Thanks xss - twas me that had forgotten. I knew I'd heard the term before, but had forgotten what it was!

xss - what are your Marilyn supps??

xserialshopper · 28/09/2008 15:12

Here are the supplements that I take If nothing else, I do feel well and never feel tired in the mornings

OP posts:
xserialshopper · 28/09/2008 15:43

By the way, has anyone heard from Heron22?

If you're lurking Heron - 'How are you?'

OP posts:
rhetorician · 28/09/2008 16:54

ah yes, bossy Marilyn. Her website is more draconian than her book, Getting Pregnant Faster ( methinks not bloody fast enough); she is known in our house as the fascist lady. It's quite hard to stick to - I lost weight when I did the full monty (no white carbs, no sugar etc etc) which doesn't do much for your fertility either! I'm not saying it doesn't work and I certainly take the supplements (vit B complex, vit E, selenium, and zinc). So maybe those eggs will get their act together soon!

Hope everyone is enjoying some autumn sunshine; glorious here today.

Juicylucytoo · 28/09/2008 20:16

I always thought GF was the fascist - or am I opening a can of worms??

Got some kind of bug. Headache and runs. What's that about???

Heho, takes my mind off having to wait another month...

Juicylucytoo · 28/09/2008 20:27

Thanks for the link xss, but oh buggar...

One study showed that women who drank less than 5 units of alcohol a week (equal to five glasses of wine) were twice as likely to get pregnant within six-months compared with those who drank more.

Looks like I will seriously have to do what I said I was going to and knock it on the head.

Juicylucytoo · 28/09/2008 20:39

Think I got my symbols wrong, but you know what I mean!

rowingboat · 28/09/2008 21:27

Hi Juicy, I was horrified at the research about coffee drinkers. I love a coffee or two in the morning. I did however, manage to switch to green tea for a couple of weeks, which was a bit tough to begin with, but it did get better. Now I'm back on the coffee, but I think I could probably cut out coffee if I needed.
Alcohol was never as hard to give up. I went from drinking 8 pints of beer a night at the weekend plus whisky to next to nothing.
I hardly ever drink due to rubbish social life and the fact I don't like to drink at home much, just in pubs and clubs. Don't even like wine with a meal, I think it masks the the taste of the food.
I don't think you really miss alcohol that much when you stop, coffee on the other hand, that's a killer.
Am I helping?

Juicylucytoo · 28/09/2008 22:01

Giving up coffee, easy. Giving up alcohol

rhetorician · 28/09/2008 23:23

virtually gave up caffeine even though I really thought that I couldn't (I was an eight cups of tea a day kind of gal), and have got used to it. Doubt I'll ever go back to those levels (but perhaps sleep deprivation might drive me there...?) Alcohol consumption massively curbed too, but for me a nice glass of wine and a cup of good coffee are real quality of life issues. Anyhow, whilst I can see the arguments at the extreme end, the world is full of evidence that neither caffeine nor (especially!) alcohol are reliable contraceptives . I hold fast to the view that my couple of glasses of wine a week probably do more good than harm . Must go to bed, another working week beckons.

fifitot · 29/09/2008 07:42

What is the research about caffeine? Can someone tell me?

heron22 · 29/09/2008 08:00

Hi X! hello! i am fine and yes, i have been lurking! how are you ? i am now nearly 24 weeks. all is going well with little one. for me, i am starting to get real tired again. ankles swelling up, huge belly, just the norm

i read briefly you have been taking some supplements?

i agree with you, BDing can be so tiresome, i used pre-seed you know. it is a real lifesaver. they're expensive tho!

xserialshopper · 29/09/2008 10:01

Hi Heron Good to hear from you. I missed your posts. Hope you're over your D now that you're so far gone I missed your posts. Have you joined any of the ante natal threads yet (though I'm expecting you to stay on this one until the birth)?

Do you know what you're having? I can't remember if you said -- it's been soooooooo long The tiredness is a bugger isn't it.

I'm taking the supplements that I showed in the link (just scroll down to the bottom of the page if you click the link). If (or when) I get preggi I think I can continue to take them though I would skip the Linseed and reduce the b6 and zinc to 1/2 dosage.

Well I totally failed in doing a cece. Just wanted to finish reading my book in bed sat night - so I did So, we've done cd8, cd 11, cd13, cd15, cd17 and we might do tonigh (cd18). I'm just tired of bding on prescription.

