Hi All,

This is a difficult time for most women (and men) I think.

Certainly for me, I've waited a long time to get to this stage , having not met Mr Right until the age of 31. Now 34 and got married 2 months ago and now want to complete the family!

So, just started "trying" for a baby and due to my impatient nature, have already started using Ovulation Kits. (Probably not a good idea). I also did the Female Fertility Test and that seemed to have a good result aswell.

I was on Dianette for 8 years and came off of it 3 years ago. My cycles became regular again but every 5 weeks instead of 4. I had previously come off of the pill for 6 months and my cycles were regular, so I guess all this is a good sign.

Anyone else had similar experiences and fallen pregnant quickly? I know everyone's different but any good news stories help move us all along!! .

xx

Hey girls,

Just coming in to say goodbye for a while. I think Pip is gone, or certainly going and although it sounds crazy, I've decided not to go for the scan today. I don't want someone telling me what I already know.

My PG symptoms have gone pretty much completely and literally overnight, so I'm convinced that's the end of it.

I need some time out I think before I start deciding whether to try again, so I'm going to try and focus on something else.

I wish all you ladies all the luck in the world, you're all so lovely and have been such a support (and a laugh) over the last few weeks. Hopefully I'll be back at some point.

There's some babydust to help you on your way....

summerbird · 29/07/2008 09:17

dawn am sending you lots of love and hugs from the summerbirds. you take lots of care of yourself and come back to us when you feel ready. i feel really for you but agree you should focus on something else for a little while. lots of love xxxxxxx

kalikaroo my parents and inlaws live away too, so its a tricky one. i would rather tell my parents face to face rather than the telephone but it is your call. Would they not notice you are not drinking/eating certain stuff? It is your call but i say take the opportunity you have and tell them, and give the inlaws a telephone call.

eth you make me PMSL about the friends fiancee and the sandwich - and the wine fuelled hugs - i was on the white last night!!

flirty you rampant little bunny! mind you i too had no BD plans last night until DH - erhem - intervened!! On CD22 but thought it was worth a try!

FlirtyThirty · 29/07/2008 09:25

summerbird - PMSL at the thought of me being a 'rampant little bunny'! Quite hilarious! And tell me...is it bad that whilst in 'the act', I was adtually thinking...hmmm...wonder if one of these little wrigglers will get me PG!?!

Flirty x

Bonifacio · 29/07/2008 09:30

Kalikaroo I know what you mean about the dilemma, we will be going back to UK at xmas and if I get PG this month I will be 4/5 ish month gone by the time we are in UK. Ideally we would like to tell them face to face but do you think they would be upset if we waited an extra month to tell them??? And ideas??

I'm going to jump DP when he gets his ass home!!

bluestarlavender · 29/07/2008 09:44

Dawn - I've replied on the other thread, but will say again...you should go and have the scan, for your own safety as well as in case Pip is okay. I am so sorry for you. And I'm sorry if I'm coming across as being harsh...I know a scan with bad news would be awful, but I'm just wanting you to be okay and secretly I really think Pip might be okay too.

Kalikaroo - I think you should tell them face-to-face only if, if anything goes wrong, you would find it easier to go through with their support. I would want my family and DH's family to know

Oh and I've been playing on FF and think I've found the prediction bit now!! phew!

BSL x

FlirtyThirty · 29/07/2008 09:50

Kalikaroo - CONGRATULATIONS!!!! I totally missed the announcement! Wow - well done you! That's a very clear positive! When are you due...? 9Oh, and thanks for the dust!)

