Hi just wondered if people ttc on Clomid wanted to join this thread unless i have been stupid and missed one.

We are due to fertility clinic on 22nd and expect to go on clomid again.

We have 2 dc. Ds1 is nearly 9 and was concieved without fertility help. THis was a big surprise as have PCOS and was told would never conceive naturally.

Ds2 was conceived after 1 course of clomid 50mg. My day 21 test was awful and still no period after 45ish day. Was put on progesterone to induce bleed. Didnt happen as was pregnant.

Was also on metformin but not currently, waiting for all clear next week. I have dodgy lft generally on medication and also bfing.

Ds2 is 1 now and still breastfeeding. Hoping this will not hinder any treatment as really want to continue this too. I am now 33 so fertility decreasing too.

I dont have a cd currently as all up the shoot so waiting to see what happens really.

I am soo tempted to go and get OPK because I just want to know. I have no idea what size the follicles were (I should have asked) but she said that there were many and not one particluarly bigger one which she would hope to see and typical of PCO. I had some white and very very stretchy CM this evening but dont know if i am just wishing for symptoms of ov. How long before ov would you get the discharge and would that go along with the scan? Monday seems so far away and just feel like this isnt going to happen for us again and we've used up all of our luck.

Sorry so down, i am very lucky i know to already have my 2 lovely boys.

Clure - fab glad you are on the road now. on the wine consumption.. i cant drink wine now, i go bright red and hot.

Hey clure I think it depends on the person as to how long it takes you to come on, with the norethisterone(10 day course) I came on after about 4-5 days but think it can be as quick as 2 days which I am hoping is the case for the provera, how are you finding it? I have been fine on it last dose tomorrow. How was your race?

Hey Awen Hows your DS? Keeping my fingers crossed for you for tomorrows scan

mummycat We have friends from Poland who just moved back home, apparantly the chocolate is fab so make sure you get loads lol

paddington are you feeling better now yor finished your course of clomid?

Hello Katlokna, lisylou, amelied, sgibbo, islegrin, clairebear, brandybay and alfiemax hope you are all well.

Hi all

stac have taken the provera only for 2 days and feeling fine. Had a good race this morning and managed to finish in 2hours 15 knocking nearly 10 mins off my time last year. Legs feel like lead now though! Glad you are not having any reactions to the provera.

Awen CM sounds positive for ovulation? Do you know if you have ovulated or not or are you waiting to find out tomorrow? Its been a long time since I had CM have forgotten what it supposed to look like!

Hoping the rest of you ladies are feeling positive and enjoying the sunshine

paddington21 · 05/04/2009 17:18

Hi all am feeling bit down, bit grumpy last couple days. Had tea and donuts and that certainly made me feel better!
All done on clomid for this month was really rather painless considering last month just waiting to ovulate now...... why are we always waiting!!!

Awen sounds like ovulation to me too!

Hope everyone is well x x x

Hi All,

i am desperately seeking some advice on clomid.. my background: ttc for 1 yr and 4mths following missed m/c at 12 wks.. i have one ds who is two and a bit.. first two conceptions occured in

shm · 05/04/2009 19:57

Hi fifi

I can only tell you my experience of being prescribed clomid, and it's quite different from yours...

I am 39 and no kids. My period had stopped years ago due to elevated prolactin levels caused by taking fluoxetine. I started trying to get on clomid in about May 2008, at the same time my partner had his vasectomy reversed. I had to do some blood tests, which I suppose showed that I don't have any other issues besides the amenorrhea. After about five months of my rubbish GP faffing about, I got a referral to a fertility specialist at our local hospital. He said he thought I should use clomid, but first I had to go get my tubes inspected (I think this was what others here call 'lap and dye' - it's pretty uncomfortable). That showed that my plumbing was fine, and I finally got the Clomid prescription in December 2008. I got three months' supply. I was also given norithesterone to bring on a period, and then I took one clomid a day for days 2-6 of my cycle each month.

I had a blood test on day 21 of my first clomid cycle, and I assume it showed I ovulated (I got no feedback on it - my GP sucks). I did the same thing for the next two months (except no norithesterone because my period came on its own). I have just finished the supply of clomid, and was given another three months' worth by another doctor at my GP's office (not my own GP - I don't think this person really knew what he was doing, but he approved the prescription anyway).

