My house is ofen not very fragrant tbh betweeen dh's lovely wind habits and DDs potty training!

May try your recipe too.

beamel · 01/03/2009 19:02

Hi All,

Hope you all had a good weekend. Having to tolerate AF but have been enjoying wine and seafood.
Then went shopping and somehow ended up purchasing a CBFM ! It just sort of leaped into my basket in Boots. I see hours of fun spent peeing on sticks this time round.
The ovulation microscope was just the start !

nan - what a horrid dream, deffo no blue cheese for you !

bump - absolutely give it a go, it only takes one follicle !

Now for another small glass of wine, it will be time to switch back to grapefruit juice soon enough ! LOL !

rowingboat · 01/03/2009 20:51

Mmm - potties! I used to hate cleaning DS's potty. Groo! How is the potty training, not too stressful?
I forgot to say that you have the sauce with pasta - probably quite obvious though.
Beam are you sure you can't get one of those sonogram scanning machines somewhere, you could do scans as well.

beamel · 02/03/2009 19:56

Evening,
Hope everyone well ?

Had gynae appt today.
Pelvic ultrasound and battery of blood tests on day 3 next cycle. Followed by HSG a week later. Then back to discuss with consultant.
Fine with all except HSG, don't fancy that much !

rowing - maybe I'll just get the kit and do my own scans - LOL !

nanbred · 02/03/2009 22:51

Hello all,

You've definitely lost me there Beamel, what is it?, sounds very technical and impressive, I reckon you and Bump should open a fertility-coaching clinic, or co-author a best seller, just need one of you pg, and it's in the bag!

Hope all the cheese fiends are doing well, and the protein is, as we speak, building fantastic quality eggs.

Tetley, were the results of your test ok, hoping so?

StarX, new name, new month, ..new chances?

Hi Rowing, yes always wake when it gets too scary. The upside is the fantastic sense of relief and well-being that follows consciousness. Haven't managed to dream to order yet, but I believe it is possible.

Don't know about HSG Beamel, is it just a needle to inject dye? When I had lap and dye and hysteroscopy, it was relatively pain free, and I recovered in about 3 days. People respond differently though. At least you are having a relatively fast turnaround for the feedback, which is comforting. Fingers crossed for you. My temp actually went up this am, so feeling optimistic also for myself, hope this is ov for me, if not will be in deep despair in a few days.

nanbred · 02/03/2009 22:55

Oops, forgot to mention, Fifi, you've inspired me. I have found a fertility acupuncture clinic about 70 miles away, which I could get to from work in reasonable time! Will phone tomorrow to get prices and time commitment, can't believe I am even considering this.

fifitot · 03/03/2009 08:31

70 miles! Good luck though! I just used one that did the full gamut of stuff but I guess a specialist one would be better.

I am a big believer in acupuncture actually. Let us know how you get on!

spiralqueen · 03/03/2009 16:25

hi just joined mumsnet. My story: spent my 20's & 30's not seriously considering parenthood. Got together with my now DH when I was 43. Neither of us thought we could have children (me old age (LOL) and him told so by doctors after an bike accident in his teens), DH gave up smoking and 2 months later to our immense shock I was pregnant. Our DD arrived just before my 45th birthday. I've just turned 46 and TTC #2 for the last 8mths.

It feels like we discovered this really great shop and bought something fantastic and now we've gone back to get something else and they've let us in to look at what's on offer but have pointed out that they're trying to close and we don't know if we can get to the till in time.

We're trying to take the if it happens great, if it doesn't it wasn't meant to be approach but it's very hard sometimes.

Have had blood tests and been told I'm nowhere near menopause but that's it.

nanbred · 03/03/2009 16:47

Welcome Spiralqueen!, well done on DD, that is such an inspiring story, and resonates a little with mine, we met when I was 41, dp was 42. Know too well how you feel, (apart from the good bit ). I'm 45 next month and no joy yet for us. Lots of encouragement here though in the hut of hope!

fifitot · 03/03/2009 16:58

Hello Spiralqueen. I love your analogy. Exactly how it feels. I am 46 soon and like you ttc number 2.

Feeling well pissed off as think AF coming.

gonepearshaped · 04/03/2009 13:02

Hi Spiralqueen, great analogy, that's just how it feels!

