Anyone else in the early stages of their TTC journey for baby #1?

Hi everyone,

We’re early into our TTC journey and are currently on cycle number 2 for our first baby. I’ve also never been pregnant before.

I’m currently on day 14 of my cycle but my cycles are around 25-27 days on average, so my Flo app predicted I’d ovulate on day 12 based off symptoms of ovulation from previous months which have been quite consistent. We dtd on day 7,8,10 and 11 and haven’t been able to do it again since due to clashing work schedules, mega long days and then being exhausted in our free time as a result, so I have no idea if we’ve done enough this cycle.

Either way, it would be nice to chat to others in the same boat who are also only just starting their TTC journey! :) I told myself this cycle I wouldn’t count down the days or symptom spot like I did last cycle, but it’s hard not to already!

Just had my Day10 ultrasound and she can see a dominant double follical on my left ovary which is good news that I will actually ovulate this month - but weirdly a tonne earlier than my Natural Cycles app predicts based on temps. So that's all a bit strange.

Unforts my blood tests came back and there is some worrying things on there which has got me down a bit but all the good news in this thread has got me feeling a little more hopeful. Trying not to be too down in the dumps.

SilverDrive · 06/05/2025 22:08

@tiutinkerbell hope you’re okay! Have you got answers or plans in place regarding the blood results?
Great news about the dominant follicle! Do you find having the scan has helped?

Im considering booking a fertility scan. Just for reassurance that everything looks okay. I’m on CD20 and haven’t ovulated as of yet. I also haven’t had a high reading yet on my clearblue. Last cycle I got high on CD10 and my peak was CD20. So I’ve no idea what is happening this cycle at all!!

Sorry to hear about your blood tests, never nice to hear something like that. Hope you're doing okay 💖

Interesting about the timings and app predictions, definitely helpful to have had the scan in that case. I've heard a few people say the apps aren't always reliable as think they rely on very regular cycles etc which not all of us have!

tiutinkerbell · 07/05/2025 12:49

@SilverDrive I feel a bit better now that the doctor can see that there is a dominant double follicle in there at the moment. However, it's a hard thing to be told you have diminished ovarian reserve at 34 - I thought I had so much more time and can't help but feel discouraged that I've left it too late. But with my wedding only a month away (!) I can't let the feelings of despair take over!

@BrightSide234 Thank you so much. It is so strange as I am diligent about checking my temp every morning, but the doctor said no way would I ovulate as late as day 21 (which my app predicts) with my follicles measuring as they did yesterday! Just goes to show that the female body cannot be predicted.

ProfessionalOverthinker1 · 07/05/2025 21:04

Looking for some thoughts here…

I’ve been tracking my ovulation since cycle day 3, a bit early, I know, but it’s my first time doing this and the Premom app actually suggested it. I figured there’s nothing to lose, and I might learn something new about my cycle. According to Premom, I’m currently in my fertile window. It originally predicted ovulation for May 11, but today after testing it suddenly shifted and marked ovulation as today.

I didn’t get a chance to test this morning due to an early office start, but I did test this evening and my LH dropped to 0.2. Apparently, yesterday was my peak? That’s where the confusion begins.

To add to the mystery: right after peeing into the test cup, I looked down and saw a huge blob of discharge literally hanging there. I’ve tracked CM before and know what to expect around ovulation, but this was next-level plentiful, super thick, stretchy, like actual slime. I honestly wish I could share a picture, because I’ve never seen anything like it.
So now I’m wondering… was my true LH peak actually yesterday? Could this wild discharge be confirming that ovulation is happening now?

But here’s what’s throwing me off:

  • If I’m ovulating today, and this discharge is (according to Google) textbook fertile CM, shouldn’t my LH still be high today?
  • And also… it’s only cycle day 9. Isn’t that a bit early to ovulate?

Would really appreciate hearing what others think or have experienced I’m learning as I go!

Hey @ProfessionalOverthinker1 :)

How long are your cycles? If they are on the shorter side then CD9 is fine to ovulate.

I can’t go my whole ewcm too much because I get it heavily leading up to ovulation and it varies from day to day. I’ve had peak OPKs after feeling like I dried up, and low OPKs when I’ve had so much discharge. I’d DTD anyway if you can.

