TTC for first baby thread !

Hello - I thought I’d start a TTC thread specifically for those of us who are trying for our first babies. I’ve joined other threads before but find it difficult connecting to others who may already have babies as I think ttc for your first is a whole other ball game as no other children and first time.

Any others? 🩷

Me! I've been taking pre-natal vitamins for a few months now and we will start trying next cycle. I am very apprehensive!

cobalt123 · 22/10/2025 18:13

I’m here for it! First month trying and currently supposedly 5dpo according to natural cycles app and ewcm. I’ve not been doing any bbt monitoring or LH testing. Just going off a regular cycle. Trying and failing to keep my head out of the obsessive space of the tww 🤣. Have you been trying for long?

PeonyPatch · 22/10/2025 18:21

Hi @cobalt123 @MrsBeesBakedBeans nice to meet you both! 🤍

I think it’s good not to be too obsessive about it. Sounds like you’re both at the start of your journeys. We have been ttc for about 8 months now. I do have PCOS however so it’s tricky to know when I ovulate :( I am waiting for AF to arrive which should be today or tomorrow. I did do a test today but it was a BFN. My DH is going for a semen analysis next week and we’ll probs go from there in terms of getting further fertility support from the NHS. In the mean time, just gonna keep trying and not be obsessive about it :)

me! I’ve been in a few other threads but feel the same as you or they’ve died down!

TTC my first, my husband does have a 11 year old. we’ve been trying for a year now 🥹 I got diagnosed with PCOS and no ovulation a few months ago and my husband has low morphology following tests, so we are just waiting for our referral to fertility.

how’s everyone else in the journey? X

Hi @Em3009 nice to have you here and a fellow PCOS’er 👋 I hope you’re doing okay. How did you come to find out re no ovulation, were you testing?

6dpo today and it’s dragging sooo much. First time tv and as I’m 39 I reeeally need to have a reality check that it’s not going to be a straight forward journey and stop being so hopeful for this cycle 🙄

cobalt123 · 23/10/2025 06:45

@PeonyPatchhow are you getting on a couple of days ahead of me?

MissBxx · 23/10/2025 08:25

Hey! It's my first time too, finally came off the pill on 25 September after 7 years of taking it. I have no idea what to expect timewise on anything really. I had a withdrawal bleed from 30th Sept-4th Oct and nothing since not sure yet if my periods will come back or not so I'm trying to just stay neutral about it all for the time being. Even though deep down I can't stop overthinking everything it almost feels like I'm trying to symptom spot when I know realistically I have such a low chance of getting a positive so soon. I have been taking a boots folic acid and vit D supplement since I stopped taking the pill. I have also had 2 loses whilst on the pill which were lovely surprises but ended so sadly.
Trying not to get my hopes up, just excited to see how it goes. 💗xx

Aliceinapallace · 23/10/2025 09:59

It's my first time too! We're going to start trying in this cycle and I'm so excited but also really nervous!
I haven't been in this space for long but the acronyms and lingo are getting me all muddled! Seems like theres one for everything!!

Amen 😂 I have to google all the abbreviations!!

Started trying earlier this month but not to be and now onto the second cycle. I was disappointed but tried to remind myself it doesn’t happen that quickly in reality. We also only managed a few times as I was away for work so, hoping if I do some ovulation tests and track a bit better, we’ll have luck this month.

Isn’t it funny how you spend so long desperately panicking and trying not to get pregnant the when you want to it’s not as simple as you think 🙄

Em3009 · 23/10/2025 10:46

@PeonyPatch i was LH testing but never really got peak, I also apprently don’t have a cycle really, my last AF had to be bought on with progesterone that my gp prescribed! It’s abit of a shock isn’t it?

@cobalt123 it only takes one though! When will you start testing?

@Aliceinapallace soo much lingo 🤣🙈

cobalt123 · 23/10/2025 12:05

@Em3009im hoping to wait till the day after AF is due. Which will be a week on Saturday. We’ve got a wine tasting thing going on that evening so I’ll want to know for sure by then so I can stay off the wine if it’s a BFP. Will see if I actually manage to hold off though. I’m just dreading the disappointment

Still waiting for AF but hasn’t arrived yet 😳 I took a test yesterday but it was BFN. I’ll wait until weekend and maybe take another one.

