TTC - Clomid Thread

1000 replies

MamaMaiasaura · 16/01/2009 23:09

Hi just wondered if people ttc on Clomid wanted to join this thread unless i have been stupid and missed one.

We are due to fertility clinic on 22nd and expect to go on clomid again.

We have 2 dc. Ds1 is nearly 9 and was concieved without fertility help. THis was a big surprise as have PCOS and was told would never conceive naturally.

Ds2 was conceived after 1 course of clomid 50mg. My day 21 test was awful and still no period after 45ish day. Was put on progesterone to induce bleed. Didnt happen as was pregnant.

Was also on metformin but not currently, waiting for all clear next week. I have dodgy lft generally on medication and also bfing.

Ds2 is 1 now and still breastfeeding. Hoping this will not hinder any treatment as really want to continue this too. I am now 33 so fertility decreasing too.

I dont have a cd currently as all up the shoot so waiting to see what happens really.

Wow!. Don't normally do forum stuff, mainly because my spelling is so shocking, but I have stubbled across this thread by mistake. I'm glad I did. I am on my first course of clomid and have been feeling really alone. My partner is totally supportive, but he doesn't understand. Friends etc are great but 6 of them are pregnant!!.

Reading some of the messages on here have really put me at ease and made me realise I'm not alone and there are folks out there going through the same thing as me. So I thank you ladies and good luck to you all.

PS I take a test tomorrow so fingers crossed!

Clure · 06/04/2009 21:09

westkazze lots and lots of luck to you x

mummycat1 · 06/04/2009 21:13

Hello all you newbies!

Fifi go with option 2 if you can. Scans are very helpful.

Awen have you had another scan now? good luck

Paddington my FC says no baths around ov as they dry up CM - good luck

Clure wow - well done - you are sounding pretty perky at the mo apart from the hot flushes! Hormones are crap, yet we long for the return of AF when she goes AWOL don't we?

Stac14 thanks for the chocolate tip. That is seriosuly important info for our holiday! We always hide chocolately things for the DCs on Easter day and then they go hunting for them.

DH is stressed. It's the hols but he's still got loads of work to do and he has just confessed that he is worrying about taking DD on holiday - so many scary unknowns.

Easter baby dust

MamaMaiasaura · 06/04/2009 22:10

My goodness it has been busy on here! Lots of new names popping up too. I hope Attila drops by Fifi as she has fab advice. Re the PCOS and clomid, I conceived ds1 without any intervention, ds2 cycle 1 of 50 mg clomid and metformin. Am ttc #3 1st cycle 100mg, this cycle 150mg and not working by the looks of it.

Right had scan @ counted about 20 follicles on right ovary and lots on left. None very big all around 6mm and typical of PCOS. So as convinced myself i was oving as achey and discharge etc. Have nice thickening of womb lining though. Am awaiting on consultant to contact me after speaking to paediatrician about me taking metformin and breatfeeding. She seems to think metformin may help me but concerned on effect when bfing. might have to leave the interventions till stopped feeding but she also concerned as im 34 soon. Discussed putting up to 200mg on clomid but again she only usuually goes up to 150mg and if it doesnt work then is very unlikely any higher dose will. She is great though and said there is no time limit of seeing us. I asked the whole questions of what if this really doenst work and she said injections but referred to another trust for funding and only get 3 courses. Wont get ivf as already a mum. I also asked her for my blood results from January which are fsh 6.3 LH10.4 (raised typical of PCO), Estradril 96 and Testosterone 2.1. So despite bfeeding the results are ok and doesnt look like it is having an impact.

Sorry this post is all mememe.. dp isnt home tonight and not got a chance to offload to him at all and just need to get out the arrgghhh. Have wonderful friends (many of whom are pregnant) and i am so happy for them but just wish i was joining them. Also I love my boys dearly and am so lucky to have them and really dont want to miss good times with them feeling bad.

Sorry for vent

Hello Everyone!

Thank you all so much for your warm welcome and for all the really helpful and detailed advice.. it's like finally meeting a bunch of sane people in a world full of mad ones!! i read what you've all said and it's in MY language!!! it's so good to get a realistic view of clomid, the highs and lows and side effects.. i think option number two will be the next way forward as so many of you have suggested.. the reason my NHS clinic has a waiting list for clomid is because they prefer to monitor those on it with scans and bloods.. i can go privately to get it sooner.. will investigate this evening and make some calls tomorrow.. i know i should be more upbeat.. maybe i've waited too long.. i've had to make a point of killing all hope as that's the thing that drives me mad and hurts so much.. i don't get cross with people who say stupid or thoughtless stuff to me anymore.. they have no idea of what this is like.. i never did and i hope they never do.. this is a special kind of torture.. what gets me is how isolated it makes you.. you subconciously avoid situations that upset you.. so your circle gets smaller and smaller..yet in a scenario where it's you and a new mum or pregnant person why is it we're the second class citizen and it's up to us to fake the smile and make them feel ok.. it's like being a ttc-ee makes other people feel uncomfortable.. not sure where to put all that...
anyway.. that's my rant over.. hope it will be ok to come back in a while and join the CD list..
good luck everyone

I would say option 2 as well after further consultatation with the specialists. I'd also be looking at a second opinion along with finding another clinic to work with. Think you have been poorly served to date.

Would urge you not to go down the timed intercourse route as this has been shown to do relationships serious harm!. It can and does cause all sorts of problems. Do not even entertain the idea!!.

With best wishes

Attila

Ladies

Am sorry I have not been around for the last couple of days; this was due to my net connection being broken.

I am only around today as will be on holiday for the next week.

Wishing you all a very Happy Easter break.

Clomid is given for a usual max time of 6 cycles after which time other treatments should be looked at.

