I thought I'd start a thread for all of us who worship at the shrine of Toni Weschler, spend whole seconds analysing cervical mucus, slip over in the shower checking cervical position and spend two minutes every morning flicking their heads from side to side in a valiant attempt to stop a baby pulling the thermometer out of their mouths. Ladies, this thread is for all of us, may it see many many BFPs!

shaggy (sorry it looks like I crossed posts earlier and didn't know you'd joined us) not sure what to say about the cycles - only 2 days of bleeding does sound a bit short. Might need to talk to GP. How long ago was your last MC? (so sorry to hear you've been through it twice .) If it was fairly recent it could take time for things to settle.

As for the prog cream both my GP and a consultant said it can do no harm but neither were convinced that it could do good.

I speciifically asked the consultant that I saw after my recent MC if he was ok with me using it for my luteal phase and he was fine with that. I figured even if it just had a placebo effect and I FELT like I was doing something - that would be enough.

I definitely think it has an effect cos I got tingly boobs as soon as I started using it but it remains to be seen if it will help to achieve a BFP or sustain a preg.

I will of course keep you informed and realise that you will probably want the go ahead from your own GP first rather than take the word of a mad old hippy .

silver day 20 here. So can't really test until at least day 25 (14 days post ov).

Had a banging headache again today and feel exhausted and tearful - i'm either pregnant or knackered!!!! Probably the latter.

IfAtFirstUDontSucceed · 01/05/2010 19:23

This is my first month charting and I expect to Ov day now (got a + on OPK yesterday). My temp jumped up by .25c this morning. Is this a big enough jump to guess that I Ov'd?

I had two of glasses of vino last night, and I made sure I took my temp at the same time this morn. Would the booze have affected my temp this much?

spilttheteaagain · 01/05/2010 19:46

IfAtFirst - not too sure about the effect of alcohol, but I think the way to check if it was likely to be ovulation is to see what your temp is tomorrow and the day after. The principle is that you should see at least 3 temps consistently higher than the 6 preceeding them (the 3 over 6 rule).

Obviously by the tme you've seen 3 high temps, your fertile time has passed, so best grab your DH now to be on the safe side!

Anyone know about booze and temps?

IfAtFirstUDontSucceed · 01/05/2010 19:56

Ha! I've made sure that we've (ahem) done it every night since Tuesday, and told him to keep going until I say stop

I will bare in mind the 3 over 6 rule. Thanks spilttheteaagain

spilttheteaagain · 01/05/2010 20:32

Hehe, I too have been diligently at it for the last couple of weeks - aiming for every day, though it turned out more like 2 out of every 3. Ov'd a couple of days ago so now just hanging around waiting to see what happens.

Curious how after ovulation my sex drive seems to go through the floor... Tired out I reckon!

hippychick66 · 02/05/2010 11:11

Hi ladies. AF got me today .

I find this whole temp thing very hit and miss. I usually take my temp at 7.30am. Today i woke up at 6.30 needing a wee so I figured better take it a bit early cos once been for a wee wont be able to take at 7.30. Took it at 6.30 (36.50) so i thought right it's dropping down from the 36.75 that it's been since ovulation.

Anyway, didn't get up to do the wee and managed to fall back to sleep, woke up again at 7.10 and though. This is nearer to my usual time - I'll try taking it again. and it was 36.75. So in 40 mins with me not getting up and hardly moving at all it had gone up 0.25. What the heck????

Anyway, once again I had a short cycle (despite the prog cream - but I guess it is early days for that). But I did manage a 10 day LP - so that's not too bad I guess.

How is everyone else doing???

LittleSilver · 02/05/2010 15:26

Oh dear, sorry hippie. Good about the 10 day LP though. Would anyone with the time and the inclination be so kind as to have a peek at my post on the Jan bus this am? The sequel to it is that I bought some opks this pm and got a neg (Tesco own brand, if anyone is interested!). But cervix is SHOW and am having def ov pains. So I don't know what to think. CD19 but not a sausage of a thermal shift (normal ov day is CD19). I'd really appreciate some advice. Hippie have you got any other ideas up your sleeve for lenthening your lp?

OP posts:
hippychick66 · 02/05/2010 17:54

silver I think it's all down to timing.

