MamaMaiasaura · 16/01/2009 23:09

Hi just wondered if people ttc on Clomid wanted to join this thread unless i have been stupid and missed one.

We are due to fertility clinic on 22nd and expect to go on clomid again.

We have 2 dc. Ds1 is nearly 9 and was concieved without fertility help. THis was a big surprise as have PCOS and was told would never conceive naturally.

Ds2 was conceived after 1 course of clomid 50mg. My day 21 test was awful and still no period after 45ish day. Was put on progesterone to induce bleed. Didnt happen as was pregnant.

Was also on metformin but not currently, waiting for all clear next week. I have dodgy lft generally on medication and also bfing.

Ds2 is 1 now and still breastfeeding. Hoping this will not hinder any treatment as really want to continue this too. I am now 33 so fertility decreasing too.

I dont have a cd currently as all up the shoot so waiting to see what happens really.

Hi all

I'm feeling positive now that I have clomid prescription in my hands. Although I'm also scared if won't work this time round and that I may have unrealistic expectations based on last time's experience. Judging by lots of your posts ladies we are really all on a rollercoaster of emotions aren't we?

Brandybaby I did ask consultant about exercise, I think in his roundabout way he was saying being healthy is good, overdoing it probably isn't preparing your body well. He also said we see a lot of women athletes who are able to conceive. so there we are, read into that what you will!

Awen yes to getting progesterone from GP if period doesn't appear in subsequent cycles of clomid

TishB thats really positive news for you, really pleased that you have a new plan to go for

Off to chill!

stac14 · 19/02/2009 21:56

Hi Everyone,
Just thought I would pop in and say hello. How are we all today?
clure Thats god you got the clomid, whens your af due?
Tish you never know, your mum may be right, are you late just now?

I have stopped being a moody cow think my body is getting used to the progesterone, hope i dont need it next month either cos I am pregnant or af comes itself

lots of baby dust to all *

TishB · 19/02/2009 22:42

hi stac14 - i so so wish my mum is right, on CD26, AF due on sunday but im not dying to test or anything - too many months if BFNs so not feeling positive!

Don't mean to put a downer on anyone else so keep positive thoughts everyone!

I am pleased that things are going to be moving on. DH and I are going on a weeks holiday in march, i think i need to put active ttc to the back on my mind and enjoy this time before the stressful (i've read) and emotional roller-coaster ride of AC treatment starts.

Hows eveyone else doing today? x x x

BrandyBaby · 20/02/2009 00:41

Attila
She is me obgyn... But she does fertility as well(everything but IVF). Clomid doesn't have a reverse effects if you ovulate normally... It can only help, not hurt. My doctor had the same thing happen to her as well... She ovulated fine, and then was put on clomid for 4 months and became pregnant herself. I was on 50mg for 4 months, and then she gave me a 4 months supply of 100mg. My dosage isn?t going up and down... I was tested august 16th 2009. I trust what my doctor has advised me to do. She has been a doctor for 24 years and has conceived on clomid as well (twins-boy/girl). I am sorry to hear that you had to go through that. Thank you for that information.

Stac

I went through everything with my doctor, and she told me that it is all safe to take.

Loulabell07

Are you going to take the 100mg now? What days do you think your going to take it?

TishB

It could be an early symptom! Isn?t moms so funny? My mom is the same way! If I cough she thinks I?m pregnant! Lol. Hang in there hun.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 20/02/2009 07:12

Hi Brandybaby,

Unfortunately your assertion is not correct.
Clomid is often used as a first line therapy to "induce and regulate" ovulation. Clomid has little utility in normally ovulating women and, once ovulation is regular, increasing the dosage does not improve pregnancy rates. Clomid should not be used beyond three to six months (usual policy here in the UK).

Some doctors give clomiphene to women with unexplained infertility before the couple has a fertility workup, or even after they have a workup, but there is no evidence of an ovulation disorder. This empiric therapy may create new problems, such as interfering with fertile mucus production, and often delays further evaluation that can lead to a specific diagnosis and proper treatment.