You’d get a high OPK or peak OPK before ovulation, so normally around 24hrs before. You’d see a lower OPK on actual ovulation day normally.

You might have had a higher peak in the afternoon as I think levels are higher around lunch time so it could be that you were over 1 at like 2pm and then 0.83 that night too.

Good luck!

PearOpal · 08/05/2025 12:19

@ProfessionalOverthinker1 Totally agree with @Couchtattie that depending on your cycle length CD9 is definitely on the table. I was actually just chatting with a fertility specialists and one of the things she said specifically was that they're finding more and more in recent research that EWCM really is the best way to tell despite all the testing thats available. Her recommendation was to DTD until its gone and a day or so after even if it's not matching with your test results to be on the safe side. This is my first cycle testing as well (CD 8 here) so take that for what it's worth - I'm def ignorant to this still!

ProfessionalOverthinker1 · 08/05/2025 19:34

Thanks @PearOpal and @Couchtattie

My period is always a bit all over the place, this is first time when I'm tracking my cycle to the day.
Sadly no DTD yesterday, didn't do OPK this morning either, just waiting for my OPK results now, it doesn't look too promising, no discharge since that monstrosity of a blob last night lol, so I think I've missed it this month.
I'll keep checking tho, who knows. I shall be better prepared for the next month🤷🏼‍♀️

Couchtattie · 08/05/2025 19:41

That is good to know @PearOpal and gives me hope because I DTD on days with heavy egg white fluid but after negative OPKs I was wondering if it was even worth doing.

@ProfessionalOverthinker1 no problem, my periods have been between 25-32 days since tracking. It’s really annoying!

daisy2025 · 11/05/2025 21:41

@Wiennetta please can I ask what type of magnesium you take and how much? I’m struggling with an 8 day luteal phase and magnesium is something I don’t supplement so might try it

Couchtattie · 12/05/2025 11:37

AF arrived! :(

2Sugars2 · 12/05/2025 11:55

ahh sorry to hear AF is here @Couchtattie it's a kick in the gut kind of feeling isn't it.
I tested this morning, 10dpo and got the whitest of white test strip so I think I will will be joining you shortly. AF due around weds/thurs.

Couchtattie · 12/05/2025 12:12

@2Sugars2 thanks ❤️ think because I had a chemical last month, just feels like heat a lot of success stories after a chemical. Also only had an 8 day LP this month, a 31 day cycle :(

Normally they are 26-29 and I have 9 or 10 LPs. Hoping the chemical just messed me up but I’m starting to think I need to take some vitamins.

Ah sorry to hear about the negative test, it’s just rotten. Feel extra upset this month for some reason. Hope you’re OK x

Hi everyone. Hope ye don’t mind me jumping on here! Just starting TTC and I have learned a bit the last few days from reading this forum! I didn’t realise how much is involved in TTC. It’s a bit of an eye opener! On CD6 so at the end of AF. This is my first natural AF since coming off the pill. My cycles were always regular before the pill so hoping it will be the same now. Good luck to everyone who is trying.

Welcome! we’ve had a few BFPs this month, which has been lovely.

I’ve just had my last ovulation before we actually get to try, so not long now. Looking forward to properly trying. My peak on the easy@home OPKs is still quite low (0.76) but it’s such a marked peak vs other days that I think it must be correct.

AMD93 · 14/05/2025 10:38

Hey everyone, I hope it's OK to jump on this thread. I'm new to mumsnet and seen a few threads about TTC. I'm almost 32, just married and we are going to start TTC number1 when I'm ovulating next which will be next week (according to Flo) on CD2. I'm so excited and nervous! It's been great seeing a lot of BFP's on this thread but I know it's a hard and sometimes frustrating process so I'm trying to prepare myself that it might take some time! Good luck to everyone on this journey and congrats to the new mummys to be!

tiutinkerbell · 14/05/2025 10:46

Hope everyone is doing well! Looks like I haven't ovulated this month :( despite having the double follicle on Day10 scan, I am now Day18 without a positive OPK (I now hate that stupid clearblue test) or rise in temps so it looks like I never actually released an egg. Absolutely gutted to say the least. Just wish my body would get with the program and do what it is supposed to do. Partner went off to get his sperm analysis done today to rule out any issues with him - maybe we will get a small bit of good news there!