You get the surge (positive on OPK) about 36 hours before Ovulation. You get the ovulation pains around ovulation (but not always at the exact point) and then you get the thermal shift on the day after or the day after that.

It sounds like you are expecting all to happen at the same time .

If you have ovulation pains today then the positive on the opk would have been a couple of days ago and the thermal shift wont happen till tomorrow or tues.

Does that make sense???

I would definitely go by your cervix and what your body is telling you and go for a bank holiday bonk.

Good luck - let me know if my explanation doesn't make any sense.

LittleSilver · 02/05/2010 18:49

Ah, hippie, who need Toni Weschler when we've got you on this thread?! Thank you my dear, made perfect sense.

OP posts:
LittleSilver · 02/05/2010 18:50

Off to bonk on the bank holiday!

OP posts:
hippychick66 · 02/05/2010 20:54

Glad to help. If this bonk makes a baby you have to call her/him Hippy!!!!

hippychick66 · 04/05/2010 09:32

Thoughts on the preogesterone cream:-

Not sure if it's all down to the progesterone cream or not - but I have been so emotional this period. Maybe it's just cos I was really hoping for a positive this month cos of all the talk of being more fertile after an MC.

But I do feel so hormonal and I wonder if it is the added progesterone. Don't want to put you off the cream but did say that i would keep you up to date with my thoughts on it.

JustShaggy · 04/05/2010 14:12

Hi Hippy

Saw you posted a question on this in another thread and thought I'd answer here - no straight answer I'm afraid.

What I can tell you is that in both my pregnancies I had horrible emotional issues - not the typical pg 'mood swings', but ever increasing relentless misery and anxiety physical symptoms. In my second pg I knew I was pg because these horrid feelings hit me full force again. And even though multiple different HPT's said I was -'ve I KNEW I was +'ve ... and I was.

So I think either HCG or mega-progesterone make me seriously crazy - I don't know which and the NHS has been spectacularly unhelpful in trying to get to the bottom of it.

So maybe.... maybe the same is happening to you now...?

So although I am open to trying the cream if my luteal phase gets really short, I also fear it a little for this reason. What you say makes me really wonder if was progesterone rather than HCG doing it to me? hmmmm

Another thought though .... have you stopped the cream now? Is it possible you're having a massive unfamiliar progesterone crash while you go into the eostrogen phase of your cycle and your body see-sawing to adjust?

hippychick66 · 04/05/2010 19:31

justshaggy I have stopped the cream since AF arrived so, yes I could be having some kind of progesterone crash.

Having said that though the extreme emotions started when i had a streak on day 19 and wasn't sure if it was implantation bleed or a sign that i was going to have another short cycle. It turned out to be another short cycle and I just seemed to spiral from there.

Actually feeling a bit better now but think I will give the progesterone cream a miss for this cycle and see how loopy I am without it.

Thanks for your detailed reply.

IfAtFirstUDontSucceed · 04/05/2010 19:52

I need your words of wisdom, this is my first month charting and really confused.

I am normally VERY regular (28 day cycle currently on CD18), so DH & I have been SWIing every day since last Tuesday - phew!!

Got a positive OPK on Friday but temps have been all over the place, nothing really distinctive(Thu & Fri - normal, Sat .25c rise, Sunday dipped back to normal, Mon .50c rise, this morn dipped back to normal).

Ive continued using the OPKs which kept giving a positive result all weekend until this morning (negative this afternoon).

Had some bad news on Friday which has stressed me out over the weekend, and I know stress can delay OV, but can affect it so late in the day (ie after +OPK)?

LittleSilver · 04/05/2010 20:03

Ifatfirst, I will have a go at answering your question, but will preface it with the caveat that I am also new to charting and have no relevant qualifications!

OK, the LH surge happens before you ov, so presumably if you got the + OPK on Friday before you were very stressed, that could have delayed ovulation by sort of halting it in it's tracks just as you were about to release an egg? Personally I would keep using the OPKs and keep an eye on temps, in case you decide to surge again and ov properly. Like I say, am very inexperienced and hopefull hippie will be along in a minute to help you (she's good at that!)

