After 18m persuading DH, we are finally (v gently ) TTc no 3.
As I am now 35, am convinced my fertility days are behind me.
Anyone in a similar position and needing to share support?

ClairePO · 12/08/2008 10:01

Darrel how on earth did they get the urine sample back up to body temp?

Jools1 · 12/08/2008 10:08

I had massively aching boobs and severe bloating from 2DPO last month, which convinced me I was PG ! I have the same this month, but as last time was a CP, I don't know if it was a red herring, or just my evil cycle getting more evil !

Attempting not to obsess and just forget about it till after Aug 20th - fat chance !!

ClairePO · 12/08/2008 10:10

How many DPO are you now Jools?

Jools1 · 12/08/2008 10:16

Only 5 DPO - time is going soooooooo slowly !

SpangleMaker · 12/08/2008 10:16

Darrell - I'm wondering the same thing as ClairePO!

ClairePO - I'm on my 5th cycle of temping, am finding it helpful but am worried I read too much into the figures. The days before AF I'm willing it to be high, if it's low it's like seeing a BFN. So I may follow your example and give it up for a bit after a couple more cycles, much less stressful I think.

Jools1 · 12/08/2008 10:20

Symptom spotting alert - last couple of nights, I've been really really too warm at night - even with windows open. DH couldn't sleep last night so went in spare room - came back in at around 6am and couldn't believe how warm I seemed (he was cold)- and I'm not ill !!

I guess I need to hope the uncomfortably warm feeling continues ?? Whilst continuing not to obsess and symptom spot

beanieb · 12/08/2008 10:23

Thank you all for the welcome.

My OH has had his sperm tests back and they are 'satisfactory' I hate the way it sounds like an OK school report. Why can't they say 'fantastic' or 'superb'? Satisfactory is ok though?

So now the focus is back on me. I guess I go back to the doctor now? I have had a scan, blood tests, am ovulating for sure etc. So do I need to push for more invasive tests?

I am trying not to freak out but 10 months on I am wondering if it will ever happen for us now

SpangleMaker · 12/08/2008 10:48

beanieb, good news about your OH's test results. 'Satisfactory' is probably the best result they give (guess they could say 'athletic' 'olympian' but probably not that imaginative in a path lab?)

Yes I think you should go back to your doctor to see if there's anything else that needs to be checked out. Also, are there any lifestyle changes you think you could make that might help - either for physical health or to ease stress?

I'm not sure if there has been any research that demonstrates a relationship between stress and fertility but I'm convinced there is a link.

As I said I haven't been to the docs myself yet but I'm trying to find good ways to deal with the stress, for my own sanity as much as anything else. DH says 'just forget about it' - yeah, right!

beanieb · 12/08/2008 11:19

Well, my mum is badgering me to have reflexology so I think I will give it a go now. It's all just so expensive

summerbird · 12/08/2008 12:17

hi everyone - am having a manically busy morning but just wanted to bob in to say hi!

beanib my DH would be offended too if his wrigglers were referred to as just 'satisfactory'! i am sure that is sufficient for medical purposes but do they not realise our boys have feelings !!!

mslucy · 12/08/2008 12:27

satisfactory is good! be thankful for satisfactory.

we had a few issues in this dept when ttc no2 - not helped by me being older (37, 38 tomorrow!)

I had ds1 aged 34 - those few years obv made a difference.

but a few months off the drink and a few hot dates with the turkey baster did the biz and we're expecting another one in feb 09.

I found it so much harder to conceive the second time round - yes I was older, but also because I was trying to hold down a full time job in a very stressful industry and be a good mum.

Then there was the added stress of seeing everyone I know (even oldies like me) popping them out left right and centre.

I quit the long hours at the end of last year and doubt I would be where I am now if I hadn't.

I think there is a MAJOR relationship between stress and "unexplained infertilty".

Also alcohol, fags and coffee. All the pumpkin seeds in the world won't do any good if you are caning it on the booze.

If dh can stay off the booze for nine months then ANYONE can.

Lionstar · 12/08/2008 12:38

Yay for those BFPs

I've still got more than a weeks wait before testing realistically, but find my mind still keeps wandering to the strips I have upstairs - madness I know, I should follows DRs tips really! Have also signed up for the freebie Clearblue that Mumsnet is giving away - has everyone else seen that thread?

Oh and the symptom spotting, don't think I've ever noticed so many aches and pains as I've had in the past week or so!

beanieb · 12/08/2008 13:33

ok - so should I cut out alcohol as much as I can - or completely ?

DarrellRivers · 12/08/2008 13:40

oh yes, signed up for my free test
yippee

summerbird · 12/08/2008 13:50

drink guinness beanib mmmm guinness!

but seriously, i think alcohol in moderation is fine, not summerbird style with the girls on her camping jaunt this weekend!!

mslucy · 12/08/2008 14:14

depends whether you're the sort of person who can stick to a glass or two every few days or whether you're the type who guzzles the whole bottle.

only you know that!

personally I think you're better off without the booze, but if it would make you depressed, then the odd glass won't hurt.

ClairePO · 12/08/2008 14:19

I hadn't seen the thing about the free test but have found it now, thanks for the nod!

beanieb · 12/08/2008 14:20

thanks all - I am a bit 'gotta finish the bottle' - I'll cut it down to a glass or two occassionally! It's mostly wine!

summerbird · 12/08/2008 14:47

yeah i tend to finish the bottle too, my mum brought me up to always finish everything on my plate so is her fault.........

ClairePO · 12/08/2008 15:20

I'm the same. I have cut down and also started at WeightWatchers again as I know being overweight won't help.

SpangleMaker · 12/08/2008 15:47

I am pretty much cutting out in the 2ww and cutting back in the other 2 weeks, ie smallish glass most nights. Don't really get lashed these days, apart from at my Dad's when he gets the liqueurs out

Need to give DH a bit more encouragement though. We eat pretty healthily most nights, I eat (mostly) healthily in the day too but am a bit at what DH eats. Am going to have to sort him out.

sfxmum · 12/08/2008 22:00

hello signed up for the free test too
was ovulating but think we might have missed our best opportunity as there is so much going on we are both tired

oh well we shall see

about drink I seldom do but this week already had 2 glasses of wine, most unusual these days but I don't really think it is a big deal

mslucy · 13/08/2008 00:01

booze is the real killer for blokes if there are sperm issues.

it's surprising how sensitive the little fellas are!

According to my consultant, a booze binge can set them back about 3 months - a binge is defined as something like 5 pints.

Obv this doesn't matter if you have tons of swimmers and are 19 but if there are any problems it can be a real problem.

mslucy · 13/08/2008 00:02

just wrote "problem" twice.
My command of English is not usually this poor.

must go to bed

SpangleMaker · 13/08/2008 09:13

Thanks for the advice MsLucy, you've opened my eyes!

Fortunately DH is not of the binge drinking persuasion. If there's danger for us it's the potential for slipping into the category they are currently making such a fuss about, the middle class couple-of-glasses-of-posh-plonk-with-dinner variety of drinker.

We have cut back since TTC. Actually if there is a benefit in TTC for ages it's that I'm much more aware of what I'm eating/drinking.