Personally, I don't think I could wait 4/5 months to tell my parents... I'm going to really hold out for 12weeks, as I don't want to tempt fate or have them disappointed if things don't work out (stupid I realise, as they would totally support me if anything went wrong). I see my mum and dad regularly, and my problem is going to be concealing the fact for that long...they WILL get suspicious if I don't drink. We are very much a family for sitting down to family dinners and nice wines. If I were to get PG this month (which curiously, I don't think is going to happen for some reason)...but I were, I would probably manage it because Dh nd I have some holiday planned as do mum and dad, so we wouldn't see them for at least 5weeks whilst we were all away, then I would be 10weeks pregnant by the time I saw them, and I reckon I could pull off a couple of weeks of not-drinking with some 'post-holiday detox' bullsh*t...?!

summerbird · 29/07/2008 09:52

steady bonifaco your DP is a lucky lucky guy!

flirtythirty i do that too - in fact afterwards my DH gives them encouragement and says 'come on lads'!!!!!!! is that TMI??

heverhoney1 · 29/07/2008 09:58

Dawn I really feel for you sweetie but I have to back up what others have said. Go for the scan. If it is good news then GREAT!! but even if it is the worst then it will at least give you a bit of closure. Please Please think about going xxxxx

Flirty Thanks for the info. I knew faint line wasnt a positive but I was secretly hopeing that it meant the hormones were there and they would surge soon. But I think I was kidding myself thinking that 1 regular cycle after 4 years meant that I was back to normal. Thanks for the link the first response tests cost an arm and a leg and that was with me getting a BOGOF deal. Esp when I dont know when or if I am likely to ovulate!!!!

Bonifacio · 29/07/2008 10:10

Hmm i'md really struggle here with not telling people as we go out often and drink often. I have openly said that claiming not drinking due to antibiotics, detox etc is bullshit so screwed it up for myself really really don't know what I am going to tell people. Maybe I could say I am being supportive of my PG friend as her DH isn't!! Any idea's anyone??!?!?

We do want to tell people at 12 weeks but it would be so much more fun to tell them in person. I'm so glad i'm over here though, so that people can't come and visit straight away (selfish I know but DP's family are grabby grabby hog your PFB type and my mum is the judgey judget everything your doing is wrong type!) I will love to have them here but after we have at least got bf established or something!!

Heverhoney Hope you OV soon!! I am now I have the EWCM yey!! I am going to go make my DP a lovely dinner put on a teeny tiny skirt (after seeing advice from another mnetter) (without panties sorry way TMI) he won't be able to resist

Summerbird your right he's in trouble

heverhoney1 · 29/07/2008 10:17

OMG just saw the link you sent how many should I buy??????? The overly optomistic 10 or the down right pessimistic 100??????

FlirtyThirty · 29/07/2008 10:25

Heverhoney - I think I bought 30. I figured that way, I could test every bloody day of my cycle if I wanted for a tenner. At least, I'd know when I was OVing (roughly) without breaking the bank. I plan on testing every day with them, and then confirming a positive with a First Response one to 'save' them...and my bank account.

eth37 · 29/07/2008 10:29

Morning everyone!

Dawn - You poor thing... If you're still about, take it easy and look after yourself. Make sure DH is fully focused on you. I would also back up Heverhoney - go for a scan and then you can deal with the outcome knowing it's certain, IYSWIM? Good luck.

Heverhoney - I bought 50 sticks from accessdiagnostics.co.uk - free delivery and pretty cheap. TBH it takes me a ton each month as I think i must only have the LH surge for about 10 minutes! Last month I wasted about 15...

I think if (WHEN) I were PG, I would end up telling close family straight away, but the dilemma is that DH's twin brother is friends with a lot of our friends, so would we say to his mum not to tell his brother?? Which I think she would find hard to do as he is living with her at the min. Is that mean?

Phew - have recovered from the dinner party now - they're coming over in a couple of weeks, maybe I should make a monster lasagne or something to show them normal portion sizes!! (or maybe me and DH are greedy... )

heverhoney1 · 29/07/2008 10:30

oooohhhhh goood plan!!!! think I might need a few more though as:

    • I am not very patient!!! used 2 sticks yesterday 1 this morning and no doubt will use another tonight "Just in case"
    • Cycle dodgy as anything so even at 1 a day 30 might not cover it!

