Anyone else in the early stages of their TTC journey for baby #1?

Hi everyone,

We’re early into our TTC journey and are currently on cycle number 2 for our first baby. I’ve also never been pregnant before.

I’m currently on day 14 of my cycle but my cycles are around 25-27 days on average, so my Flo app predicted I’d ovulate on day 12 based off symptoms of ovulation from previous months which have been quite consistent. We dtd on day 7,8,10 and 11 and haven’t been able to do it again since due to clashing work schedules, mega long days and then being exhausted in our free time as a result, so I have no idea if we’ve done enough this cycle.

Either way, it would be nice to chat to others in the same boat who are also only just starting their TTC journey! :) I told myself this cycle I wouldn’t count down the days or symptom spot like I did last cycle, but it’s hard not to already!

@Wiennetta I’m the same, my cycles are around 26-28 days usually, so I’ve also been predicted on apps that I ovulate between day 12-14 on average. I think I’ll start on day 8 this cycle just to see if I do ovulate earlier, as I tend to get EWCM from day 8 onwards, so I might even ovulate earlier than day 12!

Each cycle I learn something new! 🤭😅 why is to so hard work lol

@Wiennetta that’s interesting! So the second cycle you skipped the flashing smiley and went straight to peak!? Did you stop testing then after CD12?
My cycles vary by a couple of days between last 3 cycles 29 days, 27 days, 33 days.

I think il just break the bank and order more to get to known my Ov days more! x

Yes straight to peak. Not sure what it means/if it means anything but I assumed I ovulated the day after that. I wasn’t planning on testing after that (I don’t think you can test for 48 hours after a static). But I only had one test in the pack left so I actually tested this morning just to check and it was back to a negative which makes sense.

Will probably buy then again for next cycle as I’m just getting used to them.

Yeah definitely worth testing early then!! I’m not sure if I’ll continue using them if it takes me a while to get pregnant but I think even just the last couple of months have been useful to get to know my cycle. It might be that I don’t feel I need them after a few cycles. Good luck with them! I actually needed up spoiling a couple of tests - 100% user error/me not following instructions. But my excuse was I was testing first thing so not fully awake haha. So next month I think I’ll pee in a cup so I can retest if needed more easily. So just FYI although you might be better at following instructions than me!

It’s a minefield isn’t it 😂 I feel like I’m constantly finding out something new on this journey!

@Wiennetta yeah I’m not sure if I can justify the expense of buying these monthly to be honest, but I’m hoping it’ll give me a rough idea of when I do ovulate for this cycle and then I’ll maybe use a different method for cycle 4 if it gets to that. I feel like my body definitely gives me indications that I’m ovulating, but I just want to see if I’m right in my predictions really!

Haha I’m terrible at instructions so that’s useful to know!!

Slightly prematurely, can I join the thread?

Not quite trying yet as we’re getting married at the beginning of June, but 31, came off the pill in December and have tracked periods since using the Premom and Flo apps, now I’m starting to properly test for ovulation to get a sense of when it is vs the algorithm. If the app predictions are correct I’ll be ovulating the week after the wedding 🤞🏻

If it were up to me I’d be properly trying now but DFiancé says we only have to wait a little longer.

Ivylilac · 11/04/2025 19:13

@LuellaB absolutely! Welcome to the thread ☺️

How exciting about your wedding and hopefully you won’t have long to wait after the wedding to start trying if your predictions are correct!

Thank you! Yes, fingers crossed. I am very impatient so been trying to use the time productively and learn more about my cycles when not doing wedmin. After being on the pill for 14 years it’s such a change. I’ve also joined a study run by UCL which follows women planning their first pregnancy; the aim is to learn more about pre-eclampsia and metabolic health so my first appointment for that is at the end of the month.

Ivylilac · 11/04/2025 21:10

@LuellaB yeah that’s a good plan, get to know your cycle now so that you’re fully prepared when you start trying. That’s so interesting! Do you have to go for scans or bloods or anything as part of it?