Got a question - been charting on ff - last month af 6 days late, this month ff says I ov ed few days back and temp has been up (slightly, never changes that much) for three days. But no ewcm and opk resolutely neg.

Also ff says my luteal phase varies too much and maybe I should see GP. I just started a vit B complex (along with a serious regime of suppliments, excercise and maximal BDing .

I read somewhere B vits can extend luteal phase, I have had short ones in past (min 7 days) and then last month's weirdness made the max 20 days!

I know short luteal phase means v hard to get pg and can be symptom of PCOS but I pretty sure I don't have that (surely at my age I'd know by now?)

Is this just ff giving me odd ov dates or what - sorry for super long post, am very confused and wanting to share

latestarter2009 · 04/03/2009 18:00

hi everyone and welcome spiralqueen - i've only just married my DH so hope we will have a similar outcome....

so much has been happening....sorry AF got you beam, though i like your gadget buying style and wine appreciation.....i have the cbfm, this is the first month and it is good that it identifies the important days, but it does get boring peeing on so many sticks!

bump...sorry about the IVF, but i hope you are doing enough bding to make us all proud...all it takes is one follicle

are you hanging in there fifi? i'm glad you reminded me that cooked blue cheese is ok....i love blue cheese and keep forgetting that cooked is ok

hi gonepearshaped, sorry i can't give you much comfort, my books all say that a short luteal phase could be the result of luteal phase deficiency which is not enough progesterone....a gp visit to get expert opinion might be the best next step - I know FF hangs everything of BBT, but temps can go up and down for so many reasons, I would be hesitant to completely accept their detection of ovulation without any other signs - sorry not much help

i'm about 6dpo(FF are I are currently in disagreement as to when I ovulated) and am very pleased that i am doing zero sympton spotting and not even looking at FF other than to put temps in.....am very lucky as DH is taking me to new york tomorrow for a couple of days which should keep me occupied tracking down some bargains

i especially like your devil may car attitude vonsud

beamel · 04/03/2009 20:07

Hi All,

AF gone so washed up wine glass for another cycle.

nan - sure the HSG will be fine, I'm just not a great patient. Have been swotting up and you are quite right they just squirt dye through the cervix and take pictures. No anaesthetic or anything.
Hows the temping going have you got that rise yet ?

Latestarter - This is my first cycle with the monitor too. Had this idea maybe after a couple of cycles it could replace the temping. Not sure I'll be able to give it up though ! The obsessive compulsive part of me quite enjoys it.

spiral - I am yet another who can relate to your story. Welcome and love the analogy !

gonepearshaped - How confusing ! Do you normally get +ve OPks, could you have missed the peak ?

fifi - fingers crossed AF gets lost for a few months !

The ov microscope is an interesting gadget - no ferning yet of course but occupies 10 minutes in the mornings ! Just gearing up to start peeing on the CBFM sticks as of tomorrow. How exciting !

Hope everyone feeling relatively cheerful tonight,
Bea x

fifitot · 04/03/2009 20:41

AF due today or tomorrow and so took a test BFN so awaiting the inevitable.

BTW - I think FF can get confused and isn't as accurate as we might like to think as unless you can temp really at same time every morning, the room for error is significant. I take it as a rough guide tbh. Said the same thing about my LP but tbh I just think my temps are up and down so nt taking it too seriously.

Juicylucytoo · 04/03/2009 21:42

Just checking in to say I'm back. Will post more tomorrow. With the w/e, have managed to BD 6 days on the trot .

Must go. DH's last night

rowingboat · 04/03/2009 21:45

Hi all,
great story Spiral, good luck with the bding!
Fifi, fingers crossed.
GPS, I think B6 is the one for the short luteal phase, there is something on that either further up this thread or on the previous thread. I think agnus castus is another contender for extending the luteal phase. COC on this thread, I think was using progesterone cream and VSF I think was using B6.
I think, if you do a search on agnus castus + lutealon MN you will find some threads about the luteal phase. I did a quick search and found this one
Beam, can't wait to hear if you get ferning this cycle.
My news is that the dude in Hungary has offered me the 25th March and I have booked the day off, so I now have to reply to him.
I'm not sure how this works, but AF turned up yesterday so it will be just after seeing him at the end of the month. I wonder if I will be able to start straight away. That would be cool/scary.

spiralqueen · 05/03/2009 10:39

what are FF and BBT? Am a bit lost!

