TTC - Clomid Thread

MamaMaiasaura · 16/01/2009 23:09

Hi just wondered if people ttc on Clomid wanted to join this thread unless i have been stupid and missed one.

We are due to fertility clinic on 22nd and expect to go on clomid again.

We have 2 dc. Ds1 is nearly 9 and was concieved without fertility help. THis was a big surprise as have PCOS and was told would never conceive naturally.

Ds2 was conceived after 1 course of clomid 50mg. My day 21 test was awful and still no period after 45ish day. Was put on progesterone to induce bleed. Didnt happen as was pregnant.

Was also on metformin but not currently, waiting for all clear next week. I have dodgy lft generally on medication and also bfing.

Ds2 is 1 now and still breastfeeding. Hoping this will not hinder any treatment as really want to continue this too. I am now 33 so fertility decreasing too.

I dont have a cd currently as all up the shoot so waiting to see what happens really.

Hi all,

just checking in. not a lot to report with me, still waiting for AF, busy few days here so haven't really had opportunity to think too much about things.

Babydust to you all xxxx

sissy0928 · 13/03/2009 15:13

Cheeky, best of luck to you! I'm awaiting Next week and praying for no cramps!

Baby Dust to everyone, love, love love!

mummycat1 · 13/03/2009 16:49

Awen I second that sentiment - it must be our turns soon!

Clure Have you got Provera yet?

Cheeky and Sissy stay strong for one more week! Massage sounds lovely cheeky.

Well I went to FC this am for scan. 2 follicles this time. One on each side. One is 2.3cm and one was 2.4 so definitely ready to go. Had Ovitrelle shot and it's a bit sore where they did it - not had that before.

Had a bit of a chat. This is my 4th month and I can only have 6 on Clomid. So June will be my last try on Clomid as I am off on holiday in April and taking a month off. I asked about options after that. She said I could have IUI for £700, but she thought that it is not worth it as it is costly and has a low success rate. She said that I should go straight for IVF which costs £2500 - £3000. Tried not to look shocked or worried at this news. She then said that if I egg share that this will take the cost down to £700. So we have a lot to think about and need to start saving.

She also said that it helps to imagine TTC is like an obstacle course and that if there were 10 obstacles to get over then Clomid only gets you over one and then the injection I have gets you over another one, but the rest is pretty much up to chance. She said that IVF gets you over about 9 hurdles but it only has a 50% success rate.

I cannot go to the spa as we planned on Sat as they don't advise that you swim or have a bath when ov-ing as it dries up CM. Showers are fine though.

Hope that this info is helpful to you ladies too.

I feel much better about things after chatting to the nurse and I do not expect to get pregnant on Clomid this time, which I'm feeling is easier than praying that it has worked and being heavily disappointed when AF comes. That doesn't mean we won't spend the weekend trying though!

Well, no DD tomorrow afternoon and so maybe we will go to the pictures instead of the spa? Not sure yet.

Have you all had a good red nose day?

Weekend plans everyone?

xxx

MUMMY - Now I'm worried, IUI isn't as successful as IVF but that's what my FS is having us do for now, hope it's not for nothing...here in the states IVF is probably around $8500 which I have no way of handling...IUI is $412 each try as it is...my insurance covers the Chlomid, just a $7 copay...

And 3 women have announced they are pg this week, Sat my hairdresses, Wednesday a co-worker who had AF in Dec but is 5 1/2 months already and had LOADS of stress (like death in her family & such). And yesterday another co-worker is 4 1/2 months, very young and it was an accident, and she isn't excited about it, which makes me cringe!! There are now 6 women in this office PG - I'm going to drink their water and touch all of them daily on the hand and hope it rubs off, haha!

Lisylou1980 · 13/03/2009 20:52

Thats always the way sissy i walk round town and all i see is preg ppl and some are little girls then you hear all this on the news with child abuse really pees me off when thats all i want and i could give a good home to a child and thats all i want x

sissy0928 · 13/03/2009 22:07

((Hugs to you Lisylou))!! Thank you!