OP posts:
rhetorician · 29/09/2008 10:46

xserial - think you did very well Lovely to hear from Heron - I remember yr posts from my lurking days...gearing up for action, chez rhet - hope I'm going to manage to do a cece too - at least in terms of the result.

back to work...

heron22 · 29/09/2008 10:50

hi X, no, i have not joined any ante natal threads. and i do lurk around a lot on this thread

i must have missed something, did Cece get a BFP?

well done on BDing so much !
i still think that getting those acupuncture treatments worked for me, plus taking the supplements.

xserialshopper · 29/09/2008 11:05

Yep our lovely cece is up the duff

OP posts:
rowingboat · 29/09/2008 11:20

Hi Heron that's great to hear you are doing well.
Cece has a BFP and so does Daisy5 who has gone off on holiday now. We are definitely going for IVF now and are just sorting out passports - must get a new photo sorted out!!!
Well done X-serial, just think about the lovely baby you will be cuddling to get through day 18.
Caffeine there seems to be a bit of a debate, but apparently drinking more than diddly da cups of coffee lowers conception rates. Do a search on the internet, there is quite a lot there.
Horrid giving up coffee in the morning, I have a lot more of a problem staying awake in the morning than relaxing at night.

xserialshopper · 29/09/2008 11:46

Hi Rowing. Have you actually booked into the clinic? If 'yes' when will you be going?

For next month...

I DO SOLEMNLY DECLARE THAT I XSS WILL BD ON DAYS CD09 CD11 CD13 CD15 CD16 CD17 IN OCTOBER 2008 SO HELP ME GOD

Anything before or after those days are a bonus

I wonder how Daisy is getting on with telling her dh....

OP posts:
rowingboat · 29/09/2008 12:22

I know! I wonder if they are throwing things at each other. Hopefully, they are lounging around holding hands.
Xserial - I will be round to check up if you don't stick to those days. With any luck you won't need to, this will be your month.
I haven't made an appointment, we can't decide whether to go to Poland (easy flights from our local airport) or Hungary (more appealing to me, but more difficult to get to).
To make things more confusing there is another clinic in the Czech Repulic, which is very highly regarded and I emailed them last night.
There are other pros and cons regarding treatment, but the costs are roughly the same.
A lady from a fertility forum is phoning me tonight about the Hungarian clinic - she has already been there, so that might help.
DP and I will have to have a discussion about this.
It's such a lot of money that we want to be sure we have the best chance with minimal stress.

heron22 · 29/09/2008 12:59

hi rowing! good luck with your IVF i have read that having acupuncture during IVF increases chances of success.

fifitot · 29/09/2008 13:00

Rowingboat thanks for the info re caffeine. I think I will change to decaff now!

Good luck with your ivf.

rowingboat · 29/09/2008 13:31

Hi Heron, I'll see what I can do, but I'm confused enough about where I am going to stay. I will have to be there (somewhere in Europe) for two weeks. I don't think DP needs to be there for most of that time. It would be better for me if DP and DS were there, to make it a little holiday. I just wish I knew when I were going, we are getting some money from family, but they have to release the cash, and we have no time scales, just 'as soon as we can'.
Fifitot, good luck with that. I wish I could stop the morning coffee, but I'm so sleepy without it.
My DP makes me lots of tea as well, and I love when I get home and we have dinner and he makes me a lovely cup of tea. Not that bothered about stopping right now, because of the IVF, I feel as if I don't need to bother so much.
Rhet I'm so impressed with your reduction in caffeine. A cup a day, that's so lovely isn't it!

roquefortlover · 29/09/2008 13:38

Hi all!

Heron, lovely to hear from you again and so glad it's all going well - gives us all hope!

rhet, rowing and JLtoo, I am also thinking about the caffeine/alcohol thing having read that research. I'm not too bad on the caffeine, only drink decaff tea/coffee at home and have maybe 1 latte with caffeine per day from Caffe Nero or similar. I have cut it out completely before and it's been OK so I might try again.

Alcohol on the other hand - oh dear. DH and I really enjoy unwinding over a bottle of wine most evenings and I do miss it - we hardly ever go out so it is our little treat really. Having said that i did cut back radically last autumn for a few months and it gradually crept up after the cp and mc!

Anyway, we both need to lose some weight so have said we are on a bit of a diet including no more than 1 small glass of wine per night (average!) so am going to try and stick to that and have more alcohol free nights too.

xss, I use Preseed too - I like it and also was using it when I got pg before so I "have faith". Am going to do grapefruit juice this month too and try to remember to take multivits (npthing special just ordinary cheapo ones)

Oh yes, and "do it" every night around OV!!

Phew, what a mammoth list/post

roquefortlover · 29/09/2008 13:39

sorry that was heron who mentioned preseed, not xss

rowingboat · 29/09/2008 13:53

I would like to lose a bit of weight as well Roque, not a proper diet, but just cutting out biccies and cake. That's how DP and I relax, we have dinner and a nice pudding and watch a film. So perhaps a smaller portion and just a film might be better.
I did start running a month ago and did two weeks, went on holiday and haven't been running since. There is a running program online, but you have to go three times a week, and I couldn't manage more than two for some reason. Perhaps two runs and a big walk would be OK or two runs and an exercise video.
Does anyone remember Callanetics? We were talking about this at work, that was so popular for a while. I wonder if it comes on DVD now?? Hmm!
Ramble ramble!
