I wasn't monitored either, just a 21 day blood test each month to see if it was working.........

LunarSea · 04/08/2005 16:38

katie - I'm now actively looking for a new GP - but at the moment can't seem to find out any detail about who has what particular interests. I've started a new thread here to see if anyone else has any ideas.

katierocket · 05/08/2005 10:08

OK so felt a bit grim yesterday - tired and a bit odd but OK today. how you doing roobedo?

Roobedoo · 05/08/2005 13:11

Yesterday was horrible - felt really grumpy/emotional all day. Was meant to see a friend for coffee and she cancelled and I nearly cried (whilst swearing about her!) Fortunately am feeling a lot better today and I've had my last dose of C. Tummy feels a bit sore though. Got scan next Friday which I am really excited about - not sure why, but I suppose at least I'll know if it's doing the trick, then we'll have a busy weekend of BD!

Glad to hear you're not suffering too much. It's such a relief that we don't appear to have gone mad/hairy/fat/hot/sleepless etc.

katierocket · 05/08/2005 17:45

yesterday sounds horrid, poor you. Let me know how you get on at the scan.

I am very bloated and have bad wind but apart from that not too bad. DP keeps looking at me oddly, like he's waiting for my head to spin round!

Roobedoo · 09/08/2005 13:13

How are you getting on Katierocket? I'm feeling ok, a bit snappy and incredibly clumsy (don't know if I can blame clomid for that, but just keep dropping things). Looking forward to a weekend of BD if results of Friday's scan are good!

stilltrying · 09/08/2005 16:24

Have been subscribed Chlomid 100g per day to take on days 5 to 9 as have a 29 day cycle, but i had a shorter cycle last month only 24 days and this month i ov,d on day nine so should i take the next dose on days 2 - 6.

katierocket · 09/08/2005 16:36

ok thanks roobedo, I was going to ask you the same. I actually feel ok just quite bloated, so now I've convinced myself that's it's not 'working'. Anyway, I'm on day 8 today so really need to get going from today until next monday.

good luck, let me know how you get on at the scan.

lfm · 09/08/2005 20:53

I was on Clomid for 5 months even though I was ovulating but after a m/c my cycle was a bit irregular. We had been trying to conceive for 12 months after m/c. I had to get vaginal scans every other day leading up to ovulation to check I wasnt producing too many eggs. Didn't have any side effects. With my second child I was referred after 13 months but fell pregnant before getting Clomid but they were happy to refer me. I'd definitely investigate changing GP and find out what the criteria are for referral. It seems that you get a really different service depending where you live and on your GP.

Roobedoo · 09/08/2005 20:53

katierocket - will keep you informed. Good luck.

stilltrying - don't know about days for taking clomid. My cycles vary from 20-60 days and I'm taking on days 2-6. Actually I've only ever heard of people taking clomid from day 2.

feelingold · 09/08/2005 21:53

I was on increasing doses of clomid for about a year and I never ovulated once
I was monitered twice weekly with vag scans and was eventually put onto pergonol injections (you are then monitered by scan and blood tests) and after being on increasing doses of them for about 2 years I ovulated once and got pregnant with dd. I do have severe PCOS though.
Good luck (and by the way I did not have any side effects from clomid.)

Loubie37 · 10/08/2005 17:13

Hi, I hope you don't mind if I join you, I was advised about this thread on another one, and it's just what I was looking for as I'm due to start Clomid on my next cycle (which is about 3 weeks away)

A bit about us -

Hi

Hope you don't mind me joining you? A bit about us:

Me 37
H2B 25
DD 13
DS 11 (both from my first marriage, h2b has no kids yet)

We've been TTC since Jun 04 with no success other than a very early m/c in Jan. We're now under a fertility specialist who has diagnosed Anovulatory Disfunction (I don't always OV even though my cycles are fairly regular). I'm starting Clomid next month, once this cycle is done with, but I'm very impatient - I'm only on CD7!!

I've asked 2 questions on the other thread, but if you don't mind I'll ask them here too -

  1. I always spot for 2-3 days before AF arrives, what do I count as day 1? I asked the specialist and he said the first day of spotting, but that doesn't seem right to me, it means I would start taking the Clomid at the back end of this cycle not the beginning of next?

  2. Do you think I should warn my boss in case I'm not my usual self or end up being off work sick due to side effects? (Although having read your posts I'm not quite so worried about them now - I've read some right horror stories on the net!!)

Also, I don't get any follow up check ups in the first cycle on the basis of it will take longer than one cycle to kick in - does this sound right? Cycles 2 and 3 I have to go for a 21 day blood test (no scans)

Good luck everyone, I hope you all get a BFP soon

Loubie xx

Twiglett · 10/08/2005 17:31

first day of spotting red blood

no, don't tell your boss unless you are exceptionally socially close it is none of his/her business

follow-ups don't seem to be that normal in UK .. seems to be dependent on consultant

HTH and good luck

katierocket · 10/08/2005 17:32

that's weird, I was told it's the first day you wake up bleeding, or immediately bleed.

Loubie37 · 10/08/2005 17:54

Thanks for that - I usually spot brown stuff for a couple of days (sorry for tmi!) by the time it gets to red my AF is imminent so if I count day 1 as the first day of red I won't be far off!