For a woman who has normal, spontaneous ovulation, driving the pituitary harder with clomiphene won't make ovulation any more normal. If a woman has taken clomiphene for several cycles without becoming pregnant, then she and her fertility specialist should investigate other conditions that may be preventing her pregnancy.

After noting a good postcoital test (PCT) during a fertility workup, some doctors fail to repeat the test after placing a woman on clomiphene. A PCT needs to be repeated to check the quality of the woman's cervical mucus while she is on clomiphene, since 25 percent or more of women who take the drug develop cervical mucus problems.

I was only wondering about the dosage simply because because in one of your previous postings different dosages were written from days 1 to 5. Am sorry if I misunderstood that.

I wish you every luck with this I sincerely do but what is she planning to do next in the event that clomid is ultimately unsuccessful?. That needs to be considered also, there should be a back up plan.

To my mind any patient should question doctors and importantly understand why they want you to use x,y or z and why this is being proposed.

As you have not mentioned any diagnosis I presume she has classed you as "unexplained" which is not ideal either. "Unexplained" is infact no diagnosis at all.

With best wishes

Attila

stac14 · 20/02/2009 11:20

Hey attila
was just reading your above post and wondering what a pct test is and what it looks for? I dont think I have had this, but I am at the docs on Tuesday, just in case its something I should have had.

tish
Its hard not to think about the tests, when I had to get the test before starting the progesterone I didnt want to get my hopes up but I still had a wee cry when it was negative, I suppose its the hazard when in our situation. Were you off to on hols? Wish it was me lol

XXXX

AttilaTheMeerkat · 20/02/2009 12:13

Hi Stac14,

Clomid can cause a thickening of mucus in the cervix so a post coital test can tell docs how well the sperms are surviving in the genital tract.

cheekymonkeywanted · 20/02/2009 14:56

Hello people, well i did write a note on another thread on this sight but it doesn't seem to be in use, hope you dont mind me joining you all.

First a little about me. After trying for 2 years it was confirmed that i have pcos and so wasnt ovulating...this was last june/july, i was then put on to clomid (50mg) and although i ovulated first cycle i didnt fall pregnant...anyhow, my second cycle in august i fell pregnant, but unfortunatly i had a missed miscarriage at 4 months and had to be induced into labour as i had gone too far, and so our little boy was born on the 6th November. we were/are gutted and miss him so much

After a few months break, and the worst xmas/new year ever, we are back trying. I have just finished Northisterone (to get my peiod started) and i am now on my first cycle of clomis this year (im taking day 2-5 - on day 3 now)

I feel better already just writing it down anyway i would love to help, follow and keep in touch with other people who are going through the same thing.

Clure · 20/02/2009 15:25

Welcome cheekymonkey so sad to hear of your traumatic time. You'll deffo get lots of support and advice on this thread. I myself just waiting for my period to begin (Cd about 46!!) so I can begin my clomid. xx

stac14 · 20/02/2009 16:22

Hi Cheekymonkey
Welcome to the thread. Sorry to hear about your loss.It must be so difficult for you.
I have pcos too and was diagnosed in july last year, got clomid in January, didn't ov on 50mg so its been upped to 100mg, I am just finishing norethisterone (your the first person I have heard being prescribed it except me everyone else is on provera). hoping to start clomid on wednesday (fingers crossed af comes quickly) This is a very friendly thread and a great source of support. How are you feeling being back on the clomid? What dosage have you been given this time around? Baby dust to you

Hey clure
How are you feeling? Any sign of af? How long are you going to give it or are you going to ask the doc for progesterone? Sorry asking loads of questions lol just nosey

cheekymonkeywanted · 20/02/2009 16:43

thanks clure, so strange when your not ttc you never look forward to af, and now if we are not pregnant we cant wait to get started
is this your first time on clomid?

hi stac14 yeh i was given northisterone last year to get me started, only had one natural period in early january bloody typical it was the day we went on holiday so didnt have the tablets with me... and because like you will know with pcos you dont always get regular periods, so the doc just said to take it again.

