After 18m persuading DH, we are finally (v gently ) TTc no 3.
As I am now 35, am convinced my fertility days are behind me.
Anyone in a similar position and needing to share support?

I guess it is funny

It's just that DD was conceived so out of the blue, on 11th day on a 30 day cycle, that DH and I are under the impression that I am Myrtle the Fertile Turtle Obviously a very unrealistic assumption, especially since we are now both 37.

Ah well. Probably will come down to earth after I test on 19th. If I can wait that long.

DarrellRivers · 09/07/2008 18:09

I really hope you are right, that would be a lovely thing to happen.
Then you can tell your DH as well that he has supersperm
Fingers crossed.
I have used too many tests unfortunately over the years.
Trying to go cold turkey and not test until at least D32 , but often I just can't resist

Fingers crossed cote, we need somone on this thread to give us all hope.

I'm back, just need somewhere to vent my feelings for a few moments if that's ok? My sister is about to give birth anyday and am feeling a bit low. Just feel like its not going to happen a second time and did an opk today as don't want to waste my preseed stuff and it was negative.
Sorry you know how it is somedays when all you wish is that someone would give you a magic wand to wave and hey presto you're pg. I haven't been half what some of you have and always feel extremely selfish and ungrateful after getting things off my chest, but I know you understand. Off to mop my selfish tears up now.

DarrellRivers · 09/07/2008 22:02

flowerfairy, good luck with everything including your sister's delivery
It is rubbish sometimes isn't it.

Flowerfairy, sorry to hear you're feeling low. You're not being selfish, it's just that these feelings can be so powerful can't they? Good luck with finding the best time for your preseed.

Cote, so you have 10 whole days to hold out before testing? Do you think you'll manage it?

Well I think I have ovulated now, although my temperature hasn't gone up yet so I may try to get DH into action again tonight. He is all full of man flu and feeling sorry for himself so I may need to be extra persuasive

CoteDAzur · 10/07/2008 07:49

flowerfairy Good news is you are only 35 and obviously don't have any infertility issues (since you have a DS) so it is probably a question of time.

Now I feel really to be so flippant earlier, when others have been TTC for so long. I apologize.

DarrellRivers · 10/07/2008 09:24

No cote, don't be
We need positivity all around

Agree with Darrell we need someone to keep us optimistic!

Still no temp rise here

wondermum1 · 10/07/2008 13:41

Hi

Am new to this too, have one little boy, 8 months, miscarried few months back and now trying for another - no luck (for 3 months now) and am worried am not as fertile - am 37...

Maybe we are all worrying too much and need to chill out!!!!

wondermum1 · 10/07/2008 13:43

CoteDAzur · 10/07/2008 13:54

wondermum - You started TTC when your baby was 5 months old? You are very courageous!

wondermum1 · 10/07/2008 16:01

Not planned, an accident, although as am 37 do want to get a move on! Anyone got a short cycle? Mine is 25 or 26 days long...

DarrellRivers · 10/07/2008 17:18

i seem to ovulate D18, am D14 at the moment and no temp rise so fingers crossed for lots of activity this weekend and then ovulation.
wondermum, try www.fertilityfriend.com, very good advice on cervical mucous as predictor for ovulation.

wondermum1 · 10/07/2008 17:23

If you're ovulating day 18 - how long is your cycle? Do you always ovulate bang in the middle? I can't remember my biology lessons!!

DarrellRivers · 10/07/2008 21:01

everybody ovulates differently
i thought i ovulated d14 until i started temping and it seems i ovulate later on in my cycle as my temp rise was after D18 last month
check out fertilityfriend, it really helps out telling you how your cycle works

OP posts:
CoteDAzur · 11/07/2008 17:57

I thought everyone ovulated mid-cycle, however many days that may be.

SpangleMaker · 11/07/2008 18:38

Hello wondermum!

You don't necessarily ovulate in the middle of your cycle. The phase before ovulation can vary from month to month. The phase after ovulation (luteal phase) is generally between 10 - 16 days, and although it varies between women, for each woman it pretty much stays the same. It's possible to have a 30 day cycle but only, say, a 10 day luteal phase - in which case ovulation would be on day 20 rather than day 15 (mid cycle).

CoteDAzur · 11/07/2008 19:36

Spangle - All I know about cycle/ovulation/sperm/ovule etc is what I learned in school. So...

Do you know how long it takes for sperm to swim to the ovule?

DarrellRivers · 11/07/2008 20:11

cote, check out www.fertilityfriend.com
It is really helpful
Spem live average 2 days , but can live up to 4 days in optimum conditions
I had always thought that you ovulated 14 days before your period, but hadn't realised your luteal phase can be shorter than this.
It makes sense to me, as i spent months TTC and having sex D10-14, and the times i fell pregnant were when we had sex much later on in my cycle.I did my temp charting last month, and it seemed I ovulated D18 which was
I shall see what happens this month

OP posts:
CoteDAzur · 11/07/2008 20:35

My question was rather "How long does it take for sperm to swim from where it is deposited to where it finds and fertilizes the ovule?"

I ask this because I am wondering how likely it is to have conceived with a BD after ovulation - if it takes more than a day, than I am guessing that by the time sperm gets there, ovule will no longer be viable.

DarrellRivers · 11/07/2008 22:09

It is better if the sperm are there waiting for the egg as it is ovulated.
so BD before ovulation or at the latest the day of ovulation.
Sorry, I speed read, so didn't read your question properly.
And eggs don't last nearly as long as sperm, only 24 hours or so

OP posts:
CoteDAzur · 11/07/2008 22:21

Better, how?

Sorry, too many questions, I know. I did Google this but found nothing.

The spoilt brats that we are (me and DH), we deliberately BD'ed after ovulation (I think, not that I really found out when ovulation was) to maximise our chances for a boy rather than just get a BFP.

DarrellRivers · 11/07/2008 22:26

OK, I'm not sure how long it takes the sperm to get to the egg, but I think you have 24 hours after ovulation for the sperm to get to the egg.
But on the probability of the sperm lastig longer than the egg, I think that would be why it would be 'better' for the sperm to be there first.
And yes, if you are going by that method, the male sperm are quicker and should reach the egg first.
Do you know when you ovulated then?

DarrellRivers · 11/07/2008 22:26

Sorry, you don't know, must read whole post {slapped wrists]