Bloods I think, and a general check at the beginning but I’m not really sure - I will update when I go. I think they give you free pregnancy tests and ovulation kits as well.

mummm2 · 12/04/2025 06:17

So yesterday CB low (circle) today CB high (flashing) glad I didn’t wait to Monday to start testing as it originally said. I may be closer to ovulation than I think.

I agree ladies they are very expensive, but if they will actually help figure it out more then I’m all for it..

@LuellaB welcome ☺️ good idea to get a grip of cycles now! x

I’m only day 6 at the moment and I think my period will finish today, so I might start testing either tomorrow or Monday, not sure when! Probably tomorrow as I’m impatient haha

Hi ladies, also TTC #1 and would be lovely to join you all on here. Like a lot of people we're not telling our friends or family about TTC so can feel a little lonely at times!

We're approaching cycle three, just had AF so going into the window of LH testing tomorrow. Last two months I've tested early after ovulation as couldn't resist and just wanted to know, but think I'll try and wait until AF this time.

Sending baby dust to you all ✨💫

PearOpal · 13/04/2025 05:41

Hi all,
also TTC #1, looking forward to joining this community and seeing how this journey goes for all of us. Currently on CD #8 of cycle two. Not testing or anything just trying to get my bearings amongst the sea of information. DH and I travel a lot and are likely to miss a lot of cycles so I’m anticipating a long wait and trying not to get my hopes up of a quick success story.

Welcome! It really can can’t it! I’m dying to tell my friends, but at the same time I don’t want a loads of questions and pressure that come with it.

I’m also on cycle 3 now and I’ve just done my first ovulation test using the clearblue advanced test and it’s just come back as low fertility for today, so I’ll test again tomorrow. Might’ve been a bit premature testing today, but the leaflet inside said to start on day 7 if your cycles are my length (25-27 days roughly on average). Which tests are you using and how long are your cycles on average? Hopefully cycle 3 is the one for us both!!

Oh I'm also CD 7! How odd we're both same cycle and CD 😂 I've only just started getting to know my cycles and ovulation since around January, as before that had been on the pill or implant for about 15 years. But since being off contraception they've been 26-27 days. I'm using the Premom tests and app which has been relatively easy so far and I like how the app lets you track symptoms easily! How about you?

Yes fingers crossed for us both, keep me updated with how you're getting on 😊

I’ve learned more acronyms and paid more attention to my body in the last few months preparing to start trying then I have in my entire life. Makes me realize my mum might’ve been on to something when she told me to start paying attention to my cycle and how I felt around it when I was young.

I’m right there with you on the post-pill cycle lengths and one day off in the CD. On the bright side this means we can endure the TWW testing temptations together!! Plus it’s nice to have people to chat to. It seems silly now but not telling friends and family but having so many things on your mind is a challenge I hadn’t quite anticipated…

@PearOpal @BrightSide234 Hi ladies 👋🏼 here’s to another month of wild emotions! Looking forward to the company along the way xx

@Ivylilac are you using the easy @ home tests too?

I’m CD10 today and day 2 of flashing smiley on CB advanced. But E@H still low 0.36.

It’s my first month using CB but from reading online the advanced also detects estrogen as well as LH which is why I think E@H doesn’t seem to tie up at the moment… 🤷🏻‍♀️

SilverDrive · 13/04/2025 12:44

Hi all, how’s everyone feeling?

I’ve still not tested 🙈 I’m scared to do it. My BBT has spiked to over 37 the last couple of days and I had cramping yesterday morning but AF hasn’t arrived yet. Due between today and Thursday (my cycle was messed up last month, so not really clear).
I just really can’t see this happening. It’s our first cycle so would be very unlikely. Plus other than a bit of cramping here and there, I have zero symptoms. I just feel like AF is imminent. Which is fine if so, i just want to to arrive if that’s the case!!

I’m also using the easy@home tests - and on CD15 today with LH levels gradually increasing. It all seems a bit pointless as we are not actually trying but I’m trying to see it from the perspective of being scientifically interesting!

@SilverDrive you never know! Heard so many cases of people thinking AF is on its way only to be pregnant. Hopefully you’ll know soon either way