Aside from the day 21 blood test, I've not been given any scans or other tests, nor have I seen or heard from the fertility specialist at the hospital. I'm still not pregnant, but I think I am ovulating; all my BFN's have to do with my partner's reduced fertility, I think.

We have never been urged to have IVF or ICSI by anyone (I think you are right about the private guy trying to sell you his expensive product).

I've found the whole thing very frustrating, as nobody is telling me anything, and I am having to make choices without understanding their ramifications or having enough knowledge. I don't trust any of the practitioners I've seen so far (the fertility specialist had no idea why my prolactin levels were so high - I had to bring in articles from medical journals showing the link between raised prolactin and fluoxetine myself, before he would believe me). From your post it seems you are experiencing the same confusion and frustration.

Good luck. Try to find an adviser you can TRUST. Mumsnet people have been my best source of information, so stay on here and read other threads. And again, good luck.

-Stephanie

paddington21 · 05/04/2009 20:24

Hi fifi am so sorry you have had such a rough ride of it! My clomid story well the logistics are pretty standard.
I have pcos, the only boxes I tick are the amenorrhea and cysts on the ovaries. I think you need to go back to GP and demand ask to be referred to a fertility clinic, I am hoping you have one so then I assume you can bypass the waiting lists various? A waiting list to wait to get clomid - that just sounds awful! If not maybe go to another private place- check them out for reviews and what on the internet and mumsnet and ask for clomid may cost you a bit but im hopeful not as much as several grand!

Agree with shm find someone you trust and stay on here i have learnt so much and they are lovely women here, expecially this thread!

paddington21 · 05/04/2009 20:33

I also have a 3 questions which i forgot to post... evening primrose oil- your views and or experiences ladies can we on clomid even take it?
also grapefruit juice could someone remind haha probably again when i should drink this and does it matter if its the fresh 'not from concentrate' also pink or yellow. Sorry I know, silly questions but google is not answering me!

any tips for leading up to ovulation? minus trying not to stress about moving! I'm thinking lots of lavender baths might help?

Hope all are well

baby dust to all!

stac14 · 05/04/2009 20:37

Hey fifi
Sounds like you have had a rotten ride of late. I have been ttc since april last year when I stopped the pill I never took a period, this was unusual as I had been regular as clockwork since I was 11. The doc started taking bloods and refered me for an internal scan, like paddington I only have no periods and some cysts on my ovaries, I am alos overweight and struggle to lose it. After diagnosis was confirmed my gp prescribed a course of clomid and arranged for me to see a consultant at the hospital who increased my clomid to 100mg and has ordered bloods to be done CD 21, 28 and 35 unfortunately I haven't ovulated yet on the clomid and have to take provera to induce af and the consultant wont increase the clomid any higher because it can have an adverse effect on people with pcos. Demand better care from your GP and defo get refered to a clinic. xxx

stac14 · 05/04/2009 20:48

Hi paddington
I found an article on then net regarding grapefruit juice, evening primrose oil and CM hope it helps www.laboroflove.com/articles/grapefruit-juice-and-cervical-mucus/
Also taking robitussin cough mixture for chesty coughs from boots can also help make the CM more sperm friendly. Dosage 1500-3000mg a day...you can buy them in different size capsules-poundland sell them 500mg which means you take 6 a day-but it would be easier to take 2 capsules each meal time but depending where you get them from you can buy them in 1000mg+1500mg capsules from boots. Its VERY important that you buy the red bottle as its the only one that will do the job right, its the only one ive found with 100% Guaiphenesin...ive copied the link from Boots as everyone has a boots store!!! AND the bonus is...at the moment they have 20% off...so get ya butts down there and stock up, you will prob need 2-3 bottles per cycle
You follow the recommended dose on the bottle...you can take it for a week before ovulation, until the day of ovulation and then stop!!

Hope this info helps xxxx

Clure · 05/04/2009 21:15

Hi fifi and shm you both sound totally frustrated. The whole process of infertility or reduced fertility as it should be more correctly referred to is in itself a rollercoaster ride. We're all with you on that one! Fifi you sound in a similar situation as I'm waiting to start clomid but have not been offered any kind of monitoring, scans or even blood tests. I do think it very much depends on your nhs authority or fertility clinics. I also think it's advisable to let GP know what courses of action you want out of it all and make some firm demands (but not in a shouty way!) Also shocked to hear that you are on a waiting list for clomid?!!

