dh and I are having a last push at ttc. we are giving it either a year or another mc before we give up (haven't told gp ) so i have decided to reopen the anti-testing thread!

OP posts:

I too have heard that evap lines are greyish - so can see you're worry. What was the sensitivity of the tests? Was one more sensitive than the other?
I would hang on and see - my friend had 2 negatives at 2 weeks late before her positive.
Don't want to raise your hopes but it does seem odd.

Joycey29 · 27/03/2009 08:18

Got this from www.peeonastick.com What's an evaporation line? Evaporation ("evap") lines result with the test's antibody strip just looks slightly different than the space around it. There is a line of antibodies (usually made from mouse cells) in the Control and Test section. The Control line binds with any liquid and turns pink (or blue, in tests using blue dye.) The Test/Result line turns pink only if pregnancy hormone is detected. If not, the moisture passes over this strip and does not turn pink. It may, however, become more visible when the light hits the moisture on the strip it may appear gray, colorless, like a "dent" in the test, or like a "ghost line." It may appear at any time as soon as the urine hits it, after a few minutes as the test absorbs the moisture, or after the 10-minute time limit. It may appear when the test is drying, or after it has dried. It may disappear as the test is drying, or after the test has dried, or not disappear at all.

shirleyc · 27/03/2009 08:19

no idea of the sensitivity of test one was tecos which showed 2 lines the other was clearblue digital. Ive tried taking a pic or you to see but cant suss out this darn camera, the line is def pink no doubt about that.

Joycey29 · 27/03/2009 08:23

if you still have the packet it will tell you on there.
just found this on peeonastick.com

A line that appears after 10 minutes, regardless of color, must be considered an evap line and is caused by the test's chemicals changing. HPT's are rapid assay diagnostics, which means any results appearing after the "rapid" time limit of 10 minutes are invalid.
Sorry - not helpful!!!
It's a useful website for info on hpt's

Joycey29 · 27/03/2009 08:25

Sensitivity - A test that measures a smaller amount of hCG is more sensitive than a test that measures a larger amount of hCG-- so a test that detects 20 mIU/mL of hCG is "better" (more sensitive) than a test that detects 40 mIU/mL.

shirleyc · 27/03/2009 08:27

yup i read all of that to, lol i suppose i should resign myself to 'theres not a chance' never mind. ill get over it.
thanks anyway, as someone on anoter thread said most my symptoms are probably pmt related so af is prob on her way. I'd certainly be suprised as i said that im imagining the sypmtoms but as ive never been pregnant i suppose i wouldnt really know. thanks though joycey.

Joycey29 · 27/03/2009 08:33

It is so hard - hang on a few days and it all may look different - you weren't going to test for a few days anyway - Af may turn up saving you money - you may decide to retest - but hang on for the moment.
I know it's not easy but honestly there is nothing you can do either way at the moement..

shirleyc · 27/03/2009 08:37

yep i know, i was planning on testing on 28th but not going to till sunday at least i think. Im gonna buy some of those cheap ebay tests so i have some in the house rather than wasting this clear blue i have left. Which ones are the best value for money?

Joycey29 · 27/03/2009 08:39

Not sure I was lucky (or not) enough to get some first responses from a friend. Sorry can't help here..

shirleyc · 27/03/2009 08:58

www.pregnancy-health-center.com/early-pregnancy-tests.html

Joycey using that link if you want obviously, scroll down to test pictures, there 3 pics of first response all in one section, my test look like the 11dpo pm test, the lines the same if not slightly darker.? Now this is why im not giving up omg now im getting obsessive arent I! sorrryyyyyyy.

anyway i wont talk about it any more i promise.

Joycey29 · 27/03/2009 09:04

I can see what you mean - it's a difficult one! I completely understand why you are stressing!
Try not to worry!

shirleyc · 27/03/2009 09:07

its ok seeing Dr this morning will see what he says. going to take dh with me, he doesnt know that yet! LOl

Joycey29 · 27/03/2009 09:08

Good plan! LOL at dh!Take care!

PistachioLemon · 27/03/2009 09:19

Morning Shirley, sorry I couldn't get on earlier. What a nightmare for you. I can see why you're confused. Hopefully the doctor can help, or if you wait a few days, as Joycey said, re-test (or AF will show).

