MamaMaiasaura · 16/01/2009 23:09

Hi just wondered if people ttc on Clomid wanted to join this thread unless i have been stupid and missed one.

We are due to fertility clinic on 22nd and expect to go on clomid again.

We have 2 dc. Ds1 is nearly 9 and was concieved without fertility help. THis was a big surprise as have PCOS and was told would never conceive naturally.

Ds2 was conceived after 1 course of clomid 50mg. My day 21 test was awful and still no period after 45ish day. Was put on progesterone to induce bleed. Didnt happen as was pregnant.

Was also on metformin but not currently, waiting for all clear next week. I have dodgy lft generally on medication and also bfing.

Ds2 is 1 now and still breastfeeding. Hoping this will not hinder any treatment as really want to continue this too. I am now 33 so fertility decreasing too.

I dont have a cd currently as all up the shoot so waiting to see what happens really.

Hi Awen, I am currently on clomid ( but for male issue subfertility - apparently super boosts fertility enough to compensate for poor swimmers sometimes!) Have just ovulated 2 days ago so on the 2WW! Also due to see a private consultant on 27th jan as nhs has washed its hands of us due to fact are not eligible for NHS IVF as already hve DS (7).

Hello any one else in the same situ, I shall pull up a pew and wait here patiently for the others

Alfiemax · 17/01/2009 17:25

Hi,
I was jsut about to start a thread. I'm new and a bit of a loner as just about to start clomid tomorrow for the first time.
Have been TTC for 5+ yrs and had our cons appt on 29th Dec.
At first it was reccomended we 'carry on trying' as it 'sometimes takes longer for some couples'. Patronising I know. Then the IVF suggestion was tossed about. We cannot afford that. Finally she offered us clomid. I have a wonderful DD 11 and DS 9. Fell straight away with them, but unfortunately mother nature just doesn't like me anymore.
Myself and DH have had all the tests and all have come back fine, so although the clomid holds no gaurantee it may give my body the kick up the ass it needs. I have quite short cycle anywhere from 18-24 days and a luteal phase of 9-12 days so not all that good. I'm hoping the clomid can increase this as I'm 99% sure I have a hormone imbalance. It would be lovely to share this experience with other women, both experienced and new to clomid.
So I'm 28 (29) tomorrow lol. AF started late lastnight so CD1 today and first pill will be popped tomorrow night. I am a bit concerned about side effects etc. but also clingin on to all hopes this works for me.
Good Luck all.

Issy42 · 17/01/2009 17:51

Hi, just though I'd let you know about this and this clomid thread. They're both quite small and very friendly ones.

pinkmook · 17/01/2009 18:46

I dont mind either wya...if anyone on here wants to migrate over to another thread...but equally I dont mind staying here...just let me know what you decide girls then I can pick up my cheesy poofs and grapefruit juice and move my ass or alternatively put my russell brand posters upin here

MamaMaiasaura · 17/01/2009 21:48

I dont mind staying here or migrating either Good to see others in the same boat.

It sucks the whole you have an older child attitude (or any other child) so therefore you dont deserve to get treatment. Also the whole you been trying for 5 years and it can sometime take a bit longer.. very patronising.

I was very lucky with my consultant with ds2 - she was a gem, even called us from home. We are hopefully having her again.

Pink Mook - ooo the 2ww (fingers crossed for you ) With ds2 me and dp did the business everyday regardless just in case lol. It kind of lost the sparkle but it worked.

If we are migrating let me know. IF not should we start a list? (ocd creeping in ) Dont want to step on any other toes so perfectly happy to totter over to another thread

Ocd really kicks in..

Well i'll do a list and then at least its done. lol

AlfieMax - CD1
PinkMook - CD? OV'd on 2WW
Awen CD??

OP posts:
pinkmook · 18/01/2009 10:23

oooo a list, Ive never been on a list! OK is this how is works?:

AlfieMax - CD1
PinkMook - CD18 (ov cd15) on 2WW 1st cycle on clomid (eek!)
Awen CD??

Alfiemax · 18/01/2009 13:26

Afternoon Ladies.

I'm ok staying here or moving. I find myself reading lots of threads anyway. I'm new to MN as I usually use another (unamed) forum site but the fertility treatment girls can be really clique (sp). And over the 2 1/2 yrs I used the general TTC forum, I didn't know anyone there as all ppl I had got to know got their BFP's. I have visited MN loads of times and it does seem alot more laid back and open.