Im trying to be hopeful about it,im back on 50mg as i ovulate on that and it worked last time. im just hopeing it works first time this time round, although i am trying to be a little more relaxed about it. I have my scan next friday (to see if theres an egg ready to go)

doesnt it seem like the whole world is pregnant? except you! lol!

stac14 · 20/02/2009 16:53

yeah cheekymonkey everyone is either pregnant or already have their baby, I seem to walk about saying awww all the time, think people think I am mad.
It is very hard to stay relaxed when ttc, I never thought it would be this hard as I have a DS who is nearly 10 and he was conceived naturally.
I stopped the pill last april to ttc and had the break bleed with that then had nothing until I took the norethisterone in January. Do you find you get moody with the norethisterone? I felt quite down in the middle of taking it but it could have been a combo of other things. xx

BrandyBaby · 20/02/2009 17:37

Attila
I do hope that this month will do the trick! I take robitussin to help with my cervical mucus.
My doctor told me that I don?t have a fertility problem. She said I haven?t even tried long enough. But I will just have to wait and see. Thank you for letting me know that.

Cheekymonkey

I am so sorry for your loss. Stay strong! Lots of baby dust!

Clure · 20/02/2009 17:54

stac going to give it a couple of weeks before heading to GP for progesterone (not sure whether to request norethissterone or provera - again this is a new one on me!What are your opinions on this?) No sign of AF, but this last year of erratic periods has shown every 2 or 3 months apart. The last couple of periods 2 months apart. Feeling anxious really. Are you looking forward to getting onto the clomid on Wednesday?

cheekymonkey I have a 4 year old DD who was conceived on cycle one of clomid when I was 37. I was given it due to hormone imbalance. Which has become apparent it's still there! Had consultant appointment on monday and pcos was ruled out. I am going to be taking 50mg again. Problem now is that my egg supply is decreasing (over the hill at 41!!

MamaMaiasaura · 20/02/2009 21:24

AlfieMax CD11
Awen CD14 on 1st round 100mg clomid.

Tishb - CD26
clure CD48
Loulabelle - CD52
stac14 CD - Day 8Progesterone

Hi all. Sorry been busy last few days and having a hard time catching up.

CHeekymonkey - hi and welcome. Sorry about your ds xxx
It is a positive thing that clomid has made you ov before so it should theoretically work again.

I have been dumb and taken opk despite all the advice not to. Well had 1-2 days were they were same colour and today is a negative. Have had stringy stretchy (finger test) cm which was yesterday and day before. But surely if i have only just ov the lh would still behigh, although i am still bfing and also PCOS buggers it up too. Why why why did i go weak?

Ditto the at everyone being pregnant at the moment.

Kept up with the bding daily here so hoping if i have that it has done the trick. So trying not to get hopeful as last time i was on clomid the 21 bloods weredismal, having said that i did then concieve. I just want to know now.. never been very patient.

Question for anyone, i am really sore and achey in my womb area, had niggling cramps 2-3 days were ovaries are but they subsided today. Does this sound hopeful??

OP posts:
stac14 · 20/02/2009 21:25

clure I have only used progesterone so I dont know what one is best but from what awen has said they are kind of the same drugs and do the same thing so I don't think it matters too much, your gp will know what one is best for you. I am looking forward to Wednesday but kind of aprehensive too just in case the side effects are worse this time lol

mummycat1 · 21/02/2009 11:12

cheekymonkey hello to you and sorry to hear your ttc story - hope you get lucky very soon.

Clure you are sounding very positive - hope af comes soon for you.

TishB keep us updated

Awen I had the same sore and achey womb and ovary feelings as you describe around ov time. Also had some really nasty biting tummy pains a couple of days ago too - but I'm not thinking about it - honest - just trying really hard to not think about it and probably actually thinking about it lots without admitting it to myself. lol

Hello to all you other lovely ladies:Stac14, Loulabelle, Brandy and Attilla and anyone I might have missed.

Have been feeling pretty stressed here. My sis has just had her 20 week scan and I want so much to be able to chat to her about it and be supportive. Have talked a bit on the phone, but was just dying inside .