I got some of those cheapy ebay tests for exactly the same reason - it's nice to have them in the house if you just can't help yourself and need to test but they so cheap you don't feel like you're wasting money. It was £16 or so for any combination of 100 ov tests and pg tests and I got 80 ov and 20 pg. They are supposed to be the same as the ones the NHS use but to be quite honest I have my doubts ... but they satisfy my testing need so I don't care!

Anyhow, I'm thinking of you. x

shirleyc · 27/03/2009 09:37

morning pistachio hows the non smoking going?

Im going to buy some of those tests today if i can, not wasting the clearblue one. Plan on showing my gp my test then explaning whats happened see what he says, let him take blood etc. Ive just woken dh and told him he is coming with me bless. Working at 12 today so may come on line after docs if he gives me good news, if he says nah your not pregnant' i'll prob not come on till tommorrow.

Cheers

PistachioLemon · 27/03/2009 10:01

Good luck at the docs - hope it goes well. I'll be around today if you want to chat and probably some of tomorrow. Hope you're ok?
x

P.S. Non-smoking's going ok - you?

shirleyc · 27/03/2009 11:24

ok Docs was waste of time!
Anyway i bought a non digital test from Lloyds on way home and thought sod it, ill test again, an lo and behold (def within 10 mins this time!) i have a very faint blue line. DH says he can see a line but it is faint.
It is very faint so im not testing again now for a few days its decided! DH says its becomming obsessive and i agree it is!
So hey ho of to work now back tommorrow byeeee and thanks

ps smoking going great day 3 now! How about you?

PistachioLemon · 27/03/2009 11:29

Well, I don't want to get your hopes up but a line's a line isn't it? And if it's very faint it may be just very early. Although I do know next to nothing about these things so please don't take my word for gospel.

Day three and doing good - woohooo!

Blocka · 27/03/2009 13:13

A line is a line. You now have two tests with faint lines. I had exactly the same, and I was pg.

I too know nothing about these things, but I think things are looking good for you. I ened up buying one of the tsts that actually say 'pregnant' or 'not pregnant' - expensive, but I saw it in writing! might be worth a shot if you are stressing (I know exactly how you feel, bought 10 10miu tests off ebay for £5 and was testing everyday!!!)

Joycey29 · 27/03/2009 13:27

Hoping for you shirley but as far as I know a line is a line is a line!

nunnie · 27/03/2009 19:05

I agree with Blocka shirley, if you can afford it do a digital test then there is no doubt.

Good luck and it does sound very promising .

shirleyc · 27/03/2009 21:05

ok guys, i did a digital test this morning that was gthe one that said 'not pregnant'

Have had some bleeding today tmi was thick brown cm same as yesterday and now is slightly red but not enough to call a period so i really dont know whats happening with my body.

Planned on saving the digital one till middle of next week or beyond. I suppose it all depends if this bleeding turns into af or not.
I'm going to keep an eye on the bleeding and see what happens overnight i dont have any pains just lower back ache. I cant even begin to accept that i am pg irrelevant of the 2 lines because the digi one said 'not pregnant' (allthough this seems common looking online?) and because of this bleeding thing thats happening.

Had a total crap day at work today and been super emotional and very teary. Felt sick all day and the one thing i love marmite, thought id have some on toast and it tasted like washing up liquid!? I dont know whats going on arghhhhhh.

PistachioLemon · 27/03/2009 21:33

Oh Shirley, how crap. I really really hope it's not af showing her ugly head. [hugs]. Again, I don't want to get your hopes up too much but I did read somewhere that the digital ones are not as sensitive as some of the others. I guess you'll know soon either way, but it must be horrible for now. x

shirleyc · 27/03/2009 21:47

heya, been looking it up, i dont have any cramps or anything just bleeding, lightly so keeping eye on it, no clots so far or anything, just lower dull back ache.. Seems bleeding in early stages of pg is normal? I dont know.
For now i cant do anything just sit and wait so dh has paid for a nice takeaway and im sitting munching chips, not good and healthy i know but seeing as ive felt sick non stop for 2 days and overall like 5 days or so i need food
On a plus note if it is af, which makes no sense with pos results it means i can be ready to try again next month!
And as stupid as this might sound i just want to know either way now, i havent known how to feel now for 2 days.

Liskey · 27/03/2009 22:10

Enjoy your chips Shirley.

Hope its not AF but if it is then you trying to look on the positive side and I know how difficult that is.
