Anyone else in the early stages of their TTC journey for baby #1?

Hi everyone,

We’re early into our TTC journey and are currently on cycle number 2 for our first baby. I’ve also never been pregnant before.

I’m currently on day 14 of my cycle but my cycles are around 25-27 days on average, so my Flo app predicted I’d ovulate on day 12 based off symptoms of ovulation from previous months which have been quite consistent. We dtd on day 7,8,10 and 11 and haven’t been able to do it again since due to clashing work schedules, mega long days and then being exhausted in our free time as a result, so I have no idea if we’ve done enough this cycle.

Either way, it would be nice to chat to others in the same boat who are also only just starting their TTC journey! :) I told myself this cycle I wouldn’t count down the days or symptom spot like I did last cycle, but it’s hard not to already!

Hello! @Ivylilac I am also TTC for no1 ! :) This is first month actually trying and I did try to track my ovulation but found it a bit overwhelming, so we just made sure we DTD every other day over the period of the week so we shall see what happens :) I am currently 5DPO - I am trying not to symptom spot but failing massively! Would be great to chat more as we go through this!

Ivylilac · 24/03/2025 13:35

Hi @BeKeenPeachLemur!

So exciting isn’t it!! I know, I’ve said to myself I’m going to give it a few months and if we’re not successful then I’ll start tracking my ovulation properly, otherwise I think I’m just going to be completely consumed with it all.

I’m probably 3DPO if we’re going with day 12 as my ovulation date, but we also dtd again yesterday on day 14, so hopefully if I ovulated a little later then we covered that basis too. I feel like from logging my EWCM though that finished a few days ago, so day 12 does seem believable.

Lovely to have someone else to chat to on this journey :) we haven’t told any of our friends or family yet that we’ve started trying as we wanted it to be a surprise, but it means I’m having to keep my excitement to myself haha.

@Ivylilac Ahh it is so exciting ! Were the same, we haven't told anyone - I don't think we will either as I think it would invite questions which I really wouldn't want the pressure of if you know what I mean! :)

Yeh tracking is a bit consuming, and I am not sure if I have got it right at all but I will see how we go. We dtd the the day pre ovulation and day of when I think I ovulated and a couple of times before in the week leading up so I hope we have covered our bases 😅I find it hard to track with EWCM cause does it just suddenly stop after ovulation, I never know 😂

So nice to have someone in the same boat as me, it is so exciting but I feel like i am going to be so anxious during this time too haha

Ivylilac · 24/03/2025 14:00

@BeKeenPeachLemur I totally get that. We’ve got a lot of people around us who have got pregnant on cycle 1 or 2 of trying, so I don’t think they appreciate how long it can take and I just didn’t want that added pressure if it ends up taking us months and months to get there, with everyone keep asking how it’s all going.

Oh neither I haven’t got a clue 😂 I feel so naive on a lot of things, so we’re just doing the same; dtd in the week leading up to it and try and do so the day before ovulation and the day of. Although this cycle we didn’t manage to do it on the day of ovulation due to a mismatched work schedule. But hopefully the night before is enough! We’ll just see what happens for the next few months and hopefully our approach works!

Yeah I’m with you, it’s the fear that you’re doing something wrong, or have missed a trick in some way. I’ve tried to relax more this cycle though and just go with the flow to see what happens. Otherwise I fear I’ll think about nothing else and won’t enjoy the process!

BeKeenPeachLemur · 24/03/2025 14:07

@Ivylilac Yep we are the same, I have friends who have even conceived on birth control like SUPRISE! and I am just anxious it most likely will take longer for us - I have no idea why I think that, maybe it is cause I have just read so many posts about it taking ages so I just assume it will... 😅

Haha I also feel so naive, I want it to be exciting and not get caught up in everything but I know what I am like, I will just become obsessed which isn't healthy! I even searched up 5dpo symptoms in tiktok earlier 😂

Keep me updated with how you get on! sending you lots of baby dust! xxx

Ivylilac · 24/03/2025 14:18

@BeKeenPeachLemur this is like reading my own train of thoughts 😂 I’m exactly the same! I’ve convinced myself it’ll take a year minimum and am mentally preparing myself for that even though I have no reason at the moment to think that haha.

Yep exactly the same! Last month I was watching so many videos on what to expect and googling any possible early symptoms. I’ve resisted so far but give me another week and I’m sure I’ll be frantically googling 😂

Yes definitely, keep me updated too! Lots of baby dust being sent your way xxx

Hi, I am also in a similar place. Just on cycle 1, and as I had the coil removed earlier this month I am so unsure of any timings. Don't really want to discuss with anyone in real life as it feels like so much pressure, also don't have that kind of relationship with anyone that I would feel comfortable talking about it I guess?

My husband is 100% on board, but very ADHD so always has a lot on his mind. I already feel like I am the one bringing up timings etc (we have been talking about it for a while as I had to get the appointment to get the coil removed). It's silly but I feel like I am nagging him about sex, haha. Doesn't help that I am a bit of a prude, we can usually talk about literally anything, but this side of things takes so much effort for me...😅

Ivylilac · 24/03/2025 19:05

Hi @wildbilberry, welcome!

Yeah I know what you mean, I felt a bit like I was planning sex all of last week which felt very unnatural and forced. I don’t know how to get around that though if you’re TTC!

OP posts:
BeKeenPeachLemur · 27/03/2025 21:01

Hi @Ivylilac how are you getting on?? ☺️

@wildbilberry welcome!! How did you find your body adjusting after the coil? I had mine removed in November and I’m still trying to figure out my cycle!