Thanks for the welcome. I'm mid cycle and had really bad sinus pain yesterday and back in that dilema of whether or not to take some pain medication which says not for use in pregnancy. Should I be optimistic and not have it just in case or to take the pessimistic bound not to have been lucky again so what the hell...

Life was so much simpler before DDs conception

latestarter2009 · 05/03/2009 11:41

hi spiralqueen - i know just how you feel re sinuses, i have chronic sinusitus, which means i end up with an infection and really sick all the time, it's a complete drag...last month i was trying to keep of the sudafed, but it has to be a balance particularly when you might be or might not be....i don't want to tell you how to suck eggs, but if you don't know there are lots of things you can do to help, let me know

FF is www.fertilityfriend.com where you can record and track your cycle data such as BBT - which is basal body temperature. It is quite full-on but even if you don't want to do the tracking, there is a lot of information on fertility and conception which is helpful

are you ttc#1? i am and yes adjusting to even this part of the process, let alone kids makes you pine for your old decadent and thoughtless life

rowing the 25th is not far away.....do you think you will get a chance to look around budapest (i assume this is where the clinic is)it is really lovely

beamel i'm obsessive complusive as well, but maybe just lazy - i haven't even completed one cycle temping and don't think i'll bother next month....you can get a positive on the monitor and the sticks, but not actually ovulate, so technically the only way to know that you have ovulated is if you get the temp rise, but everything then regarding the temps need to be 100% spot on and i'm lazy with that as well

spiralqueen · 05/03/2009 12:17

latestarter - TTC #2. Any tips on sinus pain gratefully received as I've started to get quite a bit of it along with nosebleeds and blocked tear ducts.

rowingboat · 05/03/2009 17:19

Ooo Spiral I know what you mean. I had it on one side for ages, it makes you feel so fuzzy-headed and rubbish doesn't it!
I bought a cheapie steamer from Lidl and use it with tea tree once a day when I'm very bad. I think it's the cold weather and all the central heating that really goes for my sinuses.
You can take paracetamol when you are pg, even if you take one tablet it might help.
Have you been getting out much, the fresh air seems to help me a bit?
If it's any consolation, I can't temp at all, just don't remember in the morning and then it's too late. I just used to go on OPKs and CM and occasionally the old checking the cervix. I think the ferning thing would be great though, you don't have to remember to do when you wake up - suits me!
LS can you come with me to Hungary? I wish we could all go to Hungary then it wouldn't be so scary. Haven't booked the flights yet, been very busy with other stuff (and too scared - wah!)
Must get onto that tonight....

Juicylucytoo · 05/03/2009 21:11

would love to come with you rowing

DH now gone and meant to start detox today maybe tomorrow... now on 2ww so had better at least try to believe it might happen.

nanbred · 05/03/2009 23:15

Hi everyone

Beamel - one sort of rise, but won't know yet if it's sustained, just one elevated temp. At this rate I'll be on the B6 and Agnus soon too.

Fifi, sorry AF imminent, take your point with the temping, very confusing if you get up at different times every day.

Juicy, sounds like you've been having fun. Good luck with detox, stay strong, hot water is great!

Rowing we are coming with you, virtual flight tickets booked, we'll be standing outside the clinic smoking virtual fags with the virtual chocs at the ready, and wine in brown paper bags!- swig anyone?!

rowingboat · 05/03/2009 23:50

Yay Nan! That cheers me up no end.
I wish I could send my virtual self and my real self could stay at home. I'm such a baby.
Better hop off to bed.
Has anyone seen the new 10 years younger? I can't bear the thought of Myleene Klass or however she spells her name. She is 'klassy' though and 'jenuine'. [bleuch face]

fifitot · 06/03/2009 07:45

Damn AF here. Sigh.

fifitot · 06/03/2009 09:29

Trying to think this through. I know am OVing as charts consistently show this, with a 11-12 day LP - so think all in working order.

Got pg within 3 months when 42 but now 45 and been ttc for 6 months. Assuming DH's boys are still Ok (haven't tested) - is it just that my eggs aren't fertilizing because they are old? I assume the sperm is getting there due to my obsessive charting and bding around the right time. I know there is no guarantee that you will get pg just by doing this and I think in TCOYF it is still only a percentage chance of getting pg if doing it by the book. So is it my ancient eggs then?

Any thoughts?