Clure · 14/03/2009 09:52

Hello, I'm bit sad at the moment as my family have just gone back home from few days visit, they live over 200miles away. Anyway will try to get on with the rest of the day!

mummycat no I haven't got provera, am planning to make appointment with GP next week if AF doesn't put in an appearance. I hadn't realised IVF was so expensive and has a 50% success rate. Still at least that seems like a better option than IUI in terms of success. When you say egg share does that mean you are not able to use your own eggs? Its so tough isn't it? All these decisions to be made, hope you manage to relax for the rest of weekend

Cheeky and sissy you both must be feeling excited and scared for next week. Have to agree that it often seems unfair that people who cannot look after their children seem to be blessed in the able to conceive without problems department. Faced a situation this week through work which made me feel like screaming where I thought some people DO NOT deserve to have such precious things as children

Hoping the rest of you are enjoying weekend xxx

mummycat1 · 14/03/2009 13:43

Clure Egg sharing means that I will use my own eggs and donate some to another couple who cannot produce their own. Not sure how I feel about that yet. I am going to ring FC on Mon and ask if there is a waiting list for IVF and if I can go on it now.

Sissy don't panic. IUI does work for some people otherwise they wouldn't do it would they? I think that IUI puts a strain on the National Health Service in Britain as I am subsidised by them. If I went private then costs would absolutely sore.

Chin up everybody

Clure · 14/03/2009 15:01

mummycat yes thats a tough decision. i suppose the positive thing about it is that you would be helping out somebody who is possibly in a worse situation than yourself. When i was trying to conceive DD consultants weren't sure initially about my egg supply or quality as I'd had chemotherapy as a child and it was suggested I may have to have egg donor, they asked whether I had any sisters. It didn't actually come to that in the end as eggs were ok and the clomid worked. Anyway good that you can discuss this with clinic, sounds like you have a sound support network there. lots of luck to you

Just been for another huge run and legs are well and truly aching!

cheekymonkeywanted · 14/03/2009 15:07

hi all ,

well i have just completed a 9 miles charity walk, my legs have had it, but at least it has been a lovely morning with the sun shining.

well im now thinking it hasnt worked this month although i have some signs my nipples have now gone darker too) im getting spots, i only ever really get spots a few days before my period so im thinking i will come on in a few days...only time will tell.

clure how you feeling, do your family know what you are going through re: trying to concieve? hugs to you.

mummycat does that mean you could have twins if you have two folicles ready to go, that would be great!

ray81 · 14/03/2009 16:45

Hi guys i am back.

Cheekymonkeywanted - the thing you said about no baths etc realy makes sense i stop having baths when i Ov and just take showers, hoever when i had IUI i was never told not to have baths. Probably why it failed.
Well i Ov on weds temp shot up on thurs and has now dropped again i am alittle concerned as is my fiorst month of temping but the fact it has dropped could indicate a progestrone problem. Typical it will be a wasted month on clomid if i do have a progestrone problem.

We bded like mad this month so i am hoping that one made it - please let one have mad it.

Baby dust to everyone.

OP posts:
cheekymonkeywanted · 14/03/2009 22:04

hi awen, thats good that you have provera now, at least you can move forward.

I was told that they only give out 6 months of clomid at a time because it has an increased risk of causing cancer if taken for longer in one go. i think they like you to take a 3-6 months break after 6 months on clomid before starting again.

ray that wasnt me who said that about baths but its good to know. hope your well.

paddington21 · 14/03/2009 22:19

hello. im very new so im really sorry if i have posted on the wrong thread. am on 1st month of clomid 50mg on day 18. have my day 21 bloods soon have not been offered any scans or anything. had terrible side effects- nausea and just feeling dodgy. Am really hoping this works! have poly cystic ovaries well i tick 2 of the 3 boxes apparently- no periods a handful in my lifetime... well natural ones and i dont ovulate. apparently my something and something levels are normal- i dont really know but if its normal- meh! i hate home ovulation and pregnancy tests due to well the obvious i guess. i read a thread just before posting this about what people on mumsnet have learnt and a few were about bitchyness and mean posts so am tad scared of posting.

hope to all

any support or words of wisdom would be great have felt totally alone on this one!

millymolly83 · 14/03/2009 23:25

hi girls how are u all doing. the hos told me to phone my gp in two weeks they should have the letter by then am going to try this week to see if they have it. so can any one tell me how provera and clomid work together. because when i had clomid before thats all i had to take first time and i fell preg with my twins. but this time i need provers and clomid and i wondered if provera stops the clomid working as well

AttilaTheMeerkat · 15/03/2009 08:03

paddington

Would like to say welcome.

Would like to ask who prescribed clomid originally and are you under the care of a subfertility unit at hospital?. Its very poor that you haven't been offered any scans, this should be done. There's no way of knowing whether its working or not otherwise!. Although clomid is often used as a first line of treatment for PCO its certainly not suitable for all PCO patients either hence the monitoring.

Would not think that your LH and FSH levels are normal at all; they may look "okay" of looked at separately however, with PCO, these do need to be compared.

