After 18m persuading DH, we are finally (v gently ) TTc no 3.
As I am now 35, am convinced my fertility days are behind me.
Anyone in a similar position and needing to share support?

I am a control freak and find it less stressful if I can plot things like my temperature
Gives me something to do the whole month

CoteDAzur · 11/07/2008 22:44

I'm a bit of a control freak, too. That is why I am deliberately not going into establishing ovulation times, recording them on an Excel spreadsheet, and making color graphs

DarrellRivers · 11/07/2008 22:55

I agree
I just can't help myself
Fertilityfriend plots the graphs for you [so addictive}
Goodnight, am turning in now, hope I don't ovulate tonight, DH out

Hi again. For what it's worth for DD we BD on day 9 and acording to my Persona I ovulated on day 15, 6 days after BD. Again, was lulled into thinking my DH had supersperm and we only had to look at each other to conceive. But here I am after 5 mths of very casual BD (no idea of when I was ov etc and no PG+. Hence now thinking I should up my game a little! :.)

CoteDAzur · 12/07/2008 16:19

Now I'm scared

luceyd · 12/07/2008 17:25

Oh please don't be scared, you may be cooking something in there now!

I personally was a bit down the first month I wasn't automatically pregnant but am far more realistic about it and now realise it was HIGHLY unusal/lucky last time. (BTW it took 2 mths with my 1st).

Going to just start focusing on OV signs etc and take it from there. May start to worry if things haven't happened in a few months as obviously time is more of an issue now for me than before.

luceyd · 12/07/2008 17:32

Oh also, re timing to help sway the odds in favour of boy/girl. I really wanted a girl 2nd time around so read the book and got a Persona. With DD it obviously worked (day 9, ov day 15). With DS day 14, presume I ov on day 15 so the theory worked for me.

SlippersAndPipe · 12/07/2008 18:10

Hi all. Feels like I joined here then ran. Sadly been poorly all this last week = no luuurving. Typically my probable fertile week so roll on next month.

Might go and have a glass of wine tonight and chill.

I have a dd, and not really thought about if I would prefer a ds or not. This will be our last, and I guess a ds would be nice for my sporty dh, but I feel I know more about girls

CoteDAzur · 12/07/2008 19:31

It's funny how these things go. For almost three years since DD's birth, another baby was the farthest thing from my mind. But several weeks ago, something clicked in my head (heart?) and all of a sudden I am obsessing

SpangleMaker · 12/07/2008 23:39

Hi everyone, hope you are all having a good weekend of BDing or symptom spotting or whatever

Cote, I did 'O' Level biology at school (that's how old I am!) but I've been amazed at how little about my cycle I actually knew. I've found 'Taking charge of your fertility' and FertilityFriend very helpful.

Well I'm a bit confused as to where I am on my cycle. My temps don't seem to rise very quickly after ov so I have been trying to carry on BDing, just in case. FertilityFriend has now decided I ov'd on Tuesday (I'd thought Wednesday). Dunno if this is right or not, but it's given me a high score, so I'll go with that

CoteDAzur · 13/07/2008 07:42

I'm symptom spotting

There were quite a few pregnant women on the beach yesterday. I point them out to DH and said "Maybe I am pregnant, too". He says "Don't be silly, of course you are not". Why?!?!

DarrellRivers · 13/07/2008 10:21

DH is like that too cote.
Welcome back slippers.
Seems like we are coming up to a bit of a 2WW or less.
So when are people due their periods?
I have 2weeks at least

OP posts:
SpangleMaker · 13/07/2008 10:39

There is no place for unbridled optimism in a man's logical mind. Ignore him and go with your instincts

This is how sad and obsessive I am: I got an even lower temp this morning, so as soon as we had done the necessary and l had left DH sleeping, I got up and logged on to Fertility Friend It has now decided I haven't yet ovulated, if this is the case it'll be the longest cycle I've had and our valiant efforts earlier in the week will have been in vain

SpangleMaker · 13/07/2008 10:45

Darrell, for me, anywhere between the 22nd and I-don't-know-when!

Had a haircut yesterday and booked in to have highlights on 25th, so something to look forward to if it doesn't work out this month.

CoteDAzur · 13/07/2008 14:31

I have little idea when I am due. Probably around the 20th. I think I will use my single pregnancy test on 18th.

DarrellRivers · 13/07/2008 14:49

Have not had temp surge yet, so fingers crossed it happens soon, then must be due around 26th or so.

OP posts:
CoteDAzur · 13/07/2008 14:58

What happens with 'temperature surge'?

(Deliberately no looking into fertilityfriend et al because if/when I do, I will be totally obsessed, I fear )

SpangleMaker · 13/07/2008 15:31

After the egg is released, the follicle starts to produce progesterone - this hormone causes a rise in body temperature. When you see a sustained temp rise, you can be pretty sure you've ovulated.

It's no good for telling you when you're about to ovulate [by the time you see the rise you're no longer fertile] but it's good for helping to predict when to expect your period, whether you did the deed at the right time etc. If your cycles are regular it's helpful for predicting when you might be fertile next cycle.

CoteDAzur · 13/07/2008 15:34

Why would you not be fertile right after ovulation? Egg lives for about 24 hours and it takes much less than that for sperm to swim to the egg. Or am I missing something? (Quite possible)

SpangleMaker · 13/07/2008 17:05

Yes, I'm sure you would be fertile right after ovulation, I read that the egg tends to live for 12-24hours. But it takes a little while for the progesterone to take effect and so by the time you read your temperature the egg's likely to be on its way out, if not already gone. Fertility Friend picks out the day before the temperature rise as the day of ovulation.

I think if you were using temping as a form of contraception you would wait to see at least a 2nd high temperature.

I don't know how long it takes for sperm to reach the egg, a couple of hours maybe? I guess even a few inches is a long way to a tiny sperm.

Lionstar · 13/07/2008 22:20

Hi ladies, been a while since I checked in - been busy . Haven't spent the entire time on my back, but DP does seem to have a permanent smile on at the moment! BTW is it only me that finds the BD term a bit 'errmm'.

Anyway, now the tedious waiting time begins - just the longest 2 weeks ever isn't it. I'm a bit of a pragmatist so am not holding out much hope of success on the first time of trying, have got some cheapo test sticks just in case though!

Fingers crossed for Cote & Spangle too, anyone else?

dinny · 13/07/2008 22:24

Good luck, everyone

I got a BFP 3 weeks ago - I'm 35 and it was one unprotected shag that did it, so there is hope for ovaries over 35, REALLY

xx

CoteDAzur · 14/07/2008 07:00

Congratulations dinny

SpangleMaker · 14/07/2008 18:01

Wahey - a positive story! Congratulations dinny

Hello again Lionstar, seems there is a few of us on the 2WW just now. You're right, it's SO tedious. I wish I knew how to distract myself but I can't!

jaype · 14/07/2008 20:23

Glad to see a positive story, I am due af any day now and am sure I can feel the evil cramping. Still, not much chance of anything positive this mnth as dp was ill at the critical time
