MamaMaiasaura · 16/01/2009 23:09

Hi just wondered if people ttc on Clomid wanted to join this thread unless i have been stupid and missed one.

We are due to fertility clinic on 22nd and expect to go on clomid again.

We have 2 dc. Ds1 is nearly 9 and was concieved without fertility help. THis was a big surprise as have PCOS and was told would never conceive naturally.

Ds2 was conceived after 1 course of clomid 50mg. My day 21 test was awful and still no period after 45ish day. Was put on progesterone to induce bleed. Didnt happen as was pregnant.

Was also on metformin but not currently, waiting for all clear next week. I have dodgy lft generally on medication and also bfing.

Ds2 is 1 now and still breastfeeding. Hoping this will not hinder any treatment as really want to continue this too. I am now 33 so fertility decreasing too.

I dont have a cd currently as all up the shoot so waiting to see what happens really.

stac thanks for the clomid ov website, it looks really useful

Had a nice weekend, boo hoo its back to school tomorrow after a restful half term!

cheekymonkeywanted · 22/02/2009 20:49

hi all, im on nhs aswell (oxford,JR), i feel they have been fantastic with me...first round of clomid last year i had a scan on d10 and then again d21, after they had seen i had ovulated they then just left me to it. The same this time round, although my scan is now on d12, they said they now scan d12 not d10 anymore, and ovulate around day 16/17 (when i did concieve?)

mummycat if you dont mind me asking but did you carry on trying to concieve straight away or wait a while. Im only 24 and its hit me harder than i expected, but on the other hand i so desperatly want a child and feel that i have to get on with the clomid again.

i have people saying your only 24 whats the rush, but we have been married 5 years (trying for the last 2) and would love to have a large family (ideally 5/6) if i could see your faces now!!! lol! going to take a while if we cant even make one...always said i would adopt though?

clure im taking clomid d2-6, and they told us every other day from d12 to d21 (they told me i ovulate around day 17.

There have been some mixed information on using ovulation predictor kits (OPKs), when you are taking clomid. You can in fact use OPKs. I have found information that have stated this, also with my doctors reassurance. So ladies... It is about the right time when using them! Good luck & lots of baby dust!!!!!

Q: Does Clomid cause problems with OPKs?
A: Clomid (Serophene/clomiphene citrate) can cause a false positive in OPKs if taken too soon after finishing the prescription. According to most of the manufacturers you should wait at least 3 days before using an OPK. If you take Clomid days 3-7 you can begin testing on day 10. If you take it 5-9, you should wait until day 12.

MamaMaiasaura · 22/02/2009 21:26

good weekend here too, but have horrid cold now.

Brandy - thanks for info think they are less helpful for me as have pcos and also breastfeeding (like to be complicated )

Stac - thanks for link said

If you take Clomid for 5 days from 2/8/2009 to 2/12/2009,
you would expect to ovulate between 2/17/2009 and 2/22/2009.

You can start LH testing for ovulation on 2/15/2009.

Optimally you would start making love every 1-2 days starting on 2/15/2009. Have managed daily here but dp away from tuesday lunchtime till thursday evening.

hey awen
did those days coincide with when you think you ov'd? I know what you mean about the opk I have been told it is useless for me to use them because of pcos so when I found that calculator I thought that would be an easier way to try and keep track.
tish any sign of af? or have you tested?

Awen

I will find out if OPKs work if your breastfeeding... And ill get back to you! At least you are blessed and that you are a mother... I just hope one day I will be able to said I?m breast feeding. OMG... I?m so emotional! I know it seems ridiculous, but I sometimes think that I will ever become a mother... And then other times I think that I will get pregnant with quads! One extreme to another- I know! I got a positive OPKs on day 13 at 4:00pm. Another positive on day 14 at 11:30am. Ovary pains at 2pm. Then I got a negative OPKs at 8:00pm. I?ve been taking robitussin (100mg) and mucus x (400mg) both on days 7-17 ( I forgot to take both on day 15 & 16 opps!). On day 5 & 6 this month I experienced ovary pains. This was my first month that I have had ovary pains during my ovulation! The OPKs was negative at 8:00pm... So my last positive one was at 11:30pm. And if I figure 12-48 hours after my last test... That means from 11:30pm on Friday to Sunday at 11:30am ovulation occurred. They say a woman?s egg on average will last from 12-24 hours after it leaves the ovary. What days do you think you ovulated this month? I thought because you and I are on the same cycles days... That we would be going through ovulation during the same time, let me know! Oh, by the way... I have read that if a woman is breastfeeding while ttc... She is 20% more likely to conceive twins!