It's confusing though, all the different advice you get. I was hoping it might go into more details on the instruction leaflet you get? (I've not picked up my prescription yet as I've got 3 weeks or so to wait)

Thanks for the advice, and I'll hold off telling my boss too unless I have to (they're really strict about being off sick where I work)

Thanks

Loubie xx

stilltrying · 11/08/2005 08:13

Loubie i start my first dose next month too and i am very impatient. I hope im not expecting too much from this clomid. Im only on day 11 of cycle and praying for next to be early. I have ovulated early so is likely. I was told to take mine when bleeding started, red blood not spotting. Also on days 5 - 9 when everyone ive spoken to seems to be day 2 - 6. What were you told? Think i may compramise and do 3 - 8

Twiglett · 11/08/2005 08:27

I took mine from day 1 - 5 (other people I know were all day 2 - 6) .. I suppose it is best to do as consultant advises you could always call to double check (I was ovulating maybe that's why I had different start date)

Twiglett · 11/08/2005 08:27

Loubie .. brown is just old blood (its nothing to worry about)

Loubie37 · 11/08/2005 10:03

Isn't it strange how the advice varies from doctor to doctor? Having read up about Clomid before my appointment (I suspected I would be put on it so wanted to be informed, I'm the sort of person who has to know everything!!) I fully expected to go on 50mg per day from days 5-9, in fact I was praying it waould be day 5 as that's what cycle day I was on Monday when I had my appointment!!

I too don't want to pin all my hopes on Clomid, it's probably more to do with my ge that I'm not OVing, I conceived my first 2 (when I was much younger!) with no trouble at all. I never expected to be still not PG 15 months later when we decided to TTC

Stilltrying - good luck for next month, I'm on CD8 so not too far behind you, likewise I'm praying that AF comes early (or not at all)

Loubie xx

Loubie37 · 11/08/2005 10:07

Forgot to ask....katierocket - I notice you said earlier you are on 50mg twice a day....I will be on 100mg, does that mean I take it twice a day to, or all at once? The specialist never said, so I presumed he meant all at once?

Also, I've read somewhere that it's beast if taken at night before you go to bed because then any symptoms such as hot flashes etc will be while you're asleep. Any thoughts anyone?

Thanks

Loubie xx

Roobedoo · 11/08/2005 10:11

I'm on 100mg but take it all in the morning. Still got hot flushes at night though. Very odd how so many docs give such different advice.

Hope you all have an easy time on clomid and hope it works for us all.

malinki · 11/08/2005 10:32

Hi Ladies, just been to the Repro Medi Unit at LGI (also known as IVF clinic), just spoken to a gentleman called Mr Balen (very well known in the world of Gynie, specialises in IVF and Repro Medicine etc etc), he prescribed me Clomid last month and I spoke to him about a few things relating to Clomid.

  1. Clomid when should I be taking it - his reply between days 2-6 of cycle (over 5 days ladies), do not count day 1 if spotting, day 1 is full on bleed (or if like me and they are light then CD1 is when the blood is heavier or redder than spotting)
  2. Side effects - his reply and bluntness, not many actually, you may get hot sweats usually a couple of hours after taking Clomid, you may get a mild period pain feeling around ovulation day, and you could have multiple births.
  3. How long should I take Clomid - his reply, Clomid can only be taken upto 6 months at a time and only on days of you cycle, you can have a break between the cycles, as long as we know you are doing that and its for a good reason, ie if your sick, coming into hospital for an op etc. However and this happened to me!!, I took clomid 50 mg for 6 months, it didn't work, Mr Balen said it would have been like me having smarties to help with ovulation, so they gave me 100mg for 2 months ontop of the 6 months I already had. IF CLOMID IS SHOWING NO SIGNS OF WORKING BY THE 4-5 CYCLE, CLOMID CAN BE INCREASED IN DOESAGE AND A FURTHER COUPLE OF CYCLES MAY BE NEEDED, but only if you are being properly monitored ie scanned etc by the hospital (which I am on CD 14, 16, 18 & 20.
  4. When does Clomid not work properly - his reply If you are overweight stronger doses may be needed upto a max of 150mg (3 x 50 mg tablets a day)

I have lost nearly a stone and this is my 2nd cycle of clomid and I ovulated last month and am going to go for it defo this month.
I suffer with PCOS and endometriosis and have a DD who will be 5 going on 14 next week, since her birth and us ttc for the last 2 years this is the 3rd time I have been on Clomid for 6 cycles. I was diagnosed with PCOS around 10 years ago..

Roobedoo · 11/08/2005 10:36

Malinki - great post, thanks. What CD are you now? Like to keep track of all of us clomid ladies.

katierocket · 11/08/2005 10:48

that's interesting malinki thanks, I'm only on 50mg so won't hold out too much hope! Anyway, we'll see.

Loubie37 · 11/08/2005 12:35

Thanks for that malinki - I feel a bit happier about waiting until AF is here properly now and counting that as day 1(I don't like going against the specialists, I would hate them to think that I think I know more than them lol!)

It might have answered why I'm on 100mgs a day from the outset too, as I'm on the large side

I'm still a little bit worried that I'm not getting monitored properly though - all I'm having is 21 day blood tests on cycles 2 and 3?? Then I go back for another appointment in month 4 to review everything.

Good luck I really hope it works for you (and everyone else!)