Do not take this without monitoring and certainly do not self prescribe. It is powerful stuff.

Do you have a definitive diagnosis as of now, has anyone else confirmed PCOS. I see they have mentioned PCOS previously.

any other questions just ask, I am around for today.

Attila

amelied · 07/04/2009 11:08

Morning Girls - on for your valuable advice.

Had a hospital appointment yesterday - I had to go for a scan to look at my uterus as they have only seen it when I was pregnant or miscarrying. This is my second month on Clomid.

The Doctor showed me the screen and the uterus in a non-pregnant state should be like a white ghostly-like line. Mine is that plus a small dark blob type in it. I then had an internal scan as a double check.

She asked me if I could be possibly be pregnant (I was on Day 16 yesterday) so I said not to my knowledge as I had taken a digital pregnancy test on Day 28 last month and had a period the following day. So I then had to give a urine sample to test which said I wasn't pregnant.

She has told me not too worry that it maybe a polyp (sp?). The scan pictures are now going to my Fertility Consultant.

Has anyone had experience of this??

Westkazza · 07/04/2009 13:13

Welcome to the thread Westkazza sorry to hear about BFN, hope you find some support here. I was the same as you and never used forums before but found this one when I was researching clomid and loved th fact that it was women in the same situation as me. Kind of makes the way people actr around us a bit more bearable. I have also found this helps me not to bore or annoy my friends and family with the ttc stuff as you say they feel uncomfortable about.

Awen you sound really down at the moment, how soon will you know if they will put you on metformin? Hope you feel better soon xxx

mummycat is this her first trip abroad? I was the same when I took DS away when he was 3, it was scary but he loved it, the plane and everything was like a big adventure for him, hope you have a great trip

sgibbo wow testing on easter sunday that would be a lovely easter egg lol

Atilla lovely to hear from you, how have you been?

AttilaTheMeerkat · 07/04/2009 16:05

Hi stac14

Nice of you to ask after me.

Am feeling okay now thank you for asking. Now have internet connection back and am off on my hols tomorrow!. I will be back in about a weeks time.

Wishing you and all on here a very Happy Easter.

Attila xx

stac14 · 07/04/2009 16:42

Hey Atilla Are you off somewhere nice? hope you have a lovely time and a great easter x

Clure · 07/04/2009 17:00

Hi all,

stac REALLY suffering the sweats/flushes especially at night, I have to strip off the duvet then i get cold, then have another sweat then cold etc

Attila have a good hols

Awen you rant away that is why we are here and we understand. You, stac and westkazza all seem to be coming from the place where I'm coming from - have only occasionally dipped into other threads but feel part of the "family" on this one! Anyway Awen hope you feel better soon. Its tough when you've got to make decisions for your future but trying to look after your family, sorry that probably doesn't make much sense - just thinking about you bf at the same time as ttc and fertility issues. Hugs for you

Well our bathroom has been ripped out today and so the place is a tip. Off to the gym tonight just so as I can get a shower!!

AttilaTheMeerkat · 07/04/2009 17:03

Hi Stac,

we're going to Rome.

Have a good Easter everyone!.

Attila xx

islegrin · 07/04/2009 18:56

Stac - hope AF comes soon for you, I'm sure you are very tired of waiting for her arrival. Glad you liked the link!

How are you holding up?

paddington21 · 07/04/2009 19:55

Hi ladies, wow lots of messages to read to take my mind off moving.
Thank you for the advice about baths, I guess DP will have massage me with some relaxing oils instead... damn!!

Thank you also for making me feel much better about falling off the wagon- it's just too easy to be so strict and uptight about everything. I'm oddly just excited this month it's as if I've come to terms to with everything, I'm more positive and I'm just happy and excited. I'm not 100% convinced but if I had no doubts I feel that would be just as bad... sorry really long day I doubt this makes much sense.

Ahola! To all the newbies as I've said lots of times these women are amazingly supportive and their knowledge top notch.

Im not sure I'll be on until after the move now but when Im back I'm looking forward to good news hehe!

Hope everyone is well
Hope and dust everywhere x x

sissy0928 · 07/04/2009 20:10

Hi Ladies!! Just popping back in to see how everyone's doing....Nothing new here, I have some BW tonight, appt tomorrow at FC to get results and a 2nd scan, dr wants to see if there is one or two...

I'm wishing all of you the best and Baby Dust to everyone!!!

mummycat1 · 07/04/2009 20:32

Hello Sissy I'm glad you are still keeping in touch with us - it's really nice to know how you are getting on. Have you moved onto a pregnancy thread? Wonder how Cheekymonkey is getting on. I'm sure we'd all love to know.

Awen maybe bfing and TTC just don't go together? My FC wouldn't give me the clo when I was still bfing. I think it has a bigger effect on your hormones than you realise. I did manage to get pg whilst still bfing and it was very hard work. I was constantly exhausted and constantly hungry! I was looking forward to bfing two, but I miscarried. It was a blighted ovum I think. I carried on bfing DD till she was 2 and a bit. Your DS is younger so I understand why you want to carry on. I'm 34 and there are plenty of women around me who are older and pg or just had one or trying. Don't lose hope

Hope AF appears soon for Clure and Stac.

I'm exhausted. Still plenty of packing to do and a DD who has woken in the night a couple of times over the last week. She goes straight back to sleep - I don't.

My sister (6 months pg) is eager to see me again. She's making it really hard to avoid her! Had to listen to lots of baby stuff on the phone the other day. Coped ok.

We are going to see a Charlie and Lola exhibition tomorrow with DD and then having a little picnic if it's not too cold.

Apparently Poland is having warm weather at the mo 23C!!