BrandyBaby · 23/02/2009 08:26

I wanted to share with you ladies
If you already know this, sorry to repeat it! I just thought that some of this information was useful.

What Happens During the Menstrual Cycle?
So, what is actually happening inside your body each month? It?s all about hormones. The changes associated with the menstrual cycle are brought on by fluctuations in hormones at different times of the month. Most cycles are 29 days long - a variation of a few days more or less can be quite normal and small variations from cycle to cycle is also normal. Day 1 of bleeding is referred to as Day 1 of the menstrual cycle. The length of the cycle is measured from Day 1 of one cycle (bleed) to Day 1 of the next cycle (bleed)
Ovulation occurs on approximately day 14 of a woman?s cycle and is when a mature egg is released from the ovary, pushed down the fallopian tube and is available to be fertilized. The lining of the uterus has thickened to prepare for a fertilized egg. If no conception occurs, the uterine lining as well as blood will be shed. The shedding of an unfertilized egg and the uterine wall is the time of menstruation. The menstrual cycle can be divided into the following parts: the ovarian cycle and the uterine cycle.
Ovarian Cycle
The ovarian cycle involves changes in the ovaries, and can be further divided into two phases:
Phase 1
The follicular phase (days 1 through 13) is the time from the first day of menstruation until ovulation, when a mature egg is released from the ovary. It's called the follicular phase because growth or maturation of the egg is taking place inside the follicle, a small sac where the egg matures. Ovulation occurs around day 14 of the cycle, in response to a surge of luteinizing hormone (LH) when the egg is released from the ovary. This first half of the cycle can differ greatly for each woman lasting anywhere from 7 days until 40 days.
Phase 2
The luteal phase (days 14 through 28) is the time from when the egg is released (ovulation) until the first day of menstruation, when you get your period. It is a structure that grows in the ovary where a mature egg was released at ovulation. The luteal phase has a more precise timeline and usually is only 12-16 days from the day of ovulation. This ultimately means that the day of ovulation will determine how long your cycle is.
Stress and Your Period
The old thought that stress can affect your period is only partly true. Stress can affect your ovulation which ultimately determines when your period will come, but stress around the time of an expected period will not make it late?it was already determined when it would come 12-16 days earlier!
Important Facts to Know About Ovulation:
An egg (ovum) lives 12-24 hours after leaving the ovary
Normally only one egg is released each time of ovulation
Ovulation can be affected by stress, illness or disruption of normal routines
Some women may experience some light blood spotting during ovulation
Implantation of a fertilized egg normally takes place 6-12 days after ovulation
Each women is born with millions of immature eggs that are awaiting ovulation to begin
A menstrual period can occur even if ovulation has not occurred
Ovulation can occur even if a menstrual period has not occurred
Some women can feel a bit of pain or aching, near the ovaries during ovulation. This is called "mittleschmerz"
If an egg is not fertilized, it disintegrates and is absorbed into the uterine lining
Sperm can live in a woman's body up to 5 days after intercourse, though more often 2 days.
Pregnancy is most likely if intercourse occurs anywhere from 3 days before ovulation until 2-3 days after ovulation.
Uterine Cycle
The uterine cycle involves changes in the uterus. It occurs in tandem with the ovarian cycle, and is divided into two phases:
The proliferative phase (days 5 through 14) is the time after menstruation and before the next ovulation, when the lining of the uterus increases rapidly in thickness and the uterine glands multiply and grow.
The secretory phase (days 14 through 28) is the time after ovulation. When an egg is not fertilized, the corpus luteum gradually disappears, estrogen and progesterone (hormone) levels drop, and the thickened uterine lining is shed. This is your menses (your period).
When are you the most fertile?
A woman's monthly cycle is measured from the first day of her menstrual period until the first day of her next period. On average, a woman's cycle normally is between 28-32 days, but some women may have much shorter cycles or much longer ones. Ovulation can be calculated by starting with the day the last menstrual period (LMP) starts or by calculating 12-16 days from the next expected period. Most women ovulate anywhere between Day 11 - Day 21 of their cycle, counting from the first day of the LMP. This is what many refer to as the "fertile time" of a woman's cycle, because sexual intercourse during this time increases the chance of pregnancy. Ovulation can occur at various times during a cycle, and may occur on a different day each month.
How can tracking your ovulation be useful?
Tracking ovulation can help a woman get a better idea of when pregnancy can and can not occur during her monthly cycle Fertility Awareness is one way to track when ovulation occurs and it includes studying the changes in cervical mucus and using a basal thermometer. Cervical fluid will change to a wet, slippery substance that resembles "egg whites" just before ovulation occurs and until ovulation is over. A thermometer helps track a body temperature rise, which signals that ovulation has just occurred. Another way to track ovulation is through ovulation kits and fertility monitors.. Once ovulation has occurred, there is nothing you can do to increase your chances of pregnancy. Your next step is to begin watching for early pregnancy symptoms.

