TTC for first baby thread !

Hello - I thought I’d start a TTC thread specifically for those of us who are trying for our first babies. I’ve joined other threads before but find it difficult connecting to others who may already have babies as I think ttc for your first is a whole other ball game as no other children and first time.

Any others? 🩷

@PeonyPatch good luck this month!
I do find getting the job done every 2 days quite hard work myself when trying to balance work and life stress but needs must!!

Brunch123 · 06/11/2025 00:33

@PeonyPatch are you using ovulation sticks ?

@PeonyPatch are you using ovulation sticks ?

Morning! I have in the past used ovulation sticks but I haven’t been in recent cycles just because I cannot be bothered with the faff. I have been tracking my cycles on an app on my phone and it predicts my fertile window so I’m basing it on that, and we are dtd a couple days before and planning to do it over the two weeks to include that fertile window if that makes sense.
this is something new we are trying for the first time this cycle! However, after Christmas period, I might start using ovulation sticks again in the new year.

how about you? Xx

@PeonyPatch yes I do use them, mostly just because I have them! I have done a couple of cycles where I haven’t bothered.
i don’t think it makes much difference though as we try to dtd every 2 days during my fertile week so we would catch it anyway - I’m pretty regular!
Hopefully you get a positive and don’t have to think about after Christmas!

Ah sounds like we have a similar approach then. Best of luck to you too. Be a lovely Christmas surprise hey! 🤞🏽 xx

Hi all, I've just jumped on as trying not to get my hopes up too much. I've been ttc for 20 months but cycle went a bit absent in Jan. After various tests ive been diagnosed with PCOS, ?if I've not been ovulating regularly at all despite regular periods although slightly long cycle. My partner went for tests last tuesday so awaiting results of those. I'm trying not to get too obsessive with it all as I know it'll increase my stress so much. Was expecting period to arrive yday but have been having some mild cramps and light brown discharge when wiping (sorry for tmi) since sunday - not enough to need a pad. Today is day 34 of cycle and for last 6 months cycles have been consistently 31-32 days.I'm so worried about taking a test but I know its the only way. Might see if I can hold off to the weekend.Wishing positivity for everyone x

Do you take anything to regulate your cycles? I take metformin for my PCOS. My cycles are about 30-32 days.

No, not yet, noone has offered anything and the earliest infertility appt I could get was end of Feb.

Welcome! Do you usually have symptoms like that, or could the nausea be linked to something else? It would be very unlikely to experience nausea that early on I think! But when do you plan to test? Wishing you luck on your ttc journey x

I sometimes feel a bit queasy like travel sickness or really terrible smells. This has been like wet mouth nausea though iykwim? It’s been on and off for 3 days now but I haven’t become ill.

I’ve got 10 days until my period’s due so I’m going to test in maybe a week’s time with an early pregnancy test.

Good luck with your plan to try every 2 days around your window, I think we might need to try that next!

@thismonthsfad how are you doing with your tww? I'm about 5dpo now and going a bit nuts - time seems to be moving at a glacial pace. I have a busy weekend and I'm travelling for work next week so I'm hoping that time will speed up a bit and I'll be distracted from TTC.

I’m 1DPO and already counting down!! And only on cycle 2…I’m a little impatient by nature 🤣

fingers crossed for you!

Hi @GladDenimGoose I am doing so much better at 9DPO now.. I totally understand where you're coming from because I felt like that a few days ago but I think as I am approaching 10DPO where it kind of might start getting interesting I am relaxing a lot lol... I don't know if that makes sense at all.. I had thoughts today about holding off testing until Weds when AF is due. I will probably still test on Sunday (11DPO).

I feel different this cycle, like I am already prepared for a BFN because I don't think we DTD early enough.. DTD on O day only.. but this is the first cycle we DTD on actual O day so who knows haha!

How are you feeling today? Hopefully the weekend and next week will go quickly for you, it helps when there's a distraction :)

GladDenimGoose · 07/11/2025 16:04

I was kinda like that last cycle - it's like the closer you get to AF the more it feels like reality has chosen it's path so there's nothing you can do and what will be will be. At 5 dpo I feel like it's Schrödinger's pregnancy and I'm just willing my body to put the pieces together and make it happen - does that make any sense? @jw97 the impatience is real 😂

If you're trying to time dtd then I'd say doing it only on O day gives you as good a chance as any. I have everything crossed for you!

Hi, hope it's ok to join here. I've been on the monthly TTC threads but I agree it's nice to be on one where you're all trying for baby No 1. I'm early 30s, TTC for 4 cycles now, had a chemical in our first month of trying but since then no luck. Recently diagnosed with PCOS so that's thrown a slight spanner in the works. Recently started LH testing - does anyone else on here do this? I'm not sure if I'm just doing it wrong but so far my readings are so low (and I've read that with PCOS if anything they should be high), feel like ovulation is only a few days away though. Trying to stay sane and not obsess but I'm that personality type where once I've decided on something I'm then focused on it. Poor DH wants to just see what happens and think he's getting a bit sick of me mentioning about timings and ovulation days! Hoping everyone is doing ok!

Welcome ☺️ I’m on cycle 2 and started using LH tests this month. They only started getting darker around 3 days before ovulation, then really dark for 1-2 days and then super light again! I’m not sure how PCOS can affect it, though.
I’m 4dpo and already feeling so impatient!! 😫

Hello @SleepySkyRat welcome!
a fellow PCOS’er here… forgive me but how do you LH test? Is this the same or different to ovulation sticks?

I have just downloaded the Premom app (the basic, free version currently) and I’m starting to do ovulation sticks again but I didn’t do it daily this cycle after AF so I think I’ll start again properly next month. We have DTD a lot more this month compared to other cycles, so I’m hopeful… fingers crossed 🤞🏽

I had a GP appt today and they’ve made a referral for us to the fertility clinic 🩷

hope everyone is doing ok!

SleepySkyRat · 10/11/2025 19:02

@PeonyPatch I am doing the exact same thing- I downloaded the Premom app and am using their ovulation tests which test LH levels. Hoping to see an increase in the line darkness soon. We’re also getting referred by my GP for fertility, just really hoping we won’t end up needing the appt!

HopefulK · 11/11/2025 10:57

Hi, can I join?!

Been ttc for 14/15 cycles (lost track!). Had initial tests at the 1 year mark, all fine for me, low morphology (3%) for DH but everything else good and very high count so GP wasn’t too concerned. Waiting for fertility appointment end of March. Never had a hint of a bfp in that time 😔. I’m 33, DH 31. Find it quite isolating.

Em3009 · 11/11/2025 12:12

Hope you are all well 🩷 haven’t posted in a while as was feeling very down about this whole process but our referral has finally gone through from the gp so feeling abit more myself now 😊

I find this journey is very up and down so do take care of yourself 🤍 I go through waves thinking it will never happen!

Hello and welcome 👋 Well it’s good you have a fertility appointment booked in, hopefully they can offer some more answers or support. I’m sure it will fly by. March isn’t too far away now.
Are you ovulation testing?