Well it's lovely to meet you girls and I hope this is a lucky thread for us. I had to LOL at cheesy poofs as that's exactly what I'm munching on now. Feeling slighrtly sick at already eating 3/4 of the bag.

Tonight's the night for me. I really hope I dont suffer too badly with side effects. I know I'll end up 'side effect' spotting instead of symptom spotting now. The headaches is my main worry. Oh and OHSS. I've already had to have emergency surgery last year for a ruptured ovary.

You'll find that I talk alot and bore you to tears, but I do also listen and am good with advice if it's something I know something about.
I look forward to the journey ahead (with secret fear). XXXXX

Alfiemax · 18/01/2009 13:28

OMG Not a ruptured ovary at all. I meant to say ruptured cyst. Ooop's

pinkmook · 18/01/2009 13:38

awww alfiemax lets crack open a new bag of cheesy poofs together and hold hands through the journey !

I was really worried about side effects - in particular headaches as I get hormone related migraines/headaches. I did get a few headaches during the 5 days I took it but not actually as bad as usual! I was really worried as well, about being really moody as I have been known to be a bit psycho when pre menstrual! LOL. BUT, weirdly, I felt really well while I took them and was much less ratty than ususal! I usually get a bit of ovulation rage too but didnt get anything at all! Was actually really made up at how unhormonal I was.

You can bore me any time alfiemax I know what you mean about some message boards being a bit cliquey, its nice to be somewhere friendly Hope your first day on the big C goes well! Are you taking it at night? I found taking it about 6pm worked well for me x

Alfiemax · 18/01/2009 14:18

Hiya Pinkmook,

Yes I'm going to take it this evening, well I was wondering acrtually if it's best just before bed time or a bit earlier? I'm also a migraine sufferer and about 4-5 times a year I get them where I'm vomiting and bedridden. Not nice and I'm just hoping that the clomid wont give me this nagging headaches that can lead to one of my bad migraines iykwim. Moody?? PMSL I have been an absolute monster this week, started last Sunday and led to me being in floods of tears on Friday. I'm normally really calm around af time so when I do get PMT, I really do get it.

I think I'll have to just not speak to anyone if I feel a bit moody. I'm the sort to just acid tongue my way through the day before threats of killing people/myself etc etc. LOL

How are/do you go about EWCM?? I know that can 'dry' up when on C. I'm drinking gallons of green tea, as I have drunk it before and that really helps. I just wish I knew more about the hormonal side of things with regard to clomid, I'd like to know if it's actually making a difference to my body or not.

Alfiemax · 18/01/2009 14:26

BTW I hate these bloody doctors sometimes. It took me over 3 1/2 years to get a sodding blood test. Funny enough, not once did they say it's because I already have children, but because I had suffered depression back in 2001. I couldn't believe it. It took four attempts with different GP's before finally getting something done. Luckily the last one really listened and because of how I had been brushed off, he made sure he pre-reffered me to a consultant as he was leaving the practice before I would have had the test results back for the referal.

I know alot of it goes on postcode lottery and things, but I think with conception there should be a little more sympathy in most cases. Also they do not do semen analysis in this NHS area so we had to drive 60 miles to the nearest clinic which would accept an NHS patient. It's all worth it, but very very frustrating.

Has it took you long in the system??

pinkmook · 18/01/2009 15:43

Well, with regard to EWCM, I had never really had what imgaine to be "proper" EWCM, I would rather get 3 or 4 days of watery but yet still cloudy (boak) discharge blerch. BUT with clomid I have had 1 day of what looks the most like EWCM I personally have ever had, so thats good I guess. I have drank grapefruit juice for a most of my TTC cycles and continued doing this for this cycle (on clomid) I really need to drink more water I think.

We have been trying for 18months but we knew we had a male issue from the outset as DH has had a vasectomy reversed (its a long story, I never wnated him to have the vasectomy done, we nearly split up over it, then he gets it reversed and we find out its not so simple and there are loads of issues that surround reversals and they aren't really that effective) so I asked for a referral after 9 months and they ran all the tests on both of us, I appear to be oving (t least on the cycle they tested) and DH has a sperm analysis that shows low count, poor morhology and low motility ( the hat trick of crap sperm LOL!) and we have basically been told our only option is IVF so we are due to see a private consultant in 2 weeks time, but were given the clomid as a kind of " oh well try this while you are waiting, it might just superboost things"

but during all this I was variously told by my gP that Dh's sperm tests were "normal" when they were infact very far from it, that I could find out if I was pregnant with a regular HPT from the day of ovulation oh really you may want to check thatn out mr GP!! and several other ridiculous bits of crap that slowed down my seeking further treatment...GP's eh? Fantastic

I am 33 and DH is 35 so we really need to get on with it if IVF is our only option as I kn ow success rates are far lower after 35 and also I cant egg share after then. How about you?