Shaggy and hippie, slightly concerning about progesterone cream? I might steer clear of it; I am sort of cranking things up each month and was going to try it next month if no joy. CD 21 and still no ov. OPKs (first month of using) kind of indicating "almost" pos. Wish I could splash out on a CB digi ov one, but at £22 that's ridiculous.

Luck to all

spilttheteaagain · 04/05/2010 20:37

Evening all. Can someone help me?

When are you "supposed" to do a pg test? I'm 7 DPO and getting rather impatient. Is it the day your period is due or is it a set number of days post ov? Bearing in mind no fancy First Response tests here, just cheapy internet ones that came free with my thermometer

If it makes any difference, last month I had a 10 day LP. Ta

decafgirl · 04/05/2010 20:59

Hi spilt I'm certainly no expert but I'd hang on as long as you can to test as it can take a while for the HcG to show up in the urine. If you test too early you run the risk of a false negative and then (in my experience) don't believe it's a BFN anyway and test again and again until AF arrives! It's so frustrating isn't it?! If you only have a 10 day lp then you've not got long to wait - are you charting as well?

I really hope it's a BFP for you xxx

hippychick66 · 04/05/2010 22:48

Ahh shucks littlesilver thanks for the compliment.

ifatfirst It's funny cos a couple of months ago i wouldn't have known the answer to your question but now that i have read Toni's book, i agree with littlesilver. Stress can cause ovulation to be delayed. Your body can gear up for it and have the LH surge but not actually ovulate.

If you haven't had a definite and consistent temperature shift then maybe it has been delayed. If you notice that you have egg white cervical mucus soon that is a sign that you are gearing up again. Do an opk test and definitley do some shagging.

Another thing is, if your ovulation has been delayed then you will have a longer cycle this month - just stating the obvious incase you get all excited when AF is late and it may be just cos of this hiccup - IYSWIM.

littlesilver didn't mean to put you off the cream. I may just be a bit loopy all by myself. I will try a month without the cream and see if I'm any different this month. i mean I got pregnant without the cream in december so I should be ok.

Feeling a lot less stressed and more level now. Hopefully I'll be a laid back Hippy again soon.

Take care all. xx

spilttheteaagain · 05/05/2010 19:00

Thanks decaf. Yes I am charting too, but so far only have last month to really compare to. 8 DPO now and no sign of temps dipping yet, which they seemed to be on last month's chart. However, it could just be that the last two nights were cold, and so I wore socks and was probably warmer because of it...

Feeling rather premenstrual today though, with an achy back & stomach and a foul temper

I'm trying not to be particularly hopeful, to save on disappointment (esp given that this is only the 1st month of ttc!), but of course am secretly hoping!

How are you getting on today LittleSilver? Any signs of anything happening?

LittleSilver · 05/05/2010 19:26

Well, temps went up this am, so need to see if they stay up, fingers crossed. Was thinking, spilt, if you're lp is only 10 days then it's really not too long to wait is it? You could poas on Friday. Do your temps normally fall on the day af is due? Because if they stay up on FRiday that could be a good omen.

hippie, hope you are still de-stressing.
decaf, how's the resolution?

OP posts:
hippychick66 · 06/05/2010 13:26

ifatfirst How are you doing? Does it look like you're ovulating yet?? Meant to say sorry to hear that you had had bad news and forgot to say it before.

IfAtFirstUDontSucceed · 06/05/2010 17:57

Thanks hippychick66
I'm not sure whats happening . The OPKs are now negative and have been since Tuesday when I expected to Ov by, however fertility friend doesnt think I have.

Temps have remaind very slightly higher (on average about .20c) but there was no obvious shift.

I've either not Ov'd this month because of other issues (will keep checking in case it is still to come) or I'm rubbish at charting
Hopefully it's the latter as we BD'd pretty much every day when I should have Ov'd

Will just have to wait and see!

IfAtFirstUDontSucceed · 07/05/2010 18:32

Right, fertility friend has now decided that I did actually ovuate! So apparently I'm now 5DPO, which is good because we BD'd at the right time.

It's given me a test date and everything heehee. Now for the wishing the days away........

LittleSilver · 07/05/2010 18:53

Ifatfirst, you are obviously me as the exact same thing has happened to me! When's your test date?