So many abbreviations! They confused me at first too, but starting to pick them up.

I am v confused about my cycles. They average at 32 days. I take metformin to keep them regular due to PCOS. I am tempted to start ovulation testing again but it started to get on my nerves a bit as I felt it was quite regimental and I’m trying to be relaxed and enjoy the process, lol. Does anyone else feel similar? X

I'm trying to get my head around the acronyms. Don't know what Dino means.

My cycle days vary and have been getting shorter lately so I have a doctor's appointment for next week. I suspect I need to regulate my stress levels a bit more. I always come on early when stressed. Easier said than done though in fixing that.

I've tracked my last two cycles and get a peak for LH on CD14. I'm nervous about my short Luteal phase especially when I'm on a shorter cycle month.

I better get to the gym...

PeonyPatch · 23/10/2025 18:45

Ahh, AF has arrived so that’s me out this cycle. Somewhat relieved tho as I can now focus on trying again. We popped to boots and have stocked up on ovulation sticks (boots own branded ones) and pregnancy tests for the future.

what does dino mean @MrsBeesBakedBeans ans hope you made it to the gym!

Still no idea re: Dino!

No gym today, up to my eyeballs in housework but will go Saturday (hopefully)

Hello! Can I join? Would be lovely to have some other people who are experiencing this first time to go through as I feel I have so many questions/weird worries that I wouldn’t if I’d been there and done it.

had a trial run two months ago and ovulated weeks late, either due to getting a uti as soon as we started trying or starting to take the proceive vitamins. Stopped taking vitamins, cycle back to usual 30 days last month. Started using lh strips this month to catch ovulation properly so I wasn’t caught out again, ovulated about 15 days into cycle (although lh test negative am, positive pm, negative again by next morning), and now I’m 12dpo and got a positive about 9dpo. My sister had a number of miscarriages though so I’m taking it a day at a time.

i was sure I was out this cycle as I had no symptoms, I was sure I’d feel sore boobs/backache/tired if it happened but no, just some cramping that feels exactly like pms cramping and then being super hungry. if it manages to stick, would be lovely to continue the group on with any of you getting positives this month too. 🙂

Of course you can 💕

Welcome!

I wanted to create a safe and supportive space for new timers - which I think can bring with it unique concerns, worries and questions! Never feel bad for asking a silly Q as I feel we can all learn something from it and we’re probably all wondering the same thing!

I have been on some of the other ttc threads but I found myself feeling a bit triggered by other women who are ttc for their 4th, even 5th child and I don’t even have 1!

OP posts:
Em3009 · 24/10/2025 04:47

@cobalt123 ah you are so good if you manage to hold off testing until then! 🙈

@PeonyPatch how long have you been on metformin for?

from other threads I’m pretty sure some women call themselves dino when TTC after a certain age! But couldn’t tell you what that is!

@Andrasa oh congratulations! 🥹 hoping for a sticky baby for you x

Utardelis · 24/10/2025 14:56

Hi everyone hoping to join 🙏
First pregnancy very sadly ended in a MMC two months ago so just getting back into the TTC headspace

Brunch123 · 24/10/2025 23:10

Currently 7 dpo on 7th cycle.
Everyone around me seems to be pregnant or getting pregnant at the moment!
Keeping fingers crossed this is the cycle for us! X

cobalt123 · 25/10/2025 07:12

8dpo for me today and I’m constantly symptom spotting. Felt like I was mildly nauseous yesterday but on googling apparently it would be too early for nausea as would be more like 4-6 weeks. 🙄 also boobs seem slightly bigger but I suppose that’s probably just luteal phase 🙄

They count the start date form first day of your last cycle, so you’re probably three and a bit weeks. 🙂 definitely could be symptoms, although if there’s enough to be causing symptoms there’s enough to turn a test positive.

summertime94 · 25/10/2025 14:06

Hello, I'm on my 5th cycle now and had one chemical previously. Just going into the TWW now which always seems to last ages!

cobalt123 · 25/10/2025 14:30

@Andrasa yeh I guess that’s probably right that if you have real symptoms you should also get a positive test. I can’t bring myself to test early though in case of the double disappointment of having an early negative but then still holding out hopes for them only to be dashed again several days later. Gargh. New to this and I’m starting to realise just how much it can take over your life thinking of little else! 🥴
