Hi all, old and new, this is the thread where all moaning, pieces of tmi, discussions and virtual cups of tea and biscuits come together to keep us sane .. or at the least insane together!

OP posts:
Effilump · 11/02/2010 12:33

LeeWT thats brilliant, so pleased its going great for you.
sam and sarah Congratulations!!!

Unbuffy · 11/02/2010 14:12

Blimey, it's got all positive in here! Great news; congrats and happy thoughts all round to the sticky sticky masses!

Muser, good luck hon, I do hope it's good news. If you do need to have an erpc though, don't worry about the proceedure as it's relatively easy (although heartbreaking). No real help I know, but rooting for good news.

Cheepz · 11/02/2010 14:38

viv on monitor question ... it will show high for a few days running up to peak and then you will get 3 peak days - the first means you will ovulate in the next 36 - 48 hours, the second is because you are still in that window, the third is bcause if you ovulated right at the end of that window your egg might still be viable on the third day. When I got pregnant last month we did the business on the first peak day. Its not exact but if you SWI on the first two peak days - or all three if you can muster the enthusiasm thats the best way. I always reckon on the 1st day being most important though because if it happens in next 48 hours chances are little swimmers will be hanging out looking for an egg to fertilise

leewt as i said next door - woot woot

muser don't know much about ectopics but our friend boodle does if she is around. hope things work out ok

VivClicquot · 11/02/2010 15:35

Cheers Cheepz. I guess I'm a bit dubious as we SWI on the day that I got a positive OPK result last month and that didn't seem to work (although to be fair - we were pissed, stuffed and knackered after DH's birthday meal so it was hardly the shag of the century!), so am wondering what the mechanics are (as it were).

Also, I'm a bit sceptical as I've been told you should not use your first morning wee to test as the LH surge happens during the day, yet the Monitor suggests you should do it first thing...

Lee - that's fab news.

Cheepz · 11/02/2010 19:13

it might be then that the surge is the day before?

I only ever used the monitor not the sticks but first 2 cycles we swi on 2nd day - got pg when we did it on the first peak! know what you mean about sub standard swi!!! sometime you know you have to but your bellys so full you really would rather not!!

Muser · 11/02/2010 19:35

I heard back from the hospital. My HCG levels are now over 1000 so I'm being scanned tomorrow. I asked the nurse point blank if there was any hope, she said there really wasn't. So I'm just being scanned to find out whether it's a mmc or an ectopic. That's not much of a choice.

What can I expect during the scan? I've never had one before. And what happens afterwards?

liahgen66 · 11/02/2010 19:52

muser I'm so sorry you are having to go through this.

My only piece of real advice to be (maybe a little too ) honest is do not watch the screen. My dreams and indeed waking hours are haunted by the little lifeless shape lying at the bottom of my womb. It's happened to me twice and I can still to this day 5 and hlaf years later still see the first little one. Not to mention the one a couple weeks ago.

I know it can be tempting to search and search for that little flicker that tells you the heart is beating but if it's not there, it's the worst moment ever. If you are lucky, the sonographer will tell you don't worry about that.

Scan itself is no problem, they may want to internally scan you but it's no biggie, think dildo and a condom was how someone described it to me, (she wasn't wrong). It's not painful physically.

Hopefully the best of a horrible situation is that your little bean is at least in the womb and not one of your tubes and they will be able to physically sort you out fairly quickly. (so sorry, terrible turn of phrase)

take it easy and hope it goes as well as it can tomorrow.

Umn hugs (((())))

Moofold · 11/02/2010 19:57

Wow - lots of good news since I last checked in. Congrats to Sarah and Sam and lovely news for Lee too. That has cheered me up a little - there is hope for us all!!

Muser, sorry you are going through such a rough time. Not sure how far on you are so they will either give you an internal or an ultrasound scan. I can only tell you about my experience which involved going for a routine 12 week scan, being told that they couldn't see my womb properly and would need to do an internal instead. This involves a charming dildo looking thing with a condom over it being used but its painless enough. Then the sonographer told me that there was no heartbeat and baby had died several weeks earlier. After they gave us some time alone then took us to speak with a midwife who let us know our options. My heart goes out to you.