Was v emotional yesterday and also rather blue. Can't stand the 2WW at all. Have even considered giving up ttc tbh. Though it's probably unlikely that I will and more likely that I will just keep riding this crazy rollercoaster.

Am now compiling top ten list of activities to do to keep your mind off of ttc. Am focussing lots on work and visiting my best mate for lunch next weekend.

baby dust to everyone xx

mummycat1 · 21/02/2009 11:20

Had bloods done yesterday - CD20

Also forgot to say thanks to Awen for keeping the list up to date x

Clure · 21/02/2009 13:14

Hello all

mummycat I hadn't mentioned this earlier but my sister too is now about 22 weeks pg. It's tough, although I'm so very happy for her. So I know how your feeling on that score. hugs to you

stac thanks for info on progersterone

A question for you all. When I take clomid (days 2-6) when is the best time to bd? Thanks

Gorge day, just done 18k run. Feeling good though legs bit tired

cheekymonkeywanted · 21/02/2009 15:50

18k run - are you mad hahahaha!!!!!

as im new to all this short hand, what does bd stand for? im sort of working out the rest, but cant get that one, probably something really simple. I think its the clomid making me lose my mind honestly!

mummycat - i know its hard trying to be pleased for everyone else, especially if they are family and friends, just after my loss, my best friend told me she was pregnant on her first month of trying. she lives in australia, but its so hard to speak to her (although she doesnt know that) im so happy for her, but just so mad at her aswell (if you understand what i mean) i want to talk to her about everything else but baby..but of course you cant stop them being happy.....

mummycat1 · 21/02/2009 20:46

cheekymonkey I relate completely to how you are feeling. Feels nice to have others who understand. It makes you feel a little more normal!

I've watched loads of people conceive seemingly easily and have their babies whilst I am still TTC. I had a traumatic miscarriage in Nov 2007, though not as bad as yours. Last year I think I must have seemed pretty loony to most of my work mates and I retreated from the social scene too. Am ok now - most of the time

bd means baby-dancing - sex!!

clure I take on days 2-6 and was told by my fertlity dept to do OPKs from day 12 on first month - when I conceived dd, I had surge on day 16. This time round the situ is different as my eggs keep getting big and I am having an extra injection on CD13 to release them before they are over-ripe so to speak. Are you having a scan to check your ovaries on CD12 or thereabouts?

Clure · 21/02/2009 21:24

mummycat I haven't been offered ANY kind of monitoring. I wasn't last time either, but I conceived on cycle 1. Reading what you and many other ladies on this thread seems very poor care.

Can i just ask generally whether you all are having nhs or private treatment? Does this determine better care or does it depend on the authority?

mummycat1 · 21/02/2009 21:32

I'm with NHS and I got two scans first month to see how my bod was reacting. Now have just the one a month, but I feel sure they'd do more if I needed it. I feel well cared for, but am scared of them taking my Clomid away after 6 months. I have to pay £160 a month for the scans as I am not childless.

MamaMaiasaura · 21/02/2009 21:54

I am with nhs too. No scan this month but blood test on Friday. been bding every day since cd6 - was on clomid cd2-6. Think i might have ov'd around cd12 but really dont know and probably all in my head. You aremeant to ov between 5 and 9 days after last tablets. We are still bding every night. Will carry on doing so till after day 21 bloods then go every other night till either AF or bfp.. or provera.

I have children but dont have to pay at all and am allowed up to 12 months clomid.

OP posts:
stac14 · 22/02/2009 17:13

Hey ladies
How are you today? I am with the nhs also, I haven't been offered any scans but will have bloods done cd 21, cd28 & cd35 I have 1 son so not sure if thats why I haven't been given scans, but generally find its a postcode lottery
I also found a website that has a clomid ovulation calculator that calculates your fertile days for when you have taking the tablets
www.babymed.com/tools/fertility/clomid/default.aspx its worth a look to give you a rough idea expecially if like me because of pcos cant use opk
Hope this helps. Well I finished the norethisterone yesterday and am waiting for af to come, hope its soon last time it took 5 days before I came on properly, think I am getting too impatient lol

Did everyone have a nice weekend?