stac14 · 23/02/2009 09:19

Thanks for the infor brandy.

Still no af but have been cramping since last night, so it must be on its way.

How are you all today? xx

AttilaTheMeerkat · 23/02/2009 10:20

"Ovulation occurs on approximately day 14 of a woman?s cycle and is when a mature egg is released from the ovary, pushed down the fallopian tube and is available to be fertilized".

NO, NO AND NO AGAIN!!.

Am sorry to shout honestly but this assertion keeps being banded about and is totally incorrect. Only 12% of all women have a 28 day cycle and ovulation certainly does not always occur on day 14. Ovulation is not an exact science and it can occur earlier, later or not at all in any given cycle.

mummycat1 · 23/02/2009 17:01

Yes Attila that's true and it is confusing when scientists/doctors (presumably male and so obviously clueless) tell us that we are supposed to have a nice neat little 28 day cycle every month! How to make a woman feel like she's not normal!

Cheekymonkey yes we did try again as soon as we could - seemed the only way to carry on - it has been 15 months now and no luck. It is good that you are starting young - hope you get that large family one day (((hugs)))

Hope AF comes soon for you Stac

Brandy be as emotional as you like - but go easy on yourself (((hugs)))

stac14 · 23/02/2009 17:21

Hey tish
Take me in your suitcase lol This will be my first af since I took clomid last month last time it took 5 days after the norethisterone so hoping it doesn't take as long this time. Soz your af came chick {{hugs}} Have you heard anything from the consultant? Sometimes they are quicker than the waiting lists, they are also meant to send an acknowledgement.

Hi mummycat I hope it comes soon too lol.

My cycle is nowhere near 29 days, I have to wait to take norethisterone so my cycles are more like 6 weeks, technically my af should have been here 11/02 but as you know I'm having to bring it on with meds, so frustrating.

Hey awen, alfiemax, atilla, Brandybaby, dawni, clure, loulabell and millymolly* how are you?

Alfiemax · 23/02/2009 18:34

Evening Ladies,

Sorry I haven't been on. I have been struggling to get on MN for some reason, plus my PC was bust for 2 das GRRR!

Feel like I have missed sooo much on here. Hope everyone is ok though

TishB Sorry af got you ((HUGS)). Although it does sound strange having spotting for so many days. I hate that, I'd rather it just got on with it and stop meesing about.

I'm off to the docs tomorrow as I think i have a bacterial infection in my wotsit . Worried though as I had an allergic reaction to the last lot of anti-biotics I had and had to be taken to hospital.

CD14 and I sort of think I am/have ov'd. This is really confusing me as normally it's obvious but as with the clomid last cycle, I didn't really know until suddenly I had unbearable pain. I normally ov early so to get to CD14 and still not know is new for me.

I am def going to try and get on here more and I really want to start preparing for next cycle. Main priority at the mo is to get this infection sorted. What a pain in the arse.

Hope you are all ok and we can get lots of BFP's very soon.

Can any of you ladies help me add to a list of things to keep you occupied when 2WW gets tough? My list so far...

