thats rotten for you paddington sorry for you, and af on top of your car situation. I have to say I've had the worst period I've had in ages this time, and its lasted longer! Anyway hope you get your car fixed soon x

stac hi, I'm ok. just been having a bit of a difficult phase with our DD, going through that "if you say black I'll sat white" syndrome. It's very wearing as DH has been off on holiday this last week, we've been trying to organise some nice days out but DD has kicked up such resistance and we actually had to drag her kicking and screaming onto the beach - what child doesn't want to go to the beach? it did cross my mind she might be going down with something, she seems ok otherwise. WHo knows?? anyway sorry for my rant!

hope everyone else well x

paddington21 · 21/08/2009 17:01

stac14 · 22/08/2009 20:48

peju hope you get a bfp chick, I have had af for 2 weeks its doing me head in lol

clure how long do you have left of the hols, ds just finished first week and is already in 2 footy teams, so I am now a soccer mom

KiwiKat · 22/08/2009 23:06

Hi everyone, sorry to hear that you've been having a rough couple of days with cars blowing up, feisty dd and very unwelcome AFs. To answer the question about egg sharing, I'm afraid I'm probably far too old for that, at 43. Can anyone recommend a safe but cheap way to get ivf done? They've quoted us £3500. Ouch!

stac14 · 22/08/2009 23:17

kiwikat thats the only way I have been told we could get it cheaper, what about iui? Its cheaper but probs not as effective. Do you already have kids?

KiwiKat · 22/08/2009 23:27

Hi Stac, I've got a 3 year old ds.

Clure · 23/08/2009 11:12

hi kiwi your situation sounds pretty similar to mine. I already have DD who is 4 and I'm having much more trouble ttc a possible number 2. I'll be 42 next month.I'm not sure if ivf would be an option as my blood tests show low egg supply - these are things I will need to discuss with consultant in a few weeks at my appoinment. Its frustrating isn't it, especially as the clock ticks louder. Hope you get some answers about the ivf.

stac at you soccer mom! Thats so sweet. my DD starts school on 7th but I've got 2 staff development days at my school before this so DD is back off to nursery- think she'll like this!!

shrekmissis sometimes its good just to take a break, its the emotional rollercoaster as well as the physical one!

Its a gorgeous day, just come back from a 12k run- it was a bit hot though! Have a good weekend all

paddington21 · 23/08/2009 12:05

hey all, well stac tankini shopping was a big fat failure! so back to the drawing board may just wear bikini and shove a vest over it. its only for swimming just not feeing like i want to get my stomach out at the moment. only indoor pool for a weekend away in wiltshire- not very exciting.
we are planning an abroad hols next year dp doesnt really going abroad and i dont always want to holiday in sunny old england. so we rotate abroad every other year.

shrekmissus- agree with clure sometimes you need some time out and hey you might be lucky.

clure- 12k i feel bad im only going to the supermarket.

hey kiwi that does sound a lot of money but ive heard you could pay up to 7 grand! im sorry i dont really know of any alternative treatments- not very clued up tbh.

hope and dust- yet another massive post i do apologise!

fruitbowl · 23/08/2009 14:14

Hi Gals! Been lurking for a while but thought I'd say Hi and good luck to everyone.

I'm on my LAST PACKET! Kind of sad but kind of relieved, looking forward to coming off the little yellow buggers. Headaches and angryshouty mummy symptoms and they';ve made me eat loads of cakes, biscuits and choc. I had nothing to do with it. It was the tabs.

Any of you experienced a really light and short AF while on the clomid? I'm convinced the tabs have reduced the thickness of my lining as my AF loss is about a quarter of it's normal flow. Hardly even enough to wear a tampon (soz - TMI?!). Just wonderin if any of you had the same?

Good luck all (off to raid the biscuit tin - again...)

Clure · 23/08/2009 18:21

hi fruitbowlnot sure I can offer much in the way of an answer about light af. Mine generally light and short last few years, not sure if thats a hormonal/old thing. I'm sure others maybe able to shed some light.
Wishing you all the luck in the world this cycle x

stac14 · 24/08/2009 15:58

Hey ladies
How are you all today? I got the metformin from my gp, so will be starting it tonight, side effects dont look too good (sickness and the other)

Hey fruitbowl Mine varied during my time on clomid but a lot of the time it was really heavy but think that was the progesterone

Hope everyone is well xxx

AttilaTheMeerkat · 24/08/2009 16:37

Stac

I have no personal experience of taking Metformin but from reading about others who have, you need to take this gradually. It can indeed cause bowels to play up.

