but no invasive treatment! But I guess that's just a case of wait and see! Anyway good luck with scan tomorrow.

Lanky Shame about the offer on the house but you sound like you're not letting it get you down!! Like someone else has already said I think it's good to have a distraction when TTC so hope that tactic works in your favour! You're like me when it comes to houses - my imagination is always getting ahead of it's self!! Good luck with your scan today.

Hello to cavemum sorry I missed you last night! And womanly feel free to vent in here anytime you want - that's what we're all here for, lord knows I do it often enough!

Kaloki · 07/07/2010 13:38

I don't have a picture of the mocked up dress, mainly as it is being held together mainly by pins.

Received some very pretty buttons for it this morning, they are 1950's vintage glass buttons in a really unusual geometric style.

lankylegs Much the same really. Heavy cramps at about 11pm every night - without fail. Cannot get a Dr's appointment though for some reason.

LankyLegs · 07/07/2010 17:16

Hello - sorry for quick post but just wanted to let Zippys know about the scan! I was slightly worried when she pulled out a dildo (not kidding) and said dont worry its not as nasty as a smear test! I did read the letter which said 'a small probe with a camera is inserted' but was not expecting a dildo! Also - first time I was on one of those stirrup chair things

Anyway - it is painfree and not uncomfortable at all. I have to go back in 10 weeks as she found a cyst on my left ovary - apparently they can be very common in the second half of the cycle so they want to check again in the first half of the cycle to make sure its not changed or anything . Hoping its nothing serious

Right ovary fine (which is wierd as thats where I get all the pain)and the lining was also what she expected to see for day 22 of cycle.

Right - off to upholster my victorian chair (geek). Will be back later to post properly!

Ooh - and they have semi-accepted our offer -well they have not said no (they are trying to see whether they can get the property they like for cheaper - in which case hopefully they will accept!)

Good luck for tomorrowZippys* will be thinking of you xxx

Sorry for me me post

Kaloki · 07/07/2010 17:59

Bloody hell! Wouldn't have expected that, glad it was pain free though.

Good luck on getting your offer accepted

zippys · 07/07/2010 18:22

Thanks for the heads up lanky I can imagine that was quite a shock!! Got to dash as off out for dinner. I am sure cyst is all innocent. Will come back and post properly tomorrow.

zippys · 07/07/2010 18:32

Ooh ooh ooh just to add spirals had her baby over on the grads page. Really must dash now. X

Ariesgirl · 07/07/2010 18:50

Am just lurking. Hi everyone. Well done lanky for being brave.

CaveMum · 07/07/2010 19:10

Evening all, I've just read spirael's birth story over on the grads thread - what a wonderful and reassuring read! She managed it with only paracetamol for pain relief

Highly recommended reading for everyone.

Ariesgirl · 07/07/2010 19:17

I just read that too. She's one lucky momma! What an amazing experience - why can't all births be like that?

Kkas your new car sounds lovely. I am still in that stage looking forward to longer journeys Your temp sounds positive, a lot of people have had BFP with no symptoms. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

LankyLegs hope you get your offer accepted. My ultrasound is this morning but weirdly enough I need to drink 1.5 litres before I go (and as we all know I am not a virgin ) As I said last night I am sure that cyst will be nothing. I wasnt expecting to hear any results today, I hope I do.

Mrswaj she sounds like a right nightmare, she is obviously just trying to lay blame away from her!! I feel the same about children out of wedlock, buts it more that i want my children to have my surname than anything. But yes I am going mad waiting for the ring!!
Cant believe about your friends, its so unfair isnt it .

Kaloki hope your cramps are getting better. Do you know why you cant get a docs appointments? Can you not book for next week yet?

Aries I agree if all biths could be like Spirals it would be amazing.

Hello to anyone lurking x

I have heard from one of my friends who has been undergoing IVF, they have had a hard time with her parents not agreeing with it as its not natural. But on their third attempt, and lots of cash spent they are pregnant. Its still early days but I am so so pleased for them.

Right off to drink loads of water and then try not to wee!! At least it will get me in practice for scans if I get BFP

I just read spirals birth story, how amazing does that sound? She must get top marks for easiest birth ever. Very sweet.......

Kkas car sounds lovely - I love that feeling when you are driving around in a new car - feel like the bees knees! Temps sound promising - I love that chart overlay thingy in FF as well. Fingers crossed for you. Keep us posted!

MrsWajs DP's ex sounds quite tricky - not very reasonable according to what you said. I think you have to remember that ex's are ex's for a reason and of course you have to remain dignified for the sake of DSS but you are always welcome to get it off your chest here.

Why is it sods law that those people who should not be pregnant get pregnant so bloody quickly. Can't believe that story about the girl you know - you do wonder though how long it will last - poor kid might end up getting stuck in the middle of it.

Kaloki dress sounds like its coming along - you must post a picture soon . Still sounding positive with the symptoms though. Why cant you get a GP appt?

Aries how you doing? Have not heard from you in a while - hope all is ok

Zippys make sure you ask lots of questions in your scan - I came out thinking shite should have asked this and that. They should tell you if there is anything to report back. Good luck xx

Halo are you symptom spotting yet?

Ugh - we are in limbo about offers - the agents for another house that we liked just came back and told us that the vendors have found a house and that they would be willing to take a lower price - we were considering this place but had not put in an offer - its Edwardian with tonnes of original features but it just might be a little too cramped in say 10 years time. Anyway - I came back from my class last night and DH had printed off the floor plan and spoken to surveyor friends and had reconfigured this house on a piece of paper! So we are still torn - although going to play them off against each other to get decisions out of the one that we really want.

Other than that I am struggling for motivation today at work. Any suggestions on how to kick one self up the bottom?

Waves to everyone else...