Hopefully some of the lovely ladies on this thread who are exceptionally knowledgeable can advise you both. (Attila where are you?) Lots of luck xx

Clure · 06/04/2009 08:52

Hi all

Has anyone who takes provera had night sweats (and days sweats!) as a side effect from it? I do have hot flushes but last couple of days have been worse.

stac14 · 06/04/2009 13:08

Hi clure
Yeah I get flushes with provera, felt roasting all day yesterday feel cooler today though so maybe they pass as your body gets used to it. xxx

Clure · 06/04/2009 13:32

stac its really unpleasant isn't it? I actually am breaking out in sweat (sorry!) my face is covered in beads of it! yikes

sgibbo · 06/04/2009 13:37

Hey Stac14 How are things with you?

Brandybaby What's been happening with you?

fifi, shm welcome to the thread,

fifi i've had done all three options after TTC for nearly 4yrs and am currently on the third. My advice would be to start on the clomid and see what happens you can take clomid upto 6 months in a row. I wouldn't call it a waste of time taking clomid for me it's more of a helping hand, you may just need help ovulating? A friend of mine has pcos and was given clomid and she got BFP on 2nd cycle

sgibbo agree with you in your comments to fifi. I think clomid is usually a good port of call.

sgibbo · 06/04/2009 13:46

Clure congrats on the run at the weekend, I don't know how you do it!

how are you finding the provera?

stac14 · 06/04/2009 13:57

Hi sgibbo I'm good thanks how are you?
I also agree with your advice for fifi. Definately don't think she should go for the option of buying clomid online and doing it unmonitored, as Atilla told us before it has to be closely monitored

Hi clure are you feeling ok other than the flushes? This is the first time I haven't felt like I had really bad PMT so think the provera is better than norethisterone, maybe as you dont take it for so long

Hope29 · 06/04/2009 14:09

Hi Im new to these forums but Im certainly not new to clomid... I am now on my 8th cycle of 150mgs and I totally feel ur pain MensaReject because the waiting is the worst! My last cycle arrived bang on day 35 (which is my usual cycle lenght)but of course I was gutted because I had all the symptoms and was convinced I was pregnant. Im only on CD 4 now so fingers crossed this month is our month... just found out my 2 best friends are pregnant!! Its all very hard but hopefully we'll get what we want in the end!!

sgibbo · 06/04/2009 14:52

Hi Hope29 my FC mentioned that some of the side effects of clomid are pg symptoms, which i think is the worst part. How long have you been TTC? Three of my best friends have recently had babies and know how difficult it is to be happy for them, you have to keep thinking positive it will happen soon!

sgibbo · 06/04/2009 14:54

stac14 if i'm honest i'm fed up of waiting for this weekend to be able to test! but apart from that loving the sunshine! We do you expect to be able to start trying again? How long do you have to take provera?

Clure · 06/04/2009 17:38

stac I have a bit of a headache today but not sure if its provera or dehydration after the long run yesterday.

sgibbo think provera ok apart from horrendous hot sweats but again I had those before provera but perhaps not as intense. Keep on hanging in there!

Welcome to the thread hope29 wow 8 cycles, thats a lot of tough waiting around.

paddington21 · 06/04/2009 18:22

Hi all!
Stac you star for finding that link and all your helpful info I havent tried the cough medicine yet... do you use it and has it worked? has anyone found it to be any good? i'm just hoping i do enough this month feel terrible though it was my darling brother's birthday and i have drunk for the first time in months 4 drinks im hoping it wont hinder any chances too much- its so easy to obsess and blame yourself even though deep down im much more relaxed this time.

How is everyone else?
sgibbo how dreadful is that wait i nearly went mad last month- all the best of luck.
welcome hope these ladies are such great support and a wealth of info.

I found i had/have hot flushes on clomid rather than provera... hmm

baby dust and hope to all

Hi Hope Welcome to the thread, I know how you feel me and DP have been ttc for a year and my cousin who tried for about 2 months fell right away so hard

Sgibbo I have taken my last dose today so hoping I have af by friday then will be back on clomd by Saturday

paddington dont down yourself for having a drink, think everything is ok in moderation, in fact another girl who was on here before said her consultant suggested a few was good for relaxation. I haven't tried the cough syrup yet but have heard and read good things so may try it this month