FifiForgot · 24/08/2009 18:02

Sorry to gatecrash your thread, but I have taken Metformin, twice.

It does indeed play havoc with your bowels. Its best to introduce gradually, 1 tablet a day for a week, then 2 for a week, then 3 (I was on 1500mgs per day). I found that I got "stuck" on 2 for a couple of weeks, my body just couldn't cope with 3, but I got there eventually. You need to take them 3 times a day, morning, lunch and evening, not, like I tried this time round, all in one go! Don't worry if you find it hard to move up to the next level, just give it a couple more days.

I had the metformin in conjunction with clomid the first time round, resulting in DD (3.5) and this last time, on its own while waiting to see my Fertility Consultant - baby is due in January (I only managed to get to 2 tablets)! So, in my experience, it is a wonder drug! It has the great (in my opinion) side effect of helping you loose weight.

I hope you don't mind me butting in, but I was sort of left in the dark the first time I was prescribed it and advice was very helpful.

Good Luck

saraross · 25/08/2009 10:33

Hiya
My name is Sara.
I was diagnosed with pcos at the age of 22, I have been trying to concieve for a year now with my husband.I also have underactive thyroid which i take levonthyroxine for.
I am now 24 and am of normal weight, i definately have noticed more hair growth since being off the pill and an increase in acne.
I have been on metformin for a month now and am due to start clomid on the 2nd day of my period.
Have you taken clomid yet? any success stories out there???

saraross · 25/08/2009 10:34

sorry if i have already posted but i cant find where i last posted and my system is saying im not on any threads so i havnt seen my replies!!

stac14 · 25/08/2009 19:49

Hi ladies
Thanks for letting me know how it goes fifi that has given me a boost. I took it last night for the first time and didnt feel too bad. gp suggested I take it in the middle of my dinner, looking forward to the loosing weight part lol

Hi sara welcome to the thread, how are you finding the metformin? I also have pcos and an underactive thyroid. I took clomid for 6 months on its own and only ov'd once so now I will be taking it with the metformin. There have been loads of success stories on here so keep positive.

Thanks atilla I was prescribed as alread have ds so can't get anymore treatment on NHS so hoping this helps

How are the rest of you ladies? peju you have good will power waiting till September

baby dust to all *

KiwiKat · 25/08/2009 23:37

Evening all, and welcome Sara.

My latest adventure is all about progesterone. Something on the 40+ thread (I can't recommend it highly enough, for anyone who'd like to join us) made me check out my temps etc, and everything adds up to me having low progesterone levels. I rang the clinic to find out what my progesterone level was, only to find out that they had no record at all, despite having done so many blood and urine tests etc four months ago when they first prescribed clomid. Luckily I could go in this morning for a blood test, as I am cd22 today, but I am NOT happy. If it does turn out that my progesterone levels are low, then that's four months wasted when we could have been that much further down the track. Or maybe the levels are fine, but I'm pretty cross that they either didn't test for it, or have lost the information. And as they're talking about us starting the IVF process in Oct/Nov, I'm really keen to do everything possible to get pregnant before that. (Apologies to Fruit, who will have seen my rant about this already.)

paddington21 · 26/08/2009 09:40

hey all, kiwi that is blooming awful! i hope your levels are good- fingers crossed.
not realy any news here just finished rattling with clomid for this month. i think dp and i are going to have a month off next month- need a break am sick of feeling down, miserable and frustrated. not that i probably would feel different after a month off but hey we can dream.

hope the metiform is treating you nicely stac

hello fifi and sara.

hey clure!

peju i admire your willpower

dust x x

stac14 · 26/08/2009 10:05

Hwy paddington Its been fine so far, I must admit I am a bit reluctant to use the clomid again cos of the way it makes me feel. So I am giving myself a month to let the metformin get into my system then I will go back on clomid.

kiwi thats terrible do they not check your progesterone levels every month cos of the clomid? It was the way they monitored my ovulation, but you have got me thinking about whether I should query my levels being checked.

Hows everyone else? xxx

Clure · 26/08/2009 11:04

kiwi I have low progesterone levels too. not sure what levels are, they've been rechecked and will find out when see consultant in a few weeks. However I knew that my progesterone levels were low before I got pregnant with DD and somehow the clomid helped and i fell pregnant first time. Its strange isn't it? Having said that I was 37 and now I'm nearly 42 and fertility does decline quite drastically in these years. Hopefully though now it has been identified (makes me cross when they miss something as fundamental as checking ALL hormone levels) hopefully it can be addressed

Hi paddington (big hug)

hi stac, hopefully the metformin will work for you x

I'm hoping I'll ovulate in next couple of days - fingers crossed
hi all x