SilverDrive · 14/05/2025 11:40

@tiutinkerbell I’ve been the exact same this month, had no positive OPK or BBT rise. I went for a private scan on CD26 and was told I have PCOS. I’ve 18-22 follicles in each ovary that are measuring 7-9mm 😔 I was devastated!!
I had endometriosis and a fibroid removed 12 months ago and there was no mention at all of PCOS. Up until Feb of this year, my cycles have been 28-31 days.
I ovulated last month on CD21 of a 35 day cycle, confirmed with OPK and BBT. So this has completely thrown me!!
Can they get these things wrong? I’ve been super stressed with work this month, so could that have caused the failed ovulation on multiple attempts going off my ovaries? I’m so confused and frustrated.
Have booked a blood test with my GP but the earliest I can get that is 9th June. Considering just paying private so I can get answers quicker.

ProfessionalOverthinker1 · 14/05/2025 23:17

Hi everyone, hope you’re all doing well!

Not much going on at my end. I think I’m currently 6 DPO. I’m planning to test in a few days, though honestly, if I see two lines, I’ll be convinced pigs can fly!

My husband has a daughter from a previous marriage, and he always jokes that he has “super sperm” because his ex got pregnant the very first time they tried. It’s all said in good fun, and I usually just laugh along, but I’d be lying if I said I haven’t caught myself wondering… what if? Can you even imagine? Haha!

On another note, I think I’m going to take a break from using OPKs. They’ve been making me a bit too obsessed, and the constant LH fluctuations are just confusing and, honestly, kind of frustrating. For now, I think I need to just live in blissful unawareness and give my mind a bit of peace.

I’ll still be sticking around and reading everyone’s stories, they really help, and maybe if nothing happens in the next few months, I’ll give OPKs another try. But for now, I’m stepping back a bit and trying to take things as they come.

Sending love and baby dust to anyone else in the TWW let’s see what the next few days bring!

tiutinkerbell · 16/05/2025 10:08

So tracking my temps, looks like I may have ovulated CD18/19 - I have progesterone to take but I am anxious to take it with my wedding coming up start of June. I’m just worried it might delay my period or make me feel off in the lead-up — and I really want to feel like myself that week. So hard to know what is the right thing to do, especially as can't even seem to really confirm my silly ovulation. Has anyone take progesterone before for a short LP?

Partners SA came back all OK, apart from raised white blood cells meaning he might have some sort of infection/inflammation so off to the doctor to get some antibiotics to sort that out!

LuellaB · 24/05/2025 10:57

How is everyone doing? I’m waiting for AF to start either today or tomorrow. Getting close to wedding now! It’s come around so quickly.

A2025 · 24/05/2025 13:25

@LuellaB 2DPO here! First cycle trying. Learning so much from this forum. Oh wow, you must be getting so excited for your wedding! Enjoy the build up. The time will fly, especially the wedding day itself. It goes way too quick!

Exciting times for you, how are you feeling about the wedding? Agree with @A2025 that the day goes far too quick!

Good luck @A2025, have you been ovulation testing or are you seeing how it goes without first?

I'm approaching seven weeks now, very fatigued and some nausea but no sickness. Still feeling anxious about it all so booked an eight week scan, but think I'll be anxious until 12 weeks!

A2025 · 24/05/2025 15:22

@BrightSide234 Thank you.☺️ Yes, I have been ovulation testing. It has been useful. I wouldn’t have had a clue when I’d have had my fertile window without it as I only came off the pill in early April.

Wishing you all the best with your pregnancy. You’re right to book an early scan if you’re anxious.

LuellaB · 25/05/2025 09:36

Thanks @BrightSide234 @A2025! I’m excited about the wedding now, can’t quite believe it’s just around the corner. Also just started AF and my apps are predicting ovulation the day after the wedding 😂

hope it’s all going ok for you @BrightSide234 - hopefully the scan will provide reassurance.