Ivylilac · 27/03/2025 21:42

@BeKeenPeachLemur Hellooo ☺️ I’m doing ok thank you, desperately trying not to symptom spot but it’s so hard because I haven’t had much to go on, so any time I get the slightest feeling of anything I’m immediately analysing it 😂 how are you doing?

OP posts:
BeKeenPeachLemur · 28/03/2025 08:09

@Ivylilac ahh I’m exactly the same, I’ve been having cramping and headaches, but I just feel like I can never remember is this is my usual AF symptoms or if this is different 😂 I need to get better at logging symptoms so each month I can check myself and be like no this is normal 😂

how many DPO are you now? X

Ivylilac · 28/03/2025 08:54

@BeKeenPeachLemur I know I’m tracking literally everything on Flo so if it’s not successful this month, I won’t keep getting my hopes up in future months! I’ve also had a bit of cramping (nothing extreme though, just little twinges here and there for a couple of days) and headaches. Last night I was also convinced I could smell electrical burning, so I unplugged this lamp we’d had on for a while and it slowly went after that, but my partner couldn’t smell it at all, so of course I then got my hopes up again thinking my sense of smell is now heightening 😂

I think I’m 7DPO now, if we’re going with Flo’s prediction. What about you? X

OP posts:
BeKeenPeachLemur · 28/03/2025 09:03

@Ivylilac yeh I’m the same I’m trying to remember to track 😂 ahh bless you it’s so difficult isn’t it! I was eating dinner last night and felt like sick half way through but I think it was just my boyfriends cooking 🤣🤣 I’m 8DPO according to Premom and I did give in a test this morning but it was BFN obviously but I know it’s defo too early but it’s hard not to hyper focus on it….

Wiennetta · 28/03/2025 09:05

Hey everyone I’m also TTC #1 and started last month. I got my period today so now thinking about next month. Hope you’re all doing ok!

Ivylilac · 28/03/2025 09:13

@BeKeenPeachLemur I know, last month we gave in and tested three days early and it was negative, but I said this month I wouldn’t do that. I’m not sure if I’ll stick to that though 😂 I literally never thought I’d be like this when we started trying! I’ve always told myself I’d be relaxed and if we couldn’t have kids and we’d just find other ways to fulfil our lives. Yet here I am on cycle number 2 obsessing over the smell of a lamp 😂😂

OP posts:
BeKeenPeachLemur · 28/03/2025 09:17

Welcome @Wiennetta sorry about AF coming! Fingers crossed for next month!

@Ivylilac I know it is so tough not testing, I woke up this morning like 1 test won't hurt, and of course it has only just stressed me out more haha. I am the same, we were just like if it happens it happens but now i am obsessing which is so unhealthy haha

Ivylilac · 28/03/2025 09:19

Hi @Wiennetta! Welcome ☺️ sorry to hear AF arrived, but sending you lots of baby dust for cycle #2! Are you planning on doing anything different this cycle? I’ve decided if this cycle isn’t successful, I’ll start looking into ovulation tests for next cycle x

OP posts:
Ivylilac · 28/03/2025 09:23

@BeKeenPeachLemur I know it’s so tough. Don’t get disheartened yet though, it’s still early and still a chance it will turn positive in a few days! How long are your cycles typically?

OP posts:
BeKeenPeachLemur · 28/03/2025 11:18

@Ivylilac fingers crossed! So my cycles vary between 25-28 days I came off the coil in November so since then it has varied between that, lucky it became pretty regular straight away and I didn’t have to adjust a while which is good :)

Ivylilac · 28/03/2025 11:52

@BeKeenPeachLemur yeah mine are the same! That’s so good it went back to normal quickly. Really hoping we all get a BFP!! X

OP posts:
BeKeenPeachLemur · 28/03/2025 11:53

@Ivylilac Ahhhhh so do i !! keep us updated and big fingers crossed xx

BeKeenPeachLemur · 31/03/2025 10:57

So I think I got a v faint positive yesterday at 10DPO and then you can see the lines today! Praying these get darker of the next few weeks! 🥹

Hi, sorry to jump on but I relate so much to all these messages!!
We’re on our first cycle of TTC but I don’t think it’s happened at all this month. I was using the ClearBlue Advanced and never got a static smiley…just the flashing one (which once that has shown, it will literally show when testing with water). I’ve then read those tests aren’t the best and the Premom OPK ones are better. It’s all just a bit of minefield.
I was a week late this cycle due to a crazy stressful week I think. So I’ve actually no idea when my peak will be this month, or if I’ve missed it. I’m treating this cycle as bit of learning etc., we’ve DTD through the week estimated on the apps. So will just have to see.
I also had endo removed this time last year so I’m conscious that may work against me too!

@BeKeenPeachLemur congratulations!! 🫶🏻

Ivylilac · 01/04/2025 20:12

Hi @SilverDrive! Welcome to the thread ☺️ I know it’s an absolute minefield isn’t it!! Fertility friendly lubes, ovulation testing, not knowing which pregnancy tests to use, how early to test, potential symptoms… I’m already becoming obsessed with it all! My period is due on Saturday and I tested this morning using one of the early detection clearblue tests and it came back negative, so I have no idea if it’s a false negative and if I’m still in the game or not for this cycle. I have a feeling it’s accurate though and it was just me overthinking the symptoms again like last month, so I’m expecting to go into cycle 3 on Saturday. Which app are you using? Yeah I think that’s a good mindset, we’re treating it all as a learning curve too, as I’m sure there are probably things we’re missing/doing wrong!