Moofold · 11/02/2010 20:06

Should have asked in earlier post - needing some advice please girls.

I am at cycle day 23 and still no fecking ovulation. I have been furiously using OPKs and taking my temperature all to no avail; negative and no temperature increase. My cyles have never been great anyway - but my question is are there any hormones left from MC that could be affecting the OPK or temperature. Its been 9 weeks since MC.

Appreciate any advice on this as am feeling really hacked off that I won't ever get pg again

Liah - our identical descriptions of the internal scan at least raised a smile!

Cheepz · 11/02/2010 20:08

So I gave in and did a test, its sooo faint you would miss it if you weren't looking, but it is definitely there ... that would be a BFP!! [tentative smile]

given what happened last month - at CD32 I am going to hold off celebrating and want to do another test tomorrow to see if its for sure. But its looking promising

muser so sorry for your loss and what you are going through. Its so tragic, but we have all gone through various wringers and are here to hold your hand if you want to. Best xxx

northlondonchoclover · 11/02/2010 20:40

Sam & sarah - Congratulations!

Cheepz - a faint positive is still a positive , am rooting for you here

Muser - so sorry to hear about your loss..

Cheepz & Viv - which ovulation monitor are you using? I've never used any so have to clue which brand etc. So far I have just been guessing when I might ovulate, and get on with it Recently I have been studying the cervical mucus a bit more for clues (sorry if TMI!) but doesn't look anything like what its supposed to look like

p/s is it possible to ovulate on CD16??

randomimposter · 11/02/2010 20:54

cheepz and lee have posted on the grads thread but worth another WOOHOO here to you both.

muser so sorry, recognise you from the buses. Agree with liah on the screen thing... awful memory.

Hope everyone else doing alright.

Cheepz · 11/02/2010 21:19

northlondon thanks, re: monitors I use the Clearblue Fertility Monitor (CBFM) which uses about 10 sticks per cycle if you have a pretty normal length cycle. It tells you when you have a high chance of ovulating and when you are ovulating so have peak chances of getting pregnant, I was using CM before but was finding that the EWCM you find which is suposed to show you are ovulating was actually at its peak a couple of days before the monitor say so. I tried after first mc for 5 cycles without - was using persona but that gives much wider window! Have used CBFM for 4 cycles with this being the fourth and in the last two I have basically got pregnant by SWI on the first Peak day (although this month we did 2 days before by accident ) as for CD16 - that was my first Peak day this month hence AF due tomorrow. Given faintness of BFP and my proclivity to have early mc's I am not allowing myself to get too overexcited. But the monitor defo seems like it was a good investment for me ...

wow epic - I should be in advertising...

boodleboot · 11/02/2010 21:43

OMFG....cheepz......i am utterly and magnificently delighted.........

Muser · 11/02/2010 21:48

Lovely news Cheepz!

clareanna · 11/02/2010 21:50

fab news Cheepz!
Muser - agree with the advice not to look at the screen - will be thinking of you.

Hopefully · 11/02/2010 22:20

Congrats Cheepz! And others who I've missed from not checking in for a few days... So lovely to return to good news! I haven't put you on the grads list yet in case you want to wait for a stronger test result tomorrow...

Muser sorry you're having a crappy time. Really hope it's not too upsetting having the scan.

I'm generally trying to avoid thinking about TTC at the moment. Will resume SWI in a few days, when AF properly clears off, but am feeling less optimistic that it will all be quick and easy.

Can't see a thursday list, so will quickly update before it becomes friday!

thanks hopefull - not ready to go to grads list just yet ...

Cheepz · 12/02/2010 08:44

morning update, did anothe test - inconclusive as DS kicked off and I didn't get to read it in time!! faint line is rpesent but may well have come up after 'allowed time' - what are peoples thoughts on that? Still not ready for grads

internet cheapies so not sure if might be quality issues?

hope all have good day,

littlemiss72 · 12/02/2010 09:14

Morning all, hope your all keeping well.

cheepz wait another day, do another test. Looks positive though, a line is a line! x

Week today since my erpc, feeling very life can be real crap sometimes! Would have been my 12 scan Monday to, I have a long weekend off and hope to get through it as best I can.