Getting them may be a problem though, I am trying not to tell DP about the OV sticks as I dont want him to know the degree of my obsession and I dont want him to feel like a baby making machine.

eth37 · 29/07/2008 10:42

Well I ordered 50 and they literally came through the letterbox in a normal-ish brown envelope. Didn't have big red letters saying 'YOU ARE BUYING OVULATION STICKS, HA HA!!' which I had feared!! (don't want my neighbours knowing my business - or my postman for that matter!!
Apparently they are best done mid-morning or mid-afternoon, as the levels of the hormone take a while to be detectable (so not first wee of the day) and then taper off in the evenings... So I was doing one about 10.30am and one at around 5pm.

FlirtyThirty · 29/07/2008 10:47

Hi heverhoney - my DH doesn't know I use OV sticks. They arrived in a plain padded envelope - no reference to comapny on packaging at all. If your DH asks what's in the package...just tell him it's a surprise for a special occasion or present so you can't tell him or say something like make-up or hair gel or something that he won't bat an eyelid at...

Hi guys,

I got my OPK sticks and pregancy tests on ebay...I bought 25 pick and mix so got 8 pregnancy tests and 17 OPK sticks.

They were really cheap, I think I'm just going to buy them every month as I need them...it only cost me about £5. FF is telling me to use them from Thursday, but I'm going to start today, as I want some negatives so I can check out what my cycle is doing.

Heverhoney - can you have them delivered to work? My parcels have been very discreet!

Flirty - I like your idea of using the first response to confirm the OPK result...I might try that!!

Bonifacio - I'm having the same problem re: going out and drinking...I've been using the 'I'm driving' get out - probably not any good for you! This weekend, I'm off surfing and camping, so was planning to take some non-alcoholic beer and just try to pretend, but I don't think that's going to work. So I've decided that I'm just going to say I'm on a diet for my holiday and can't afford the empty calories in alcohol to ruin it!

Eth - Mmmmm lasagne!!

Summerbird - you're getting close to end of cycle?? Any symptoms?? When do you think your normal AF will be??

Dawn Please go for the scan. I hope you are not away for too long- i can't imagine how hard this must be for you but it might help to know you are not alone.

Summerbird Thanks for the link- hotel looks fab! I shall show my hubyy when he is home from work, and don't worry, we would go in April lol

Eth I have just finished a very tough NQT year in secondary (i trained in primary though and have had 3 inspections this yr- one being ofsted so it has been a BIG Learning curve!)

My husband has been 'too hot' for any action the last two nights he hates heat and has been having freezing cold showers and pacing the house! I cant hug him for more than 5seconds without him starting to pant at the heat! I have told him i am jumping him after work today though as he will then have plenty of time to cool down before bed time!

I am still waiting for AF though so dont think ov sticks will help- or anything else! i am just enjoying the baby talks and hopes at the mo... just hoping it doesn't take too long.. xx

crunchynutter · 29/07/2008 11:02

oh and Kalikaroo- tell them! I wouldnt be able to keep quiet and i think its nice to have the support xx

eth37 · 29/07/2008 11:15

Crunchynutter I had Ofsted in my NQT year too - it is such a steep learning curve, but you will feel so much better in September. What subject do you teach in secondary?

The make-up idea is good for OPK sticks - DH knows I use them, as initially we worked out when was 'safe' in the month . Then we moved to 'not trying not to conceive' and now we are ttc. DH doesn't know how obsessed I am with it though...!

BTW have you been checking CM? I never realised how good a guide it is to ov etc - v complex, this ttc business!!

saz007 · 29/07/2008 11:26

Hi all,

Are you cutting back on alcohol while TTC or giving up completely? I try not to drink during the week and limit it to a glass or two over the weekend. DH's mum keeps asking when she'll be a grandma (no pressure there then!!). He says that he's not going to say and she'll just have to wait (this is mainly due to ultra-competitive SIL), she turned round to him this morning and said, it'll be obvious as I will be refusing wine