Another website you may find useful is www.verity-pcos.org.uk.

mummycat1 · 15/03/2009 11:02

Welcome paddington this is a really lovely friendly thread with loads of tips, ideas and advice. I agree with Attila about the scans. Can you ring the FC and ask about this? My FC give out OPKs on your first round of Clomid to monitor ov too and I have my bloods done on CD21 every month to check if I ov so ask about these things. Write down everything you want to know. Have added you to our list below.

Awen hope AF comes soon - am I right in thinking that you will get a scan this time on Clomid?

Ray it was me who said about the baths!

I am getting fed up of dieting. I am a real foodie and a passionate cook so am straining at the leash after 3 weeks of detox.

Well I dug the garden yesterday and planted loads of spuds instead of going to the spa! lol - well I felt relaxed afterwards and knackered actually! We then watched "Three Colours Blue" on DVD - we rarely get to see films anymore and used to love watching them so this was a nice treat whilst DD was away.

DS1 is 14 on Tuesday! so I'll be baking a lovely big cake! I'd better go for a few more runs I think!

My AF consolation dress arrived from Boden on Fri and I love it - what shall I buy in a fortnight?

We have BDed on Thurs and twice yesterday - we were actually feeling really randy and it didn't feel forced. Will do it again on Mon just to be sure we have given it the best shot that we can.

Very long message I know - but I am pretty talkative in RL too

Clure are you feeling stressed? Is that why you are running so much? What you said about donating eggs was helpful so thanks

Where have Dawni and TishB gone?

Clure · 15/03/2009 11:31

Hi all
mummycat not really feeling stressed so much as knackered at the moment, had busy few days and DD is not 100% and waking horrendously early so bit sleep deprived! Managed a bit of extra sleep this morning so feeling a bit better - also a gorgeous day
I'm running a lot at the moment in training for a half marathon in 3 weeks, all those endorphins are a bonus

cheekymonkey hi and thanks, yes my family do know that we are ttc and are there for me

Awen good you on provera. I too was only given 6 months of clomid till next appointment but NO screening

welcome paddington you'll get support and advice here. All are very friendly. Is your PCOS recently diagnosed? Consultant had ruled that out for me as both my FSH and LH levels were high (I think thats right!)

Have been reading about provera, does anyone know if depa provera is a different thing?

Lisylou1980 · 15/03/2009 11:55

Hey all
Welcome paddington, i joined this thread a few weeks ago and i have felt really welcome and they have all given me so much good advice.
Well 21 day bloods on tues so we will see what happens, not in as much pain the last couple of days so might have been ovulation pain if there is such a thing, i have never known when i have been ovulating before so very strange to get pain this time ho hum we will wait and see.
xx

stevie1402 · 15/03/2009 12:14

Hello

i am new to this site started clomid last month on my second course, have had no side effects at all i dont think so wondering if it is working, have been trying for over 6 years but trying to keep posative, my sister told about this site and how she met some lovely people on here, she finely had a little girl after 5 years trying, been told she will not have 2nd one

paddington21 · 15/03/2009 13:27

Hello all! Thank you for such a lovely, lovely welcome!

AttilaTheMeerkat Fertility Consultant prescribed it 6 months worth. Had provera first. The consultant the levels in the brain and something else looked normal. She will phone my 21 bloods result I will ask her then to double check everything and ask about being monitored. Thank you for good website.

mummycat1 will ask about the sticks although I never get a postive as not ovulating obviously. Not sure I have this month but been getting bad pains on my left lower side... is this a sign? Anyone else get that? Am def going to ask about scans. My consultant is lovely but seemed quite relxed as if clomid will make me pregnant... hmm!
On a happier note thank goodness for johnie boden!!
clure Was diagnosed last August as came off pill and nothing happened after 7 months. Had scan have cysts and no periods thus no ovulating so they came to the conclusion i have poly cystic ovaries.
Have provera a few times now it gave me nice easy periods. depo vera i thoguht was somekind of contraceptive???

Lisylou1980 hey! thank you for your message glad im not the only newbie!

So how it is all going girls? its a gorgeous day for bedding! bedded last night just in case the left side pains are a sign!

Luck to all

Clure · 15/03/2009 13:50

Hi and welcome stevie I took clomid 4 years ago and conceived DD first time, I didn't really have any side effects either

paddington you sound really positive. I am hoping to get provera from GP as i initially turned it down from consultant (why did I do that??!) I have few periods, this has really only been in the last 18 months. My last period was beginning of January and I thought I might have had another but no such luck that's why I will request provera from GP

Off out now to enjoy sunshine