  1. Have lunch with good friend
  2. Read good books
  3. Chocolate
  4. Buy good magazine to flick through
  5. Work extra hard
  6. Browse catologues and choose new outfit for "oh no I got my AF cheer you up treat"
  7. More chocolate!
Alfiemax · 23/02/2009 20:46

Hi Mummycat1

This is probably going to sound sad but I have found a great way of de-stressing, blanking my mind, peacful times, relaxing, or just anything where you want some quiete time is knitting. I took this up a few months ago when I was having a few problems with stress and it's brilliant. if you go to Wilkinsons they do some lovely wool for 99p and last time it was buy one get one free and the needles cost a couple of quid. I can only knit scarves but they are lovely and a nice homemade gift for a female relative or friend. it's def worth a go.
Hope that helps XX

Clure · 23/02/2009 21:33

Evening!
Busy postings today. Still no sign of af and I think I now CD50

stac hoping your af comes soon so you can get on with the clomid

mummycat Because I'm bonkers running long distances with lots of heavy rock tunes on my ipod is my therapy. Hoping you find good ways to keep you going. Agree reading a really good book helps as does shopping!

Alfie hope your wotsit gets better soon!! That you are able to get back on track

How are you awen, Attila, Dawni, milly, cheekymonkey and anyone else I missed?

Had a bit of a pants day at work and stuff nicked off out doorstep and my DD came home from nursery with nits

BrandyBaby · 24/02/2009 03:56

Attila

That information is from a website that I have found very useful. Of course not all women have a 28 day cycle. It is general information that can be used. Obviously the days vary depending on one?s cycle.

Clure

Did you take a pregnancy test yet?

LOTS OF BABY DUST TO ALL !

AttilaTheMeerkat · 24/02/2009 07:58

There are unfortunately some fertility information websites that do put forward misleading information as fact.

At least you realise that not every woman has a 28 day cycle.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 24/02/2009 07:59

Brandybaby

Anyway and far more importantly how are you getting on?.

stac14 · 24/02/2009 11:28

Hey ladies
Just back from the docs, I have to get my full blood works done, she just noticed my thyroid hasnt been checked in a year when it should be checked every 3-6 months typical lol. Still no af, had bad cramp last night but not even any sign of spotting lol

So how is everyone else feeling today? Is there any news?

lots of baby dust ***

stac14 · 24/02/2009 13:03

meant to ask earlier, is anyone else going to try baby aspirin? I think I might as I have an increased risk of m/c due to pcos and under-active thyroid, the info brandybaby has given shows that it helps for increased risk or previous m/c. I know it sounds negative but it can't do any harm. Would love to hear your thoughts ladies before I go buying it. Thanks xxx

AttilaTheMeerkat · 24/02/2009 14:34

Would not take baby aspirin without any medical supervision beforehand or advice to do so from the gynae.

cheekymonkeywanted · 24/02/2009 18:20

hello all...cant believe its only tuesday ahhhhh!!!!!! how do the weeks go so slow. waiting for friday for my d10 scan and hoping there are at least 2 juicey ones waiting to go go go!!! never really wanted twins first time round, now i say bring it on, i dont mind trying to beat the 8? lol! letting my husband have a couple of days break before he gets to work!!!

mummtcat - sounds boring but maybe a nice walk, we tend to go in the evenings relax and have a chat about anything and everything except babies... or if your sporty the gym, swimming, tennis ive got pcos so we tend to try and exercise in our spare time.

stac did you read that somewhere about baby asprin reducing the risk of m/c or did your dr tell you? would be interested to know, im gonna look into that a bit more.

tishb can i join your little list for next update please... im cd8 today.

Alfiemax · 24/02/2009 20:06

Evening Ladies,

Well doc's didn't go as I planned. i was hoping he'd just take my word for it and give me some tablets but noooooo, he has advised swabs so now I have to go to a GUM clinic as the nurse hasn't got an available appt for 2 weeks. I could have cried. His words were this 'I'm not implying that you need a sexual health check nor that you have a sexually related disease, but I wouldn't want you to suffer for the next 2 weeks'. Ok granted that was a nice thing to say if you know what I mean. But this area is rough and I can just imagine the types of people in these clinics :S, sorry my inner snob there lol. Plus I'm desp for some relief and I will now have to have a half day off and I'm in training for a new work area and don't want any time off.

How is everybody tonight? Good I hope.
Sorry ladies, all I've done for the last 2 weeks is moan. I'm not like this all the time honestly. I'm just having one of those 'one thing after another' times at the moment. Where are my knitting needles?? Everyone will be kitted out in numersous scalces before long lol.

BabyDust, Hugs and everything else all round I think.