Alfiemax · 18/01/2009 17:57

Well, I have had only the one blood test (CD21), I did ask if they should be doing the early cycle one, but apparently not. The cons said it showed ov but it may have been a lucky cycle? Haha! Not lucky enough then.

Have been with DH for 13+ yrs and we both manaed to fall pg easily before. Oh how I realise you should never take fertility for granted. Since having my last, my cycles have been messed up, well not as bad as some but never 28 days anymore and vary, the lowest cycle I had was 14 day and the maximum I can remeber is 26 days. They say that your ov days can change but never luteal phase. I know this is utter bull because mine varies almost every cycle.

I've tried vitamins, herbs etc. The usual stuff, EPO, Agnus Castus, B6, green tea, pre-seed, temping, 'not trying' and probably loads more but to no avail.

I bought some clomid online in 2007, but never plucked up the courage to take them just incase they were dodgy. I have been so desperate at times. There have also been times when having another baby is just not a good decision or time, but alas my maternal instinct just takes over everything.

I have been diagnosed then undiagnosed with endomatriosis, I've had quite a large cyst drained during a laparoscopy then the one that burst last year. I had 14 months of continous bleeding, they never figured out what that was, this was before I started TTC again. I had possibly a blighted ovum?? During a scan to find the cause of the bleeding they saw a sac, at the time she said early pg and to keep on testing, but after about a thoussand bfn' the realised the sac was empty, this is what made me want another baby. That was October 2003, and so out tiresome journey began.
jeez I can waffle. LOL.

Awen you'll have to fill us in on your story.

Pinkmook, I have heard of clomid for male fertility issue. I bet the IVF will cost a fortune. Have you looked into the egg share scheme? That looks like a very good idea for couples with male issue.

pinkmook · 18/01/2009 18:43

Wow you've been through the mill then. I dont think people realise the depths FTC take you to.

Yes I am going to egg share if they let me as it relly brings the cost down, however because of the shite sperm, we would also have to have ICSI which costs another £1000 so it will prob even out somewhat. Like I say, I need to get on with it as time isnt on my side - I guess thats one thing on your side though - you are under 30 so statistically better placed (not much comfort when nothing seems to work I know)

I had the blood tests on day 2/3 and then on day 21. Never heard of just doing the one. Have had some pretty wacky cycles since TTC, shortest was 23 days longest over 55! But that was first few months after stopping pill and everything seemed to go haywire for at least 6 months and (touchwood) seems to have calmed down a bit now with cycles between 29 and 31 days and luteal phase about 12 -14 days long (however rather worryingly I start spotting from around 4 days before full AF so am wondering how clomid will affect this as apparently it is a symptomn of something being not quite right in the first phase of the cycle - we will see I guess!

I too have tried doing it every other day (very hard when cycles go wacky!) temping, preseed, Proxeed (for men!), every vitamin going inc B6, grapefruit juice cough medicine, cutting out all caffeine and alcohol, going on holiday, relaxing "not trying", reiki, (embarrasingly) spells from a white witch , legs in the air, begging and pleading with god/the universe and santa claus!! And now, finally we are going for the full on IVF route - eeeek!

Awen as alfiemax says you must fill us in

xx

pinkmook · 18/01/2009 18:46

You are prob wondering why I took pill when DH had had vasectomy! sound stupid but I liked how it made everything very predictable and also had trouble with bad skin and it cleaared that up - strangely enough the bad skin cam back with avengance after stopping the pill but within 6 months had cleared up of its own accord! Hormones eh!

MensaReject · 18/01/2009 18:59

I'm on cd29 after taking Clomid 100mg days 2-6. I'm not sure how long my cycle lenght should be, they were very irregular before, does anyone know if Clomid is supposed to regulate things? I've got sore boobs, does anyone else get sore boobs towards the end of their Clomid cycle? I've had mine about a week. I've not had many symptoms, mainly the hot flushes which are awful. I'm going for day 3\21 day blood tests next cycle and also a dye test, not looking forward to that!