Have good day all.

VivClicquot · 12/02/2010 09:20

Cheepz, just so you know, I'm doing a very discreet 'Go Jerry, go Jerry, go Jerry, go Jerry' dance on your behalf. Only a discreet one mind - I'll save the full blown one until you've done a non-cheapie test...

Day 10 here. Had a bit of a cry this morning as I was listening to Radio One and the sports reader was going off on maternity leave. I was in the year above her at university doing the same course, and I'm absolutely thrilled for her - but at the same time, keep thinking I should be on maternity leave too.

Anyway it's Friday, it's a gorgeous day, so no more maudlin...

xxx

Goodluckbear · 12/02/2010 10:44

Viv - where in the country are you? Maybe I should head there for a "gorgeous day" - drizzling here, bah, there had better be chocolates on Valentine's Day!! Big hugs for the down moments.

Cheepz - I'm rigid at my desk with excitment (would shout out but office is quite and "focused" today so may seem out of place - I am focused too of course, just on other things). Update soon? Still a line!!

Muser - good luck .

Littlemiss - life is crap sometimes - the guy next to me at work said the very same thing this morning as his washing machine has broken. I was like yeah, that's awful, thinking "you've no idea mate, try having a miscarriage at the same time as your washing machine breaks down, freezer breaks down and flat leaks into flat below. And then have your shower break down, and heating has just broken and we've got mice. But yeah, really sorry about your WASHING MACHINE".

(I didn't say it out loud, I said it with my eyes.....)

Big wave to everyone else, hope it's a nice weekend - bringing out the Friday cakes!!

xxxxxxxxxxx

VivClicquot · 12/02/2010 11:21

Manchester. Admittedly, it's clouded over a bit since I was en route to work, but the sentiment is still there. Especially if you're offering cakes!

AlbaDeTamble · 12/02/2010 12:27

Hello all...

Don't know what the weather's like here, still haven't opened the shutters...
LittleMiss am also 1 week post ERPC, have been up and about and madly going about 'normal' life (not up to work yet, but have got as far as food shopping, taxi driving teenage DSCs, homework nagging, toddler calming and all the rest of normal home-life, where I'll just be ignored if I lose it at any point) and last night I lost it, and realised I just wanted to crawl back to bed again and cry.

Sorry, over my little personal misery-fest now and time to face the world... I thought I'd start by updating the list, then will take a look outside and get moving.

Cheepz quiet, positive, sticky thoughts for you - will leave you to update yourself list-wise, but really happy for you

Sarahmum thanks for the answer on the sticks -- it had really confused me, and now the penny's dropped for why this is the 'what the f*' cycle...

Muser thinking of you today, can't think of anything to help just now, but big un-MN hugs for you and the chocolate's here if you need it

goodluckbear your post made me laugh and cry... our roof leaked pretty badly after the last lot of snow, the insurance company refused to pay up (sheer weight of snow would have been ok, frozen pipes are excluded on the small print though, so melting snow ingress under the tiles isn't covered -- not quite sure why we have accidental damage cover, since gallons of water gushing through the ceiling is apparently deemed to be no accident???), and the man from pest control has just finished dealing with the mice that had boldly ventured in, deciding traps were a risk worth taking given the unseasonably cold winter... silly things ate all the poison though, thankfully....

moofold I've been madly googling what on earth happens to hormones following mc, given my experience with +ve OPKs this week -- from what I can gather, it's HCG that stops any other normal monthly hormonal changes. Once it drops to zero (half life 12 hrs, so can take days or even weeks), your normal cycle can start again... so I figured a pg test every few days (today's was much feinter) will let me know when I'm back to the equiv of CD1... though maybe wishful thinking that I could be quite so in control... I have no doubt it will be anything but normal from then... though I think cheepz is our living proof that it can be done on the wtf cycle... go cheepz (whispered)