Alfiemax · 18/01/2009 21:24

Pinkmook the things we try eh! It's kind of amazing how our bodies can just go into auto-pilot and demand that we get pregnant, without no time for stoppping. I hope that makes sense.
I was on the pill before TTC'ing my 2, bankg on 28 day cycles, could time them to the hour. Always bled for the same amount of time, painless and hassle free. I suppose I was naive to think my body would continue this without contraceptive?
I have even been back on the pill (for 6 weeks) to try and regulate back but nope. Spotted all the way through and felt as rough as a bears arse too.

MensaReject - Don't know much about clomid as only just taking it but I have heard it regulates the cycle, lengthening the second half if it's too short etc. It gives you a massive boost of progesterone which is good. The doctor did tell me that it can cause sore boobies, also read that on t'internet. I suffer with this from ov-af so not expecting any surprises.
You'll have to let us know how you get on and how much different your cycle has been to usual.

Well ladies I took my first one about 30 mins ago, I physically shook while getting it out of the packet, wondering if I'm about to change my life? How daft lol.

It's been so nice to get things off my chest today, I've been so scared this last week or so, waiting for af knowing that I'm about to do something out of the norm. The thing is I'm scared for all sorts of reasons. Scared incase it doen't work, scared incase it does. Scared of the side effects, scared of quadruplets. You name I'm scared of it.
You can call the men in white coats now if you want lol.
X

Issy42 · 19/01/2009 00:15

Hi girls. Not going to join the thread because I'm not taking it anymore, but just thought I'd let you know that I took it for 3 months at the end of last year. The first time I was on holiday and terrified but no side effects at all. The second and third time mild headaches and only one hot flush on the second cycle. I took mine before bed as that's what my nurse advised. It does regulate your cycle a little but mine still varied. I can't remember the first cycle details (other than not very different to previous ones) but the second time I got scanned on day 9 and already had a follicles at 2.3, 1.7 and 1.6 (and smaller ones) so had IUI on day 11, the last time I didn't ov until day 15.

Understand you wanting to keep your own shiny, new thread. Was just letting you know about the others in case you wanted to ask experienced C takers any questions, so please feel free to pop in if you do have any. Oh and almost everyone who's popped in on one of them (can't remember which) has got a BFP almost straight after, so we seem to be a lucky charm .

Good luck - hope it works for you.

MamaMaiasaura · 19/01/2009 09:25

hi again. I am pretty crap at coming on everyday, but dp is out tonight and will come and fill you in.
Re the ewcm, i thought grapefruit juice helped.. did get it with ttc with ds2 but didnt really 'click' that was it. I did try the ov stick but ended up spending lots of stress and money and was told by consultant that they arent helpful. I will try and look up my old thread because i was given lots of advice then. ONly 3 more days till appt.

Alfiemax - poor you with ruptured cyst

OP posts:
pinkmook · 19/01/2009 17:58

oooh Issy42 - now I will have to pop onto both threads just because I am superstitious! But I bet I am the one to break the lucky charm

Hey Awen, goodluck with app. xx

Alfiemax · 19/01/2009 21:17

Hi Ladies,

Just a quick one as I'm off to bed. Didn't enjoy my first night with the C as I was awake most of the night thrashing about hot and headachey.

Have had a muzzy head all day and am absolutley knackered. hence going to bed at this ridiculous time lol. I'm not sure I'm doint the right thing here girls. I don't think my poor head can suffer too much pain :S

Night All XX

MamaMaiasaura · 19/01/2009 21:52

Thanks pink.

Alfie - poor you. It is worth it just horrid side effects. I managed to get on but my brain isnt in gear at all.

Hello mensreject

OP posts:
MensaReject · 20/01/2009 08:29

Day 31 now and no af although i feel a little crampy this morning. Boobs are alot less sore now too, but still have white snotty cm (tmi sorry!) I've not tested yet as i read Clomid could make your cycle longer and i've always been very irregular. Plus i'm too scared i'm going to wait until cd35 i think, i'd get a definate yes or no by then hopefully. I've been weeing more, but also drinking more so i think that symptom crosses itself out!

Alfiemax · 20/01/2009 20:04

Evening Ladies,

Awen - Good Luck with your appt. I hope it goes really well. How you feeling at the moment? Good I hope.

Pinkmook - Are you ok too? Hope so.

Mensareject - Hoping this is looking good for your BFP! How have you been feeling post climid?

Well, I had a better night lastnight. Slept more and haven't felt rough today, aside from a funny pain at the side of my head behind my ear? Weird! I'm hoping to have minimal side effects as I couldn't even handle going back on the pill when I tried that lol.

Hope to catch up with you all soon.
